This may be a lil gross, so if you don't plan on switching to organic milk then you may not want to know this. If you're lactose intolerant yay for you!! SO, it's been known for awhile that farmers give their milking cows medicine that alters their system to produce more milk. (more milk faster= more $ faster) What most people dont know is that these meds commonly cause infections in the udders. The infections cause puss to seep into the milk that comes out of the udders. Yes, I said puss. Yes, it's in your milk. In order to make the milk drinkable for humans they pump it up with antibiotics. Good idea? Nope. If you drink this milk everyday for over 2 months (that includes milk in coffe or cereal or whatever) you will build up immunities to all antibiotics. Therefore the milk you're drinking to keep your bones strong is actually allowing you to become sick and remain sick longer.

I don't distrust you or anything, but could you find an article that I could read about this topic? This sounds to me like another scare produced by the media over-playing something to boost ratings. It's like when they told us that sunscreen would cause us to go blind or that grapes contained cyanide.

Well it's hard to find it online. I know because I went to Blue Bell's farm for their milking cows and the person working there told me that. But here's one site just on mass produced milk. And another taking it a step further and talking about raw foods. And here's another called realmilk.com. Oh yay! I found a good reference at organicconsumers.org!

I'm sure a bit of pus in the milk will do no harm. There'll be all sorts of nasties lurking around in milk. There are more things living on a human body than the entire human population, and more bacteria is transferred in a handshake compared to a kiss.
But mik's pasteurised, so all the nasties are killed. And, if this is the case, then I've been alive 17 years and never got ill of milk... my sisters, parents and grandparents have never been ill off milk.
No doubt this is true, but there are things such as pasteurisation and quality control which will help to counter this. So the minority of reported cases will be dealt with very quickly. If a big business suddenly finds itself allied with a farm where this has taken place, the business will lose money, and make damned sure something's done about it. I sit back, safe knowing there are methods to keep our lovely cow breast juice clean and fresh - and won't be losing my milk 'tache yet xp

But then you don't get the natural ingredients in milk that we can't reproduce. All I'm trying to say is organic milk is better for you for lots of reasons! 3nodding

Yeah there are some foods where they add vitamins and it becomes better than the natural version but those are the exception rather than the rule.

Agree about organic being far more better for you than mass-produced milk, but I was saying that certain quality controls are in place to make sure we don't die from drinking the stuff. The price equation also comes into it too. Mass-produced milk is oviously much much more cheaper to buy than the organic milk. Which is still going to convince a lot of people to buy the cheaper product.
