It had been way too easy for Eriol to convince his "sisters" to look after Viviana for a while. So easy that he wondered why he hadn't done it sooner, and resolved to do it more. Now he had a whole day to himself. No worrying about diaper changes or crying or baby carriers.
The first thing Eriol did was catch a movie. He didn't even know what it was. Something with gratuitous violence, nudity, and a few new curse words to learn. Something he would never have been able to see with his family. It wasn't the movie that was enjoyable though, but the fact that he was able to see it. He called the shots.
Once the movie let out however, the teen was out of ideas. It was too early to go home, but all the ideas that had once filled his head were gone. Eriol checked his watch, then his pocket. He still had some money left, so with nothing better to do he headed across the street to the local coffee shop. Maybe he would think of something over a cup of joe.

"In the shadows of tall buildings Of fallen angels on the ceilings Oily feathers in bronze and concrete Faded colors, pieces left incomplete The line moves slowly past the electric fence Across the borders between continents
In the cathedrals of New York and Rome There is a feeling that you should just go home And spend a lifetime finding out just where that is.."
Dare stands on stage by himself, singing to his own guitar music. Not many of the coffee house's patrons seem interested in his little song, but by closing his eyes, he can pretend otherwise. Pick to strings, his hand moves unnaturally fast, yet the music doesn't at all suffer. It comes very naturally to him.
Leaning into the microphone, eyes squeezed shut on the unattentive audience, Dare presses on:
"In the shadows of tall buildings The architecture is slowly peeling Marble statues and glass dividers Someone is watching all of the outsiders The line moves slowly through the numbered gate Past the mosaic of the head of state.."

At first Eriol didn't pay much attention to the entertainment. His senses were still dulled by the movie, so he went through the ritual of finding a seat and ordering an expresso without much thought. The waitress was attractive enough, but not someone he wanted to give his phone number to, so he relaxed and waited for the coffee to come.
"In the shadows of tall buildings The architecture is slowly peeling Marble statues and glass dividers Someone is watching all of the outsiders The line moves slowly through the numbered gate Past the mosaic of the head of state.."
It wasn't a familiar song. Eriol's tastes in music were rather eclectic, like his tastes in most things. If the song was at all popular then it was no surprise he hadn't heard it before, and if it was obscure, all the more reason for its newness. The singer wasn't bad. Of course, Eriol would have prefered a shapely female with a gorgeous voice, but the guy up there wasn't half bad. It made Eri wonder just what went into getting a job at one of these joints.
Leaning back, he waited for the song to end. Maybe the next one would be something he knew.
