Getting the camp together, that had been the hardest part of getting the dwarves to survive outside the cave. With their homes in ruins and the threat of more shakes, the council had agreed to stay out and to work to build their way back in... once the shaking was confirmed over. Now, the dwarves were learning how to work with the sun, used to such a dim atmosphere in the caves it was unusual for them to have such a bright world.

Sirium had been elected interim leader, with two other dwarves at his side. He had chosen rather quickly and easily to appoint Bariviess and Ulfric to aide him. Together the three of them had set up hunting parties, a medical tent where the wounded were treated, a place to burn the dead to prevent them from rising again, and lastly a plan to get them back into the mountain.

Sirium looked around having left his daughter with a group of dwarves now appointed the caregivers to the children so their parents could work on whatever they needed. He moved through the camp, checking the wounded , and ensuring the hunters were doing their jobs to keep the company well fed. Once he finished, he found himself at the entrance to the caves, drawing in a long breath before releasing it. How did he end up like this? He was unsure but though he often doubted himself obviously there were many who thought him capable.

He was foolish for choosing her as an aide, but she had not bothered with arguing with him as it might be seen as weakness or false modesty and would definitely take up time that could be spent doing important things. The others listened to her when she gave orders, but it was always with a look of disgust or fear. Not that she gave orders often, she was still as solitary as she could be and spoke very rarely, but somehow a bunch of people who had never cared for her were now her responsibility. The only time she joined the group was when some of the bodies were burned, and those some were the kids including her son’s intended. Perhaps that would convince people she was not a monster. Doubtful. Her youngest two, though only seven and eight years, were assigned to be caregivers, even though some of the children they took care of were older than them. The eldest of her children was a huntress, though her quarry was still on the smaller end as she was not yet an adult. This morning Bariviess had left camp before dawn not only to avoid people, but also so she could take down some real game before the bumbling hunters came in and scared everything away. That and Sirium would probably want her to stick around and help on the plans to get back into the cave. Even though she was no miner, her husband had been a geological genius, and she had always paid close attention when he would explain things to her. He would always get so excited, and she was so proud…Now was not the time for sentimentality. He was long gone but the lessons he had taught her would help others survive.

Just as it was nearing noon, a large shape made its way towards the camp. People gathered to watch this monstrosity approach, some even drawing weapons just in case, but as it came closer into view, fear shifted to awe as they watched the lone huntress carry a full-grown moose on her back. Once at the camp, she would drop the moose before the hunters. ”This should feed us for a few days. Get everything you can out of it.” Before they could ask why she wasn’t going to do it herself, she wandered off towards the mountain, out of the camp’s eyesight.

Ulfric Ironhammer - Fyreslayer
With: - Mood: Serious - Wearing: Furs

The Dwarven male didn’t care that he wasn’t the leader, he didn’t want it but when asked to advise and aid his friend how could Ulfric turn it down. Temporary forges were set up under his eye and tools for digging into their home were being fashioned. "If the man king has an issue he can take it up with the Gods. We'll return when we can." The forge master would speak when asked about their deal, which seemed like a common answer at this rate for him. Hands on his belt he'd pace around the forge, working late nights, inspecting in the day, and napping when Sirium told him to rest.

But with the days passing and noon just hitting Ulfric heard weapons drawn as the hide of a moose was laid before the fires. "Well Bariviess, showing off your hunting prowess. A beautiful beast for sure." Walking over he'd inspect the moose, nodding a little. "Antlers look intact, could use them to forge bone clubs or handles if so desired." Turning the forges he'd give a huff. "Rock for brains! Pull the iron out before it sparks!" Watching as a young dwarf looked startled at the of metal. "We lost too many craftsmen when the mountain shook. Some of these young bloods still lookin for some Gal before even mastering basic craft."

It was an efficient system, and they had been making great progress with their toss, crush, stack method to secure the sides of the road. However, it suddenly came to a halt as Margolias and Surtr noticed something. Moments later, all the golems had stopped and begun looking at something. Confused, Aesir made his way up through the grouping to peer through the unfinished part of the wall that wasn't obscuring his view. Ahead and slightly off from the road, there was a large encampment of some kind, and from what Aesir could see, the occupants appeared to be dwarven in nature. "Strange... I thought that dwarves didn't usually have settlements on the surface. Well, I guess we should go talk to them. Come to a stopping place you guys then leave an opening so we can walk back up onto the road after we do, okay?" The Six golems nodded and quickly went to work, while Aesir weaved his way between the multiple tons of living rock to make his way off the road and into the snow as looked out towards the encampment, simply having a seat and waiting for a few moments while his Golems worked towards a stopping place.

The golemancer asked Surtr, Ymir, Dabooru, and Jotunn to stay behind on the road while he, Margolias, and Alsius made their way down the snowbank towards the encampment. Upon getting within about a hundred yards of the camp, Aesir stopped and waved a hand towards the dwarves at guard posts. "Hello there! Are you all alright?" He called out. He wouldn't simply walk up to the camp, that was a good way to get riddled with arrows or stabbed repeatedly. And he also didn't want to appear as an attacker, which was an easy assumption that could be made based on his accompaniment, this was why he had only brought two instead of all six golems.

Sirium had been standing near the entrance of the encampment, letting the wind clear his head. He had his eyes closed as he relaxed and soon heard movement. Opening his eyes, he watched the golems as they worked, his brows pulled together in confusion. He looked at the guards then back at the golems, wondering if they were all seeing the same thing. His gaze finally rested on a man between the creatures as he stepped forward. They were asked if they were alright and Sirium nodded. "As alright as we could be after being forced from our home" He called, crossing his arms. "Who might you be?" he asked, curious as he waited for the man to speak. "And why are you here?" This man didn't look like he had ill intent but as Sirium had learn many times about many things, looks could be deceiving.

He then stepped forward a few paces. "It isn't often we get visitors out here" he continued, "And after the earth shake, we're all a little shaken. So apologies if we come off a bit hostile"

I'm from Bormiel, and I came here because a merchant friend of mine said that the dwarves of Lynnia peak might have Volcanic Glass for sale. I was looking to purchase some for my experiments in Golemancy when I found the rocks had blocked off the road to the peak. So I set my golems to start cleaning up the road to the peak." Aesir gestured behind him towards the four golems peeking towards the camp from the road, each curious and confused by the dwarven people occupying the camp. Meanwhile, Margolias getting a bit distracted by a butterfly before Alsius reached over and flicked him in the forehead to get his attention back on the situation. When the dwarf apologized for any inferred hostility. "I can fully understand that sentiment. Especially with the kind of company I tend to keep around." He looked up to the golems who both quickly went from glaring at each other in irritation to standing solidly at attention... for about two seconds before Margolias gave a child-like wave of greeting to Sirium. Alsius elbowed his fellow golem, and Margolias retaliated by straight-up punching Alsius in his granite face. This immediately resulted in the two golems going after each other while Aesir stood there burying his face in his hands. "Could you both please stop? This is neither the time nor place." The two were still going at it and Aesir groaned before taking the shovel off his back and hitting both golems in the legs. Immediately both recoiled and grabbed at their stricken legs, falling to a seated position. "Knock it off blockheads!" Both golems were alarmed at their boss's exclamation before getting back to their feet and getting into their stances at attention. Aesir sighed and looked back to Sirium as he put his shovel away. A young dwarf had ran and tugged at Ulfric's arm. "What is it boy?" With a gesture the dwarf would make his way to the camp entrance. His mythical axe in hand, the glow from its lava visible. "Golems... could chop them down." It was talk to simply seem tough to the unexpected guest. "So who's our knife eared guest? Can't say it’s a welcomed visit." The forge master would to the leader before spitting at his own feet. "I guess we’re being somewhat pleasant?" Though a dwarf Ulfric did stand slightly taller then many of the others who were encircled for this meeting. He'd walk forward, pacing around the elf and the golems. He didn’t like what he saw, but his opinions on outsiders weren’t a secret. "He smells of our home..." Eyeing the elf he’s then eye the golems. "You two aren’t his only ones are you..." Returning to his friends he'd fold his arms. Going to whisper in Sirium's ear and saying; "I wouldn’t trust him, but I don’t trust anyone who isn’t a Dwarf. But if he has more of those, and I bet my axe he does, we could use them to possibly reclaim our home."

Bariviess had just finished binding her shoulder when a younger dwarf came by, and without paying her a bit of mind, told her that she was wanted by Sirium just outside the camp and to not keep him waiting. Fortunately she had already treated all of the other bruises and cuts before shoving her shoulder back into socket and binding it up. Something to numb the pain would have been nice, but it would seem she did not have the luxury of time to find any such herbs, so without further ado she gingerly put her shirt back on over the bindings and headed back towards the encampment. Ulfric was already gone, which only suggested to her that she had been summoned for a matter besides just hunting and/or food management, or at least that wasn't all that was on the docket for today. Her son pointed her in the direction the others had gone, knowing most others would not intuitively know what she was asking and she would not wish to openly ask where Sirium and Ulfric were. She spotted them only a few dozen paces from the camp, where a few guards stood tensely at attention. Though dwarves could be harder to read than animals, but Ulfric's body language was closed and guarded whilst Sirium seemed a touch more open but still wary. Now somewhat curious, she strode over to them and looked where their eyes were focused. There was a rather pale...individual with two stone creatures behind him like guards, and several more of the creatures down below clearing away debris. Why she was needed for this was beyond her, but she would watch and listen.

I believe it worth a try to make friends with him. His golems work for us and we give him some glass once we can make some." He explained before looking as Bariviess joined them. He hadn't expected her to come as she preferred not to be part of these situations but she was there at his request. "If we were to say we can get ahole of the glass in which you seek, will you aide us in getting back into the mountain so we can rebuild our lives?" he asked the elf, his arms remaining crossed as he turned his attention back to him.

Still, Aesir turned to what appeared to be the leading Dwarf of the group. "Originally I heard about Lynnia Peak through a trusted merchant who informed me that while he had no means to access Volcanic glass, it was possible that your people did. As soon as I had my place properly locked up. I gathered the heads of my, at the time, four golems. And set out from Bormiel. it took several days journey to get to the nearest port city, and as we were at sea at the time, My assumption would be that the quake simply appeared to us as rough waves, rather than something genuinely concerning. As for why I want the volcanic glass..." He looked up to Margolias who took a knee and leaned down to be at the same level as Aesir. The Golemancer then simply plucked the golem's head from his body as it sat there rigid like a statue. He held the head forward so Sirium could get a clear look at it."To produce a golem. You have to use a minimum of two materials. One for the body, and one for the eyes. The more pure and natural a material is for the eyes, the better. Previously, I've only been able to work with white Quartz to produce my golems. Unfortunately, they are quite stupid. My belief is that, due to the density and impurities in quartz, the energies of life and intelligence that I breathe into golems to give them life are diluted. As a result, while their bodies possess impressive strength, their mind are like those of very young children. In my testing, I've come to find that relatively speaking, Volcanic glass should be far better suited to this task than quartz, and as such should serve as a significantly more capable medium for imbuing that energy into my golems." He then set down Margolias' head, and it rolled around in the snow, behind the headless stone body, up the arched back, and then coming to rest between the shoulders. The body then shook and Margolias rose back to his full height.

tab Shortly after Aesir was asked if he'd be willing to help. The elf paused a moment and scratched his head. Before nodding. "However" He said "I plan to pay fair price for the volcanic glass... if you'd prefer there be an arrangement of some kind for my assistance regarding the rebuilding process. Then would it be too much to ask for information on more intricate stone-carving techniques? I have some skill thanks to my endeavors in golemancy but... Due to my lack of skill in the endeavor, I haven't exactly been able to give my golems the ability to speak. A cavity is required like that of those in an organic throat in order for them to speak, and I am incapable of carving such at present." He gestured to Alsius, who produced a low tectonic rumbling sound from his torso that sounded and felt like the shifting of great boulders. It was the only way the golems could currently communicate. Around this time he turned around and whistled. Jotunn, Dabooru, Surtr, and Ymir all descending down the slope from the road, walking over to join their comrades beside Aesir. "These are all the golems currently at my disposal to help out. Margolias, Alsius, Surtr, Ymir, Jotunn, and Dabooru" He pointed to each golem as he said their names, each one had a head and general body shape that expressed itself differently in both stature, body language, and physical form... at least beyond the fact they were all still made of granite. "If I can find proper stones to serve as the framework for bodies then I have enough quartz to serve as eyes for-" he paused and checked his satchel, clearly doing a quick count. "-At least another six. beyond that I'd need to find another medium for the eyes." He was doing his best to be upfront and clear. His merchant friend had told him that was a good way to start business agreements with people. Aesir didn't know the merchant just told him this in an attempt to get him to be more trusting, but still. Aesir believed him and stood by those words.

Ulfric Ironhammer - Fyreslayer
With: - Mood: Serious - Wearing: Furs

Ulfric would listen to the Elf's words as well as Sirium's. He didn’t trust outsiders and when more golems were now visible his grip tightened around his axe. "I ******** knew it." They may not have been ambushed by the large things but that didn’t change the fact that there are more. "You know I’ll follow your plan but seeing more moving boulders changes things." It was both good and bad as golems had gone wrong before but their strength could make claiming home easier. "Whatever you decide I’ll follow, but I’d keep an eye on him with the fact we got more than two boulders to deal with."

Sirium listened to the newcomer and turned as Ulfric stated to keep him eye on the man. "He's offered to help and to pay full price Ulfric. I think we should give him a chance to live up to his word." He explained before looking at the man. He listened as he explained about the golems and how they worked. HE understood. The man was a curious one, wanting to learn more and more with time. Nodding, Sirium cleared his throat. "My friend, we will gladly accept the help. As long as your... friends can refrain from breaking more than they break" he spoke louder and nodded to the creatures as two began to argue once more. "As for where you'll be staying, we have a few empty tents and once we are back to building within the mountain, we can always get you better... living conditions. Though it may take us some time before we can get back to work. I'd estimate a minimum of two months" he explained, knowing how the dwarves tended to work but not how they would work under circumstances like this. He knew they all felt exposed out there and many wanted to get back home as soon as possible.

"Unless there is more you would like to discuss in detail, I believe we have an accord then." He raised a hand to Margolias, whose head once more detached as it rolled over to the elf's feet.. Aesir then picked up the head and held it in his arms like one might hold a parcel. "To what task should I assign my golems at this time? I can have them continue as they were before, clearing the road to the city and using the debris to build barriers to prevent further shifts of snow, and otherwise setting aside materials that could be used to construct more golems. Or I can set them to work on a more important and pressing task of your preference?" With the prospect of advancing his research seemingly so close at hand, Aesir was quite excited to get things moving, he just needed to hear the dwarven leader's instructions so that he could provide them to the force of golems he had managed to amass during his climb here.
