Where's a chick that will scream into the mic, swig a bottle of beer, yell at the crowd, throw her cigarette at the crowd, maybe even pee on the crowd? Where's a bruised, bawdy banshee that beats the crap out of you while she ******** you senseless after the show and then steals your wallet, goes to your apartment and ******** your girlfriend? Where's a hotel-trashing, cop-slapping terror who crashes her car into a tree because she had three square meals of quaaludes?

Their frightened by the power of a public image and the influence of fans. Their scared of such a prude society. They decided pop was safer.

I disagree.
I think that because the society we live in has its own image of women.(the image goes like this: women are supposed to stay home and love their husbands and NEVER say their opinion. Yes, this is maybe a bit harsh angle.)
So my point is that the main key to publicity and stuff is media. And because this kind of "image of women" media doesn't want to disagree from the power of the general line. (there are some exceptions.)
So media kind of ignores womens who do stuff like that.

But the respect and interest has rised from the past few years.
Nowdays people respect women who dare to "step up" and say their opinion.

i think that since there are no mainstream rocker chicks (with the exception of say joan jett) as role models girls really don't even think they can go there. the idea of growing up to be a guitarist in a band isn't even there. what girls today have are people like linsey lohan and paris hilton and some other chicks who put out the rocker image because it sells but are really just pop singers.

riot grrrl isn't mainstream, it never was, and it will never be popular. that doesn't mean it's not more meaningful than other music, it just means that most people will never listen to it because it wasn't a big enough revolution to affect many people's lives. and let's face it, riot grrrl is a subgenre of punk, and punk is like the dregs of modern music. you can get away with playing shitty music if you have charisma or a message, this is how riot grrrl survived underground. it wasn't because women started playing instruments like real musicians, they didn't, it was because they had the message: feminism.

although riot grrrl inspires many, like those reading this message board, it will never be the revolution our riot grrrl fore-mothers wanted untill women start being musicians rather than sex objects. we have to play better than the best male musicians in the business. i think this is the best way possible for women to infiltrate the mainstream thus become the role-models for girls to come. and maybe one day people won't care if you're male or female as long as you can play well.
