The afternoon had crept upon Aldo without him realizing it. Earlier that morning, still having free time to himself, the professor had found a quiet place to conduct his ongoing experiments. The veranda he had chosen had so far been left alone by the staff and the students, giving him ample space and quiet to conduct his research. With the number of strange phenomena caused by such a wide variety of people and powers in one place, it led him to believe that it might have an ongoing effect on weather in the area.
Air gathered energy as well as many of the other elements, and with so many strange and wondrous powers gathered in one area, he had been playing with the idea that it might affect localized weather patterns he had seen during the war. He and his brother Daniel had written extensively on the subject in letters to each other, especially with the use of his brother and the other men of his unit manipulating air currents for their own gain. He himself had been better able to determine enemy positions when there was a strong change in current.
While the school may not have been a battleground per say, there was a great deal of energy here, and he had taken it upon himself to study the patterns that gave away the approach of those around him. It came relatively easy given the range of energy that others gave off here. Today, however, he had spent the better part of his time focused up rather than out. It took a great deal of focus to keep track of the currents hundreds of feet above the school and its grounds. His eyes were closed, his senses aimed upwards, and his reading casually jotted in a leatherbound book at his feet. Sitting cross legged on the ground he almost seemed to be meditating, which was not far from the truth.
It was this that seemed to have distracted him enough to not detect the presence of others coming down the corridor to his little place of calm.

Khai used to be a general in the war. He wasn't sure if people forgot that or didn't care. Not that he was one for boasting about his title in the first place but sometimes he felt outright insulted. The only person that he would allow such things from was his spouse, but he knew that Varsha would never. Not in a serious manner anyway. Their son, well, he didn't know any better. Khai was regretting his lack of exercise routine right now. For a toddler, and one who had just recently mastered the art of running away from his father, he was surprisingly fast. " Gandria be careful!" he was managing to keep up with him but was taking a hit on the endurance department. He had accidentally bumped into a student, and when he turned his head slightly to apologize the two-year-old decided this was the best time to turn. And into a hall that was not unoccupied.
Thankfully Khai spotted his movement and after a hasty apology he took off again hoping to keep up and stop him from bumping into anyone. This was, of course, exactly what happened, however. He spotted the blonde man sitting on the floor, vaguely recognizing him as a professor as well. " Gandria--" his voice came a moment too late as the little boy ran full force into the man's back. Khai inhaled sharply as the toddler fell back and landed on his butt before looking up at his father. The tears threatened to begin and before they could all out happen, he scooped up the toddler, holding him in his arms. " It's okay, you're fine." he wasn't hurt, just surprised. Khai's green eyes looked over towards Aldo as he smiled apologetically. " Our apologies. As you can see, he has a mind of his own most of the time." the child's tears had dried up, never really fully falling despite how close he had come. " It's Aldo, right? I don't know if I've actually introduced myself. I'm Khai." adjusting his grip on his son, he forced the words from his mouth despite almost wanting to just keep going on his way. He knew that he'd have to socialize eventually, and another professor was a better option than one of the many students that liked and knew how to get under his skin. The sudden impact into his back startled the sitting professor, and a breath expelled Oomf. Startled as his senses came back down to his surroundings, he slid his legs out from his position and pulled up into a kneel, using his hands for support. Standing slowly, he dusted off his legs and came to his full height. Standing there holding the toddler in his arms was Mr. Tahan, whom he believed taught the art of war to students. Although Alden highly disapproved of the class and its education on a personal level, he understood its necessity. If only better decisions had been made, war could have been avoided. Perhaps Khai could be the one to teach this generation better methods to avoid it. No doubt better than him with teaching them about weather patterns. Putting his hand out, Aldo replied, “A pleasure Khai.” Glancing to the young boy he smiled and nodded, following with “Hello there little fellow. Give your papa a run for his money I see?”Aldo had no kids of his own, although he did have a niece and a nephew through his brother. They were going on three now he believed, and had not had an opportunity to visit them yet. I caused his mind to wander for a moment as he thought about if they were running about his home and causing him and his darling wife no end of excitement. “What is the young lad’s name Khai?”

Khai was grateful that the man wasn't as easily angered as some of the others around the school. He worried about his wife and child to no end and the different personalities certainly didn't help. He knew that there were all kinds and he couldn't protect them all the time, but at the least Gandria had bumped into someone that was kinder than some others. He took the others lead and extended his hand, giving the other man's a firm shake. " Likewise." he allowed a bit more warmth to spill into his words that time, a small smile on his lips. the toddler in his arms had gotten over the shock factor of running headfirst into someone and now was watching his father talk to the new person. His dark eyes looked over to Aldo and instead of an actual answer he laughed, leaning his head over onto Khai's shoulder. It was clear that he was having fun with running away from his father. Khai sighed, the toddler kept both of them busy but he wouldn't have it any other way.
At the follow up question he looked over to the boy in his arms, gently brushing his thumb along his cheek. " Gandria. He takes more after his mother when it comes to energy and the enjoyment of making me try and catch him." the thought of his wife made a genuine smile flicker across his face and he realized another fact before lifting his head up and letting the toddler grab his hand and hold onto it. " Perhaps you have met her. She's the music teacher, Varsha." she was likely better known than he was, and honestly, he was okay with that. The young child's reaction warmed Aldo’s heart. The not so fragile little person’s sense of humor was hard to resist. He missed that innocence himself, but did his best to hold onto it everyday as best he could. “Well it's a pleasure to meet you, Gandria,” he said to the toddler warmly. With a firm shake of Kahi’s hand, he released and listened as he asked if he had happened to meet his wife. “I cannot say I have had the pleasure,” he started. His interaction with staff had so far been rather limited he was afraid to admit. He had not even been aware that Kahi was married and had a child. Then again with all the staff, faculty, and students, it was hard to keep track unless he interacted with them relatively frequently. Admittedly it was his own fault. He was not inherently xenophobic. To him, a person was simply a person, but old habits died hard. He was civil to everyone but had been more open with the students than the teachers “Music you say? I feel like there must be quite the story there somewhere if she tried so hard for you to catch her. I must admit I am a little jealous, I hadn't much time for courtship before my appointment here, and to say the least, have not devoted much time towards it since my arrival.”It was rather an interesting thought. With all the nobles here, he had left such ideas far from his mind, not wishing to be involved any further in political struggles. Relations had been a thing from before the war that had vanished from his life. While his brother had succeeded, an unmarried officer just wouldn't have done. However, a single teacher was less looked down upon. He wondered if he really wanted to be married, but he supposed time would tell on that.
