THIS POST/THREAD WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF THE SERIES FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST AND THE MOVIE. DO NOT READ ON IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO SPOIL YOUR VIRGIN MINDS.
A friend of mine from school and I are writing a Joint-Effort Fanfiction, based off a half-written Fullmetal Alchemist story I had going. We've been working on this for the larger part of this schoolyear, and since the year is coming to a close rapidly, we both decided that we needed a place to continue this if we ever had any intention of getting it finished. Even as it stands, we haven't even barely gotten into the bulk of the story.
The basis of this story began with myself creating a character named Melissa Kauffman from a drawing. Sometime in my Junior year I had drawn a picture of a young redhaired girl in my art class instead of doing the project I was supposed to be. Dorkishly, I named her Melissa after the Porno Graffitti song and first opening theme of Fullmetal Alchemist. I have a wretched tendency of coming up with half-baked stories for all the original characters I create in drawing... Well, Melissa is one of the few that actually survived passed the first drawing. She grew to become an eight-year-old German girl living in Munich in the early 1920's. I later decided that she was the daughter of a neighbor of Alfons Heiderich, which allowed her to become tied in with the main plot of the movie. As I continued this brainstorm, I sort of infiltrated the plotline of said movie, manipulating my own character as well as others. I was highly unimpressed with the movie as a whole, and therefore didn't take much into consideration that I was throwing things in there that may very well have conflicted with what actually went on. I have yet to see the movie subtitled -- I don't honestly care to know what was going on anymore than I can from reading summaries and watching it in Japanese with my small understanding.
As my story was occurring, there were many holes in the plot and many things I had yet to work out, by cause of school and the like. I decided to take a stab at making this story Joint-Effort with a friend from school -- she and a mutual friend of ours had been attempting something similar the previous year -- and the story has had many changes.
Ely created a character named Alidia, who is very much like the anime version of Wrath. She was spat out of the Gate into Munich and Edward found his way to her -- and has managed to "tame" her, for lack of a better word. The situation in the anime with Wrath made it appear that he did not need the red stones to survive, so we took that thought and ran with it. Alidia was disguised as a human and Edward took her in, feeling the need to 'protect' her from being further ... homunculus-ified, if you will. I know, this sounds rather Mary-Sue-ish. But allow me to assure you, the relationship between Edward and Alidia is purely friendship, with an occasional sibling-like bantering going on. They coexist rather like roommates, and Alidia has a rather frequent tendency to act like a younger sister. Many things in the world to the other side of the Gate don't make sense to her, much as I'm sure they didn't make a whole lot of sense to Edward when he first got there. He's sort of helping her along as Hohenheim did for him.
As the end of the series took place in 1916, and the start of the movie had hopped forward until 1923, Ely and I chose to start our fiction in 1918, and give a little of our own backstory as to what occurred in the years between Edward's landing in Europe and his meeting off and rooming with Alfons Heiderich. I am fully aware that by pitting Edward with Alidia to take care of, I am altering the story a lot by having her live with them as well. That may end up changing, as we haven't actually gotten to that section of the story yet. Where we left off was just before Edward was to meet Alfons, which we decided occurred at a festival. In a dorkier impulse of mine, having known that Hohenheim travelled possibly before and most definately after Edward and Alphonse's upbringing, I chose to say that prior to the boy's coming into the world, Hohenheim had travelled to our side of the Gate and to that time's equivalent of Japan. Thusly, I chose to say he had Japanese garment for he and Trisha. In all mannerisms of dorkyness, I chose to have Edward and Alidia wear these yukata to the festival. (Because, hey. I wanted to draw it.) The story will more than likely continue at a snail's pace for a while.
To make this already-too-long post no longer than it has to be, I figured that I could utilize my own Guild to Ely and I's advantage. We will be sketching out more of the Joint Fiction here, and will eventually compile it into story-form, hopefully. Again, this thread is not open for outsider comment or play. I don't say that to be rude or anything of the sort, I say that simply because we don't need anyone else involved, and we certainly need no more than two original characters, which we have.
For the time being, this story has been working out well in roleplay-format. Ely controls her own character, and thus far I have controlled everyone else. Pardon the fact that we are picking this up in media res, but we're still working on it. It's not intended for others, yet. >>;
All that said, onward!
