Years seem to have gone by.
No, disappeared.
The once lively bar filled with friendly chatter between friends, the hot aromas of Kinomi's homemade meals, and the constant clinking of ice to glass from glass to table... It seemed like such a distant memory. Memories that felt about as solid as cobwebs and twice as sticky. Good memories of seeking warm shelter here had refused to let go, and now she found herself back on the worn door step of this place.
But as she edged her way into the darkening, unkempt gloom, she almost stumbled over a fallen beer bottle. Catching herself in time, she looked down and saw the faint light glittering dimly off the dusty broken glass that littered the ground.
What on earth???
It was not like this the last time she was here. Not at all. What had happened? A bar fight between bar mates? Impossible!
But it looked plausible. Among scattered mementos and dusty debris, there were upturned tables and chairs... the floor groaning where it used to not even squeak.
She sat down hard, unable to even go further inside. The fading light behind her cast a long, ominous shadow off her small, sunken frame.
Time had not been kind to this place. She couldn't help but wonder - had it been kind to her fellow bar mates?
Shoulders straightening again, she balled her fists and cranked her sleeves up her elbows, and strolled inside. Digging around in the janitor's closet revealed some long forgotten cleaning equipment. Dragging a bucket and mop over to the sink, she waited for the tap water to choke up brown water and run clean again.
As she slapped the soaked mop head against the dirty floor, she made herself a promise to visit a bit more often - hopefully draw a few friends this way to liven it up again.
But also - find out what incident had last transpired here before everything was cast into darkness.
She sneezed. And sneezed.
Each sneeze growing louder, until she sneezed so hard, the very floor boards seemed to rattle. Sniffling, she continued sending up a cloud of dust into the air wherever she stepped.
So before she could go chasing shadows, it looked like she'd be chasing dust bunnies first. Someone had to start making it look less like a giant spider had crawled in here and died at least..

How long had it been? She couldn't have guessed. Years, probably. It used to be she'd pass by, look around for any sign someone had come through, then wander off again, but she hadn't done so in... Well, however long it had been.
She'd given up, she supposed. Stopped getting her hopes up, only to be disappointed every time. For whatever reason, though, he feet led her down the old path, still familiar, but overgrown from disuse. It looked like someone had come through recently, judging by how the plants were moved in places toward where she was going, but that could have easily been a large animal of some sort. Still, a twinge of optimistic possibility tugged at her mind.
The tavern came into sight soon after, a sad sight compared to its former warmth and glory. Regardless, she headed toward it. Just to look around, she told herself. No one's there. No one's ever there. Kill the hope now before it becomes more disappointment. As she reached the door, though, she swore she heard water running inside. Sure her ears were just tricking her, she nudged the door only wide enough to peek inside.
The sneezing made her jump and squeak in surprise, a hand quickly clapping over her mouth. Swallowing, she cleared her throat and finally came inside, a sheepish look on her face. "Excuse me, but would you like some help?" She was already reaching for the nearest fallen chair, pulling it upright.
