ℭrickets chirped in the early spring morning, welcoming the sun to awaken the world from the mystifying night. A calming breeze brushed past the leaves of the trees, rustling them as the mornings' song chimed in the ears of the birds whom all joined in the merriment. Squirrels scampered from tree to tree, down to the soft patches of grass below and slowly made their way to the simple stone well outside the seemingly forgotten cottage just on the outskirts of the elven city. A simple wooden chalet with boards painted a dark green and cream for an unpretentious appearance. Wild vines grew in spots on the dwelling, in corners and windowsills; a pile of logs stacked neatly in a corner beside that of an axe lodged within a stump no doubt once the tree used to create the dwelling there now. Sunlight filtered through the lattice windows, bringing evidence of the dancing dust within the abode. The unswept floors revealed the mysterious life inside, small rooms connected openly from the entrance to the kitchen where a small table and two chairs sat facing one another on opposite ends. Cabinets near the sink housed the dishes and beneath those lie a small stack of hand towels beside a bowl of fruit. There were no light fixtures within the home, only iron made holders for candles to be lit save for one room. Past the kitchen to the right through an archway was a larger room hidden from view when one would enter the home. Aligned the wall were shelves of many books about nearly every herb and plant life found within the forests of Aslyra, some of them written by the owner of the household. In the center of this room is a table with tubes and bowls kept safely away from the rest of the dishware. Jars of various color and seed were kept locked away in a cupboard facing the table. In the corner facing the room at an angle to look at the books and the table was a small rocking chair with a soft yellow cushion that appeared to be frequented often. Near the cupboard and the wall was a fireplace for warmth and light, as well as above the table a basic chandelier of candles, created in a way that whatever wax may drop it would be caught in small bowls underneath the candles themselves. Back out to the kitchen and towards the entrance, an open room for guests was set up and in the back of that was a small staircase to the second floor. It opened up to the bedroom that also acted as a study and a restroom just behind a modest wooden door. Lying in bed was the owner of such an establishment, waking from his sleep as the sun caressed his cheek.
With a yawn, the young master struck a match on the bedside table and lit a candle. Sitting up in his bed, bare feet stroked the floor as he moved from room to room, the pattering of water echoing through the house as he showered by candlelight. Stepping out and peering into the mirror, amber eyes staring back at the pale man as he brushed his teeth and combed his long raven hair. Dried and tangle free, he tied his hair back with a dark blue ribbon leaving some hair out of it to run down the side of his face on the right ending just at his chest, the rest of his hair falling just shy of the small of his back. He placed his mask over his scorched reminder, opening his eyes and simply stared at himself for a moment longer before moving back to his room where he dressed. A long sleeved jacket covered his body, though he left it open revealing his chest and parts of his tattoos on the left side. Fastened around his waist were a few belts seeming to close the jacket, darkened pants covering his legs fit snuggly inside his decorative boots. With the final touches to his attire, gauntlet-like gloves and decorative clip in his hair, the recluse made his way down the creaking stairs with the candle in hand. He made himself some tea and a simple breakfast of toast and jam made from the berries of the forest. He also made a bowl of fruit salad and some nuts before walking into the library to look at the jars of seed and color. A few of the jars were running low, creating a frown to appear on his face. Setting the candle on the table he pulled out a book and thumbed through the pages, making a list of the herbs he would need to gather to replenish the jars. Leaving the book open on the table he walked to the door, blowing out the candle and set it beside the door on the windowpane. A key in his pocket he locked his home and grabbed a simple walking stick and basket just under the hanging sign protruding from the right of the door frame; ' Ethereal Cobra Concoctions '.
With a sigh, Elidyr walked away from his home and headed deeper into the forest, not expecting much to happen much like any other day for him. Small dirt trails where he had gone into the forest before guided his path past moss covered trees and burrows of creatures just stirring. A gentle breeze brushed past him carrying the scent of flowers to his nose and bringing him to take a trail less traveled. It led deeper into the forest as his boots crushed the leaves that had fallen. Sunlight filtered through the tree branches but even still it was darker, denser here. Snakes slithered before him, sometimes in his way where he would gently move them past him and continued on. The further he went the stronger the scent, and smoother the earth. Tracks left by deer and fox could be easily distinguished and in the trees the final calls of the owls before they retired for the day. Every now and then Eli gathered pieces of bark from the trees, adding them to his basket. He would gather certain herbs on the ground as he made his way to the flowers, knowing some of their pollen would be useful in his mixtures. Slowly light was trickling in more and more the further he went, letting him know a clearing was up ahead. More than likely where he would find the flowers carried by the wind. He stepped into the clearing and nodded to himself as he had deduced correctly. Walking closer to the flowers Elidyr kneeled down and began to scour for anything he may be able to use and replenish his jars back home.

It was the perfect morning to finally get some work done. And, not just the trivial, day to day curating done in the very well protected halls in Sylvenor's historical sanctum. This -- venturing out into the forest with treasure on the forefront of her mind -- was real work. Not only was it her job to protect the elven culture, but it was also her job to find what had been lost over centuries of change.
Just before the sun rose over the horizon, Ashlyn had begun weaving her way through the wilds of the forest on the outer-lying edges of her kingdom. The conventional, carved out paths would be of no use to her today. Her sights were set not on traveling, but on hunting. Treasure hunting, to be precise.
Long before her birth, her family had made themselves prominent as master seekers devoted to uncovering lost truths. Through the centuries, Di'Orisiniums eventually distinguished themselves as nobles dedicated to the worthy cause of preserving elven history. In reality, it was the proper, civilized way of saying 'treasure hunting' was in her blood. Magister Ashlyn Nox was not exempt from her destiny, nor her inherited responsibilities. And, she was perfectly content with just that. In fact, this very morning she had awoken from an anxious sleep with more than enough energy to tackle the long day ahead. She had packed a knapsack with the essentials, slung her mostly inconspicuous coat over her iron clad arm and snuck out of town before anyone else in the city had begun mulling about. It wasn't that she would get in trouble for leaving her sanctum, but if she dawdled for too long, she'd have certainly gotten sucked into a devastatingly formal affair. Today, Ashlyn had no time or patience for formal affairs. Her sights had been set on finally finding The Ivory Chessmen.
The Ivory Chessmen were a set of figurines carved out of the purest white ivory antlers from the stag Dvalinn. Dvalinn had offered the Elves these figurines as a gift of gratitude for protecting Yggdrasil from perishing during the early wars. Based upon what she'd read in old accounts, the ivory pieces had been stolen some four thousand years ago by - from what she could decipher - a disapproving Mage who claimed they were rightfully his. Since Ashlyn certainly believed otherwise, she had set out toward the edges of her homeland in search of what would surely be a skeleton of a forgotten castle by now.
After hours of hiking and nimble climbing, Ashlyn's delicate ears picked out the sound of rustling leaves far too methodical for a woodland creature. Her pace through the woods slowed, but did not stop. It was very likely that if she heard someone else, they would certainly hear her too. Which, wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing -- unless it was anyone else but another elf. So, in an effort to remain cautious, but civil, the auburn haired woman kept her cloak hanging over her iron-clad arm. To those unfamiliar with her, the gauntlet could be unsightly. The last thing Ashlyn wanted was to raise enough caution against her to elicit an unwarranted attack. To aid in this, it would also be unwise to avoid the man in the clearing altogether, so as she stepped through the bodies of the trees, a small smile graced her vulpine features.
"I guess I'm not the only one who thinks it's a nice morning for a stroll." Her unsleeved arm helped her pause against the trunk of a tree, fingers gently tracing the uneven bark that was rough against her soft fingers. Ashlyn didn't fully invade the clearing in order to keep a comfortable distance between herself and the stranger. After she spoke, her emerald colored eyes studied the man - obviously an elf - clad in dark colors. Although he didn't look particularly threatening, looks could be deceiving.

ℌis hands caressed each stem of the Ashredil flower before he took a small shovel from his basket and dug up a few of them, taking care not to damage the roots too badly. He also managed to sever the thorns and shear the leaves away from a lethal Zadret bush without pricking himself on their paralyzing brier. Slowly and methodically Eli made his way deeper into the flower patch gathering both weed and blossom alike. He could hear the patter of feet coming up the pass from the city and sighed in vexation to the obvious company he would soon procure. Trilling fowl serenaded above and the benign prancing of the deer helped to keep him calm as to his visitor. If the animals were not worried then he had no reason to be. Keeping silent among the trees, Eli uprooted Perfumed Felonwort, followed by Mimic Brittlebush as he focused on the approaching steps. Whomever the steps belonged to they would be smaller in build, not too heavy but well toned for endurance he would assume. Most likely female by the size of stride, or a young boy. Either way, they would be weighed down by something. A bag of some kind he would guess. Before too long he would be greeted by her voice and he would close his eyes for a moment before speaking, "The shop is closed for now, I won't open till the morrow, come back then." Eli turned his gaze to her once he finished plucking the last Mimic Brittlebush and nodded his head. "Magister Nox? Hmm, I didn't expect to be met by one of the higher order. Is there something you are in need of? Or perhaps you are pursuing your family pastime, though for what I am incognizant of." Elidyr stood up by this point, crossing the field and lowered his head in a reverent bow. His amber eyes traced over the young magister, taking note of the knapsack full of essential traveling paraphernalia, opting to guess she was indeed after the latter of his choices. He still kept a decorous distance between them, curious as to why the magister would be so far from the library and on her own.

A slender eyebrow piqued as a response to the man's first statement. The shop? Ashlyn's mind did it's best to recall the categorized, alphabetical list of all the merchants and their shops held in Sylvenor. Although not as prominently as the king or queen, part of her job was to be familiar with the kingdom's records. Anyone in the business of buying, selling, or trading - legally - registered. While Ashlyn did her best to keep track of vendor information, she was not always able to put names to faces. The man before her did not look familiar, so she went through the process of elimination.
He owned a shop. Worked early hours. In the forest, not in the busied streets. Had been kneeling down collecting fauna.. Did he own an apothecary? Ashlyn's eyes narrowed a bit as she inwardly swore that the apothecary was a woman, "Ah, well--" her mind slipped quickly back into the conversation. Over the years, she'd grown accustomed to having people recognize her, but she could never hide the bristle of discomfort that brought about an awkward faux cough, "You got me on the, uh, pastime there. I guess there's no point in resisting, plus, there are always lost trinkets in need of finding."
Ashlyn shrugged a shoulder as the right corner of her lip rose in a lopsided grin. She was very much like the Magisters that came before her, save for the fact that she had been the first daughter in a very long line of sons. The rough, adventurous streak in which her forefathers were praised and adored for didn't quite benefit Ashlyn. Apparently, it was unladylike.
"If you don't mind my asking, which one is yours?" Her hand fell from the tree trunk and she took a couple steps into the clearing. In doing so, she let her emerald eyes drift about the flowers and the foliage, "You don't own the Apothecary, do you? Or, are you the man who just opened up that Concoctions shoppe?" The woman knelt down to observe a sprinkling of tiny, milky colored flowers. They smelled sweet, like perfume. Her fingers reached out to touch their delicate petals.

𝒮he seemed surprised or rather disquieted that he knew of her, his gaze falling down her as she spoke. Faking a smile as she evidentally hadn't envisaged for her day. Elidyr nodded softly to himself and looked up to her meeting her eyes as she asked about his concoctions and his business. He quirked a brow, flabbergasted that she, being who she was, was unaware of who he was. He began to study her a little more as she reached towards a Perfumed Felonwort and Elidyr frowned a bit. "I wouldn't touch that with your bare hands Magister; unless you are wanting to experience a rather grotesque and itchy rash. I haven't made the emollient for it yet. I suppose your books would have me under the pseudonym The Ethereal Cobra, you may address me as Elidyr, or Eli if you feel so inclined." He told her, his voice monotone as he finished up a few more of the flowers he had gathered. He looked back to her and then to the forest placing a site she may be more conventional for her relics and forgotten treasures. "I can not say I've seen a sign of any ruin nearby, but you are welcome to accompany me to my domicile for tea and biscuits." He attempted being hospitable to his unforeseen guest. He motioned up through the trees that he had come from glancing at her for a moment before heading back himself. "If not I wish you well on your.. escapade through Aslyra." With or without her Elidyr moved through the trees as though he were one with how they flowed. Taking care in his stride to not disturb any of the foliage too much or alarm the inhabitants below in burrows and caves. If she were behind him he would make short stops here and there to collect more for his potions but ultimately led her back to his place of residency. If, however, she chose to part ways he would simply venture further into the wildwood for more integrants.

Her face scrunched up at the idea of a rash. Although her fingertips had stopped just an inch above the petals, Ashlyn pulled them away as if she'd been stung. A short huff of air pushed through her nose as she stood up straight once again. If the pretty flowers and plants were going to be so unpleasant, then she might as well keep her distance, "Huh.. Who knew something so pretty could do that.." she had mused to herself in a murmur, though it was likely loud enough for Elidyr to hear with their heightened elven senses. Ashlyn let her arm return to her side, falling within the confines of her forest green cloak.
"The Ethereal Cobra is a familiar name, indeed. It will be nice to have an active potions vendor." She turned back to Elidyr, amusement dancing in her eyes. As he'd spoke of how to address him and an invite to breakfast, she couldn't help but become increasingly aware of how formal he spoke. Elves, by nature, could be a little more august than than most others. Even the worst parts of Sylvenor were beautiful and there were very few who were truly impoverished. Elidyr did not seem to be very rough around the edges, but in fact, rather neat, structured and organized. As her lips began to part to politely decline his offer, her hollow stomach protested. There was no denying she was hungry, and it was hard to pass up an offer of tea, "I suppose a little tea never hurts.." Her eyes glanced between him and the other side of the clearing, behind it which stood trees she had yet to comb through. At this point, Ashlyn hadn't been too far into her hunt and she had no reason to suspect that she was working against the clock. A little break wouldn't set her too far behind, and it was important to get to know her fellow citizens, "Can I help you carry anything?" she offered, still grinning a bit.

𝓛ike a cobra strike, did her hand recoil to her chest before delicate fingers laced the petals of the malignant flower. Elidyr looked at her impassively as her stomach revealed her negligence to feeding herself. He nodded his head and guided her through the forest to his humble home and shop, walking up to the well, and turned the level to bring up the well as to wash his hands. "Please launder your hands here before coming inside." He asked of her before strolling inside. He set the basket of herbs on the chair nearby, reaching for the matches in his pocket to light the candles as to irradiate the living space. Light danced on the walls in mutable patterns giving the otherwise stagnant abode, life. When all the candles were lit Elidyr grabbed his basket of herbs and took it into his study to work with later. He returned to the kitchen to turn on his stove and prepare the biscuits he had promised, opening his fridge to bring out fresh berries to turn into jam. The teapot was placed in the corner to heat and Elidyr took a seat at the table facing the young magister. "Welcome to my home, it's not much but it suffices enough. It should be ready in a few minutes. Might I inquire about your voyage, anything I might be able to expedite? Or is there perhaps something you wish to cognize about me?" He asked; a rather poor attempt at a conversation with his guest. He knew his home was very different than what she might be used to or thought of for someone of his occupation, but her opinion quite frankly, didn't affect him one way or the other.
