Her ears rang. She was half crouched, hands pressed firmly against her ears and eyes squeezed shut as the woman below keened. She thought for sure the large glass window would shatter from the sound, but it didn't. Slowly, she pulled her hands away as she became aware of the absence of the noise. It had sense been replaced by ragged breathing. Nimm took a shaky breath, swallowing hard before going to the window and looking down. The woman was struggling against her bonds, a thin black wispy smoke rose from her form, dissipating quick enough that Nimm thought it was a trick of her eyes. "Where's the door?" she asked aloud, looking a round again. Briefly she wished she had Dethblade teleportation. It would be handy here. "Maybe Dr.Lafleur knows why she's here..."

She moved her wrist up to her face mask, the bracelet clicking on. "Hello? Dr.Lafleur? If anyones there I could use a hand with something...I found....something? Someone...down in the basement. I can't get to them, but they look as if they're being held against their will down here." she explained. She wandered over to the control board, a myriad of buttons on the panel. She was afraid to push anything though without knowing what they did.

Adelaide raised a brow. "That's a stupid question Doc. I'm more adept then most." she smirked and blinked a few times, her vision spinning as she lurched off to the side and wretched into the waste bin. "Sunnova...." She coughed, a ragged sound that rattled her chest.

"Well that needs to be looked into." Annette quipped, changing her gloves and moving to grab her stethoscope, pausing as the communication device went off, and Nimms message was heard. "Ms. Rozenthall, where are you precisely?" she asked, looking over at Dokusei, a bit concerned.

Adelaide shifted off the table, getting her footing before going to the sink and rinsing her mouth out and washing her hands. Splashing her face with cool water, steam would be seen rising from her skin. "I'm fine. Worry about gimpy over there, he looks ready to replace his missing arm with one of yours." she pointed out.

"Dethblade. What a silly name." Annebeth spoke as the two sat and chatted about this and that. But it wouldn't last long as the noise from the communicator would enter his mind. "There is good in this world, Kain. Be well."

Dethblade quickly burst awake and regained his barrings, quickly opening a portal to Nimm's location along with one for Annette to walk through to reach Nimm. As he entered, Dethblade would begin to take a look at the multitude of controls. He'd then observe her for a moment...then grin. "There you are..." He muttered under his breath, waiting for Annette to arrive.

--------------

"Go on Dr. Lafluer, do what you need to do. I'll remain here and babysit the wounded." He said jokingly, waving to her. He'd look to Adelaide and laugh. "Do me a favor and come take a seat; save me the time of walking back and forth between you two." He'd then shift his glance to Cross. "How's the pain, Mr. Sadist?"

"It's distracting. It feels like my arm's still there...obviously, it's not. My body seems to be trying to compensate for the lack of magic circuits and my seals...I won't lie, it's...very, very distracting indeed."

"Ah yes, the magic circuits! Until those are rerouted one way or another, the pain's only going to get worse." Dr. Dokudei would explain while injecting various things into Cross' IV drip. "I'm putting you on a dilauded regimen momentarily until the problem is solved. It should help with the pain, and the lorazepam will help with nausea. It shouldn't take me very long at all to whip up a functioning replacement but know this Cross: I. Am the one building it. You. Work for Lord Dethblade"

Cross sighed and shrugged. "I get it, my life as a pawn to another has begun. I'm not entirely sure why Dethblade spared me...but I want to find out. And I want to learn from him...to fight again...n' get my stuff back..." His words would begin to slur as the meds started to kick in,

Dr. Dokusei just shook his head and placed a blanket over Cross as he laid back. He'd then look back to Adelaide. "Your turn my burning beauty!"

Nimm looked up as the portal appeared, a bit relieved to see Dethblade walk through. She tilted her head, wondering if the mask he wore protected his eyes from the blinding light like the goggles she wore. "I can't see a way down, and I'm not strong enough to break the glass. I was afraid to mess with the controls incase it did something to her. She hasn't spoken, but she screamed pretty loud when I tried to talk to her." she explained looking back down at the woman. "She's wrapped in some weird fabric....and...I think she's burning...I'm not sure. That light makes it hard to see."

Annette nodded before handing over the file and stepped through the portal, immediately shielding her eyes with her hand. "What in the verse is this?" She asked, irritated slightly from not being able to see. "Ms. Rozenthall? Would you kindly turn that light off?"

"I would if I could, hang on." she turned, going to the door and grabbing another two sets of goggles before returning, handing one to the doctor and one to Dethblade, just in case.

Annette muttered something under her breath, pulling the goggles on and blinking before looking around and walking over to the window, looking down at the woman. "She's completely encased in compression mesh. How strange. She doesn't appear to be under nourished, or soiled or hurt. Someone here has been seeing to her care...albeit not in a friendly manner to leave her strung up in such a way." She looked to Dethblade. "Another friend of yours? You look pleased." she pointed out.

Below, the woman strained, pulling at the restraints hard enough that spots of red started to blossom against the white of the gauze around her wrists and ankles.

"She looks ready to rip her own limbs off with that effort." Annette pointed out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adelaide turned slowly, using the counter for support, a low growl of sorts coming from her. "My turn for what? I'm fine." she insisted.
PostPosted: Thu Apr 04, 2019 8:57 pm
"Of course. If anyone would know pain, it would be you..." Dethblade spoke aloud while taking the goggles and examining them for a moment. His mask allowed him to see in most facets of sight, including in the incident of a flashbang. Pocketing them for later use, he'd instead begin to look around. "Find me a way to dim these damnable lights and find me the name of her caretaker; any information you can find on them is to be transmitted to me immediately."
Directing his attention to Nimm, Dethblade would merely stare for a moment. "She called out to you. She could have called out to any of us, but she chose you. Why do you suppose that is, Nimm? If you like, I'll open a portal to her and we can find out for ourselves. Oh yes, speaking of which..." Two portals would appear before his arms briefly, just long enough for him to grab the goggles and place them around the struggling subject's eyes with both hands before pulling them back through the portals. He felt it a rather risky move, completely aware her powers may well allow for some trickery, but he figured the benefit of sight through the light might well be worth behaving for. "I want her to trust us...to look to us and know we are here...as saviors."
-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-
"Fine, you say? Well now that's a laugh; you can barely move without using something as a crutch and yet you say your fine..." Dr. Dokusei would snicker and throw his arms in the air dramatically. "How very tough and mighty you are; truly a gem among a world of s**t!" His face would then go flat and he'd point to the bed. "But let's check up on you, just for funsies. I mean it's not like it's my job or anything to make sure you don't die, or suffer, or anything else that might concern my Lord...oh my, wait a moment: that's precisely what I've been tasked with!"
He'd sigh after his long-winded string of sarcastic remarks and sigh. "Look, I'll make you a deal 'cause honestly? I just want to stick a needle in you and make you sleep too so I can continue on with my project while I babysit two unconscious bodies. Here's the deal: I get your diagnostics. You stay here till Dr. Lafluer returns. In return:" He'd reach into his pocket and pull out a handful of lollipops, holding out five different colors. "I'll let you pick!"
Annette nodded, going to the control panel and starting to look it over, typing a few things into a keyboard as she plugged a phone into it. "It should transmit to the system I set you up with automatically. Real time, so you'll see what I see now that it's synced up." She explained, unplugging the phone and handing it to Dethblade. "It will also act as your access to the remaining sections of the hospital." She went back to the screen and typed a few more things, her fingers lightly clicking the keys as she went through to find the logs, stopping and tilting her head as, brows furrowing in confusion. "The logs...were erased recently. Within the last 24 hours. All the records are gone."
Below the woman tensed, going stiff as a board as the goggle were placed on her. She took a shaky breath, calming down finally, and slowly relaxing. She stayed still a bit longer, until finally a crack, hushed voice came from her. "T-turn off....turn off....lights."
Nimm turned to look at Dethblade, her skin prickling hearing the woman speak. She squared her shoulders and nodded, looking intent on helping however she could. "Right, can you give me a way in there?" she asked.
Annette fiddled a bit, grinning a bit as she finally got the blazing bright lights to turn down some. The floor and walls of the room below turning off and leaving the ceiling a glow. "There, that's much better. What in the world was the purpose of all this?" She looked up at Dethblade. "Do you know what is going on?"
Adelaide frowned, glaring at the doctor again before closing her eyes and nodding stubbornly. "I'll be quiet and stay put. No need to knock me out." she explained, straitening back up and gingerly moving to sit back down on the examine table she'd woken up on. "Two things. Yes, I'm aware I have a fever. Its perfectly normal for me to run between 45 and 50 degrees Celsius. No, you may not give me any medications to bring it down. I'm fine." she ran a hand through her hair, rubbing at her temple a moment again before looking back up at him, eyeing him suspiciously. "Your the Doctor that Sparrow wanted to meet with, right?"
PostPosted: Tue Sep 03, 2019 12:32 am
"...who..." That one word was Dethblade's only response to the fact the records had been erased, and recently at that. He'd look down at the phone he was given while grimacing beneath his mask and begin to swipe and tap away. "I want a name. I want to know who was down here and just what they were doing."
He'd soon look to Nimm and stop his frantic searching, quickly deciding this goal could be achieved later. And thus he would pocket the phone and hold out one hand towards Nimm. "Walk steadfast. Fear nothing. Should something go wrong, know that I can pull you back. You are in...little danger." And with that the portal to the subject girl would open only a few meters from her.
Focusing on Nimm and the portal, Dethblade's eyes would briefly shift to Annette. "As usual I have my theories, and should this one prove true then we've uncovered an unparalleled treasure. In my world...the girl was Death incarnate, scythe and all."
[][--------------------][]
Dr. Dokusei smiled as Adelaide complied, gathering his sundry of items to perform her vitals. "That's quite the temperature! That makes you pretty unique, doesn't it? I'd love to know why it is you burn so bright...but I won't pry, at least not right now." He'd snicker and record her data as he ran his tests.
"Is she even human?" Cross asked wearily, the drugs in his system making him more than a little drowsy.
Dr. Dokusei looked over to Cross and laughed. "Who knows! She sure does look like one, and she reads like one minus an agitated blood pressure...given circumstances I wouldn't call that a shock." Once he was questioned about Sparrow, he'd stop and tilt his head, smiling. "You know Sparrow, then? You grow more intriguing by the moment."
Annette had gone back to the screen, clicking and typing away. "I'll do what I can, but computers aren't my area of expertise. I'll have Dokusei look into it. He may be better at finding something." she explained. She paused as Dethblade gave his explanation of the woman below and slowly looked up at him, then to Nimm as she walked through the portal, not seeming to mind the explanation Dethblade had given, or maybe she hadn't heard him.
Nimm stepped out on the floor below, blinking a moment and removing her goggles to look up at the figure that hung, bound and contorted. Up close it was easier to see the strain in her muscles and how tight the binding really was.
"Please..." The raspy voice of the woman pleaded. Nimm turned and found a key pad, she walked over and examined it, taking a few moments to see the wear on the keys. A couple attempts on the most pressed keys and a series of beeps triggered a whirring sound and a click as the restraints were released, dropping the woman to the floor with a bit of a thud. "Ah, I'm sorry!" Nimm turned, hearing the hollow thud.
The woman laid crumpled on the floor, hands slowly moved to her face, fingers moving to dig at the compression mesh that covered her form like an odd sort of mummy.
"Hang on, I got you." Nimm moved closer, crouching near the woman and reaching to help remove the mesh."
"Stop!" Annettes voice came through the speaker, startling Nimm and the woman on the floor below. "Do not touch her Ms.Rozenthall." She seemed a bit anxious, having rushed to the speaker to stop the girl from accidentally killing the woman. She turned, looking to Dethblade. "I'll go down there and see to her. I'm curious if she still holds that same sway in this world."
Below, Nimm had froze, slowly pulling her hand back and backing away from the woman before sitting on her knees. "Sorry. I had forgotten for a moment. I saw you in my dream...and you weren't afraid of me there...I guess I forgot that I can't touch you here."
"Dream?" the womans voice sounded hollow, muffled slightly from the mesh.
"Yeah, the dream you found me in. That...that was you right?"
"No..."
The response was a whisper, and Nimm watched as the woman slowly seemed to relax. The black smoke that had been coming from her earlier seemed to be getting thicker now though. "What is that, hey, are you-" She had reached out, only to be stopped as one of the tendrils of smoke wrapped around her wrist and tightened. "Ah! That hurts..Stop!"
"No. No. No! NO!" The smoke had gotten opaque now, and it was becoming readily apparent that it wasn't smoke at all, but the shadows in the room that were being pulled together around her, acting as arms to help support her. The mesh tore on her face where her mouth would be, a shadow cutting it open from the inside, a black liquid dripping out as she gulped in a breath of air and screamed again, clutching at her head, the tendril that grasped Nimm yanking back, hauling the girl clean off the floor. "No more! I won't sleep anymore!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Adelaide gave Cross a flat stare as he asked the question of her species. "The Short answer is no." she said simply, not elaborating on details further as the Doctor continued his exam. She gave a single nod to her knowing Sparrow. "I was suppose to go get her and bring her back here to meet you, but...well that ******** decided to hold me up. So she's back in her Nest probably blowing up my coms wondering where I am." she smirked.
PostPosted: Sat Sep 21, 2019 11:32 pm

Dethblade nodded to Annette. "I sincerely hope that between you and Dokusei, something can be found." He then turned his attention back to Nimm. "For now I suppose we put all of our faith in her. You beckoned to her...now comes the next verse."

His fists clenched as the bound figure revealed she had not called out to Nimm. "s**t!" Would be the only thing to leave his mouth before a portal would open for him, appearing directly behind the bound woman. "Release her and I promise to hear your plea. Harm her, and you will never see the world outside this room again." As he spoke, several portals would open with golden chains bursting from them, each one aimed at a different appendage. But each one would stop short of her as Dethblade knelt down. "You've slumbered long enough, right?" The shining golden chains would begin to inch ever closer, close enough to feel. "Or do you want to test the Chains of Heaven's restraints? I promise you this: harm one hair on that girl: if you comply, life will become exponentially better for you. But you need to let the girl go...and I need you to speak your name."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Well if you're not human, then what manner of beast are you?" Cross snipped with a smile while trying to sit up on his one good arm.
"Damn it, will you just be quiet please? Rest from crap's sake and let me deal with my patient! Honestly, have you no respect for another patient's privacy? As a matter of fact..." Dr. Dokusei stood up and moved to Cross, watching him further attempt to sit up. Dr. Dokusei pulled out a syringe with a grin, and before Cross could manage to act against him, a fluid would be administered to his IV, and in moments Cross would be fast asleep.
"We've got some time now." Dr. Dokusei turned to face Adelaide again, hands in his pockets, and began to approach her. "So here's some trivia for you: my name is Setsumei Dokusei. I, unlike you, am a human being. I'm not special or empowered, just a regular human. Among all of you with your incredible gifts, I am but an ant scurrying away from the shoes of you titans. I have several Ph.D's in things such as biology, psychology, computer science, and some other nerdy stuff. I have a knack for inventing, and I have an addiction to experimenting. And someday...I hope to surpass God's masterpiece; the human being."
He then sat in his rolling chair and placed his arms behind his head, pushing off of the nearby wall to roll over to Adelaide. "And I'm a friend to Sparrow. You are a friend to Sparrow! And you know enough about me to pass a critical judgement. So what now? I'll give you a choice: walk out of here right now, and do what you will with a clean bill, or...stay here and talk to me. In return for the latter, I'll owe you a favor. And I'm someone who doesn't offer many favors...nor do I half-a** their completion."
Nimm hung, dangling from her wrist held tight by a shadow as the woman froze, sensing the newcomer and his chains as they got closer to her. "A name...too many...too many names...so many names...its been, such a long time." Slowly she lowered Nimm back down, looking over her shoulder at the man and his chains. "She told me you'd come here. Told me to tell you a name...its not one they used, only her. They call me Subject, Creature, anomaly, ancient. They call me dangerous. A calamity. She...she called me...Shade." Her gaze shifted to Nimm as she set her down gently. "That one speaks with her voice, but she is real. Not a construct of my mind. Not a dream..." her voice sounded tired, confused. "She said you'd call me Death...and Death was what i was to usher into this world. To reset a balance." Blue eyes shifted back to him, emotion unreadable except for a hint of curiosity and maybe a a bit of tension.
Nimm knelt on the floor where she was placed, shaking a bit and wheezing. "D-doctor..."
Annette was already through the portal, moving quickly over to the girl and kneeling, pulling her phone out and tapping a few buttons. Nimms mask gave a soft set of beeps and a hiss. "Easy, deep breaths Ms.Rozenthall."
She nodded, inhaling a shaky breath and after a few more relaxing and steadying herself. "Im alright now...thank you." She pushed herself up, getting to her feet and standing, looking over at Dethblade and Shade as she had dubbed herself. "You said you saw someone that sounded like me? Where they the ones that put you here?"
Shade shook her head, the shadow tendrils retreating. "She was a dream. A voice i heard only when i slept...but i slept often, for a very long time. Dreams and reality often fade into one another."
~~~~~~~~~\~~~~~~~~~~~

Adelaide smirked, chuckling a little after the mini expose Dokusei gave of himself. "I see why Sparrow is interested in meeting you. Shes got a knack for technology and inventing things. She designs and makes most of my gear. And her own." She rubbed the back of her neck, cracking it before rolling her shoulders.

"Favors seem to be a universal currency. The sleeping noise maker over there also dealt in favors. Seems that's how he got most of his abilities." She pointed at Cross. "Im use to questions...and i wouldn't mind having a favor from a doctor in my pocket. So sure, what the hell. I have a hunch i know your first question." She reclined back on her hands, crossing her legs and raising a brow as she waited for Dokusei to start his questions.

Dethblade would smile behind his mask as Nimm was set down, but the more he listened to the woman, the more that smile would fade. He'd listen close to the tone of her words, how she chose to construct them, trying to read into her comments as much as possible. He'd look into her eyes once she turned, issuing her and icy stare. "Then Shade it is. That is, until your true designation is determined. And if you are to be Death incarnate, well...who am I to argue?"

He'd look to Nimm, thankful for Annette's assistance. A small sigh of relief would escape his lips before turning back to Shade. He'd stare for a moment, the Chains of Heaven retreating back into the portals slowly. "Welcome back to the lucid world, Shade; to reality and all things real. Prepare to be amazed...and disappointing. That is...so long as you join us." Dethblade held his hand out towards Shade, his free hand waving over his mask to disperse of it, revealing his face.

"My name is Dethblade. This hospital, and everything in it has been appropriated in my name, and thus this lab...and you...have fallen under my jurisdiction. Therefore Shade, I have the ability to free you. Joining us means you obey me, this is true. You answer to me. You abide by my word. But I promise you this, Shade: I will be fair, and I will be just." He'd then offer here a sincere smile while his unblinking violet hues remained fixed on her blue orbs. "Join us Shade. Become a friend to those that will reshape the world, free from tyranny and enslavement as you've suffered. A world that will know and appreciate your pain; a world of understanding and comprehension via shared empathy. And you, as Death, will reign as Judge, Jury, and if you so wish, Executioner. Help us free this world from strife, Shade."

† † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † †

"Excellent!" Dr. Dokusei exclaimed while rolling right up in front of Adelaide. "I will say I'm excited to meet with Sparrow; us inventors either get along splendidly or end up hating each other's guts and I wanna see which it'll be." He smirked and pulled out an infoBAR, activating the tool to begin tapping away.

"I bet you do know my first question; even the one-armed wonder over there knew it...so let's get to it, miss Adelaide: what race of being are you, and what gender of that race are you? I can make an educated guess at the latter, but the former? So many possibilities..."
