Byakuya Pride of the Nishi Byakuya was aware of it. The rising tension between the two greatest covens the world had to offer. It was only natural. When two strong forces formed and began to rival one another in influence and power, war was bound to happen. That was true for all forms of life. Humans, vampires, even animals. It was a tragedy, but a reality of life that couldn't be extinguished completely. Even if war disappeared entirely for centuries, it would only rise again.
So, the call to arms didn't come as a surprise to the nomadic vampire. He traveled and dealt with many conflicts. Witnessed many tensions. Byakuya was all too aware of the tension between him and vampires that sided with the opposing coven; though, a formal war hadn't broken out yet, so they didn't engage him battle. That didn't mean he would ignore the summon to the Nishi home camp. He changed his course of travel immediately upon receiving the letter from his father. He was a nomad, but Byakuya had an obligation to the coven, so he would fight with them whenever he was called on.
It took three weeks to return home. Had he been alone, he would have been there in a few days. However, he had a pet with him; a lone boy of seventeen. Byakuya couldn't return any faster, or he'd have risked his health. Walking into the Nishi camp, the humans and lower ranked vampires of the coven began to whisper. He hadn't visited the coven in more than four hundred years; all the humans now knew him only by his name and the paintings of him. "Is that really him?" "I didn't know he was still alive." "It's him. It's Byakuya." However, there was another name thrown into the whispers that caused him to stop and look at the small horde of humans that grouped together on the side of the path.
Silvian.
Approaching the humans, who looked down to avoid at the ground to show the proper respect they were taught, Byakuya lifted one of the woman's heads softly. Golden eyes met with her green ones, and her face turned red from the contact with him.
"Has my son arrived?"
"Y-Yes, my lord. He...arrived a few weeks ago. Forgive us for whispering."
"There's nothing to forgive. Please, carry on." Releasing her chin from his hold, Byakuya ushered for his pet to follow him as he continued through the camp. He only stopped when he noticed an abnormality in the scents around him. Stopping a lower ranked vampire, Byakuya looked around before looking at him. "I don't smell my father's scent. Where is he?"
"Lord Akihiro left last week, sir. He was tasked with trying to form peace between the covens before a war broke out. He's expected back within the next few days." He dismissed the other and looked towards the direction his father would have disappeared in.
It wasn't that Byakuya doubted his father would succeed. No, quite the opposite. His father was a being that lived to create peace. He yearned for a peaceful land. They were right to send him. But, he was a son and all sons worried for their fathers and mothers. It was only natural. Closing his eyes, Byakuya turned and headed for the main tent to report in. After he did so, he would have to visit with his own son. It had been far too long.

The war with the covens had been brewing for years it was only a matter of time before things actually exploded into an all out war. Silvian let out a sigh knowing that his father had been summoned for this war as well. He rarely spoke to the man and he wasn't sure how he felt about the entire situation. Whispers were floating around about his father returning and so he decided that he had to go and find the man that had sired him. It would be nice to see the man that had given him life, but he also wanted to see just where he had been. Walking down the hallway he spotted one of the coven's pets and took her arm. His eyes glowed slightly and he could smell his father on the woman, only faintly, but just enough that he knew there was nothing more then a light touch. "Where is Byakuya?"

Byakuya Pride of the Nishi Reporting in wasn't a long process. He simply had to inform the commanders he had arrived as ordered and report any tension he witnessed on the way to the camp. Which, with how things were now, was no small matter. He had been forced to kill two opposing vampires that dared to attack his pet, but that was really the only thing worth noting. After being dismissed and his pet given a ring with a sapphire cut into the shape of a crescent moon to show he was not for coven-wide use, Byakuya left the main tent and made his way through the community.
Due to the large number of nomads in the Nishi coven, a camp had to be set up to house them all. The town the coven lived in wouldn't be sufficient, and it was more practical for wartime. He only knew his father would be here because he said so in his letter; he was the one that trained the warriors after all. He trained Byakuya, and probably spent some time teaching Silvian a few tricks as well. Unlike Byakuya, his father was a much more attentive man; he still received birthday gifts from him despite being over two thousands years of age. Silvian was probably even more spoiled by him, being his grandson.
"Ezra, you're free to go and mingle with the other pets. Make friends and have some fun. However, do not get in the way of the warriors." His young pet blinked, a bit surprised, but was happy he would be allowed to speak with the other humans. After giving Byakuya his usual affectionate kiss on the cheek, he ran off and Byakuya continued on his walk around the camp.
He soon came across the sight of his son speaking with the same pet Byakuya had spoken to before, and he heard his question. It kind of hurt to hear him referred to as Byakuya by his own son, but it wasn't unusual for children to take to their parents' names. Though, he hoped Silvian didn't take to it due to bitterness. Approaching them, Byakuya looked at his son. He looked nearly identical to Byakuya, expect for the mark on his head and the blue eyes he inherited from his mother.
"I'm right here, Silvian. There's no need to interrogate the pets." He looked well. Silvian had been taking care of himself since they last met. How long ago was that now? Almost a century? "I hope the tensions haven't caused you too much trouble."

Silvian Nishi The vampire looked to his father as he heard the other speak. "Perhaps I don't need to question them but it is the fastest way to find someone with how many we have in the coven right now." The younger male was distant with his father the pride of their coven. Silvian hated it, he was the only son born to a human mother in their coven and as such he had a hard time especially given who his father was. "Nice to see you come back when there is war but not to see your own offspring." He said with a small growl. "As soon as this issue is dealt with I'll be returning to my own home and far from here." He was usually far away from other vampires because he wasn't considered to be a pure blood like his father. Yes they needed his genetics but that was about it.

Byakuya Pride of the Nishi Byakuya didn't express it, but the bitterness in Silvian's voice was both painful and nostalgic. Mostly painful, because it reminded him of how horrible of a father he was. It wasn't that he didn't care about his son. In actuality, Byakuya loved him very much. From the moment he held him in his arms as a newborn, Byakuya knew nothing would ever mean more to him than his blue-eyed child. On an emotional level, he was an ideal father.
However, expressing that love had never been something he could do.
It was mostly because he was a nomad, and had a nomad's heart; closed off and distant to oppress the pain of leaving behind those he cared for in order to travel. Even when he truly tried to express how much he cared, he always clamped up and never said what he wanted. If only Silvian could see that without being told. Or, perhaps he did, and was simply angry that his father was unable to say it. Whatever the case, Silvian's bitterness was understandable.
"The coven is in danger; I am blood bound to aid in its defense. There's nothing nice or pleasant about it." No, that wasn't what he wanted to say. He wanted to assure Silvian that he was happy to see him somehow, but he couldn't. It was too late now. "Your home is among the coven. You don't have to avoid them like a plague."
But, that wasn't true. Silvian had always been treated like a dhampir. Despite not having any human blood in him thanks to the strength of his father's genetics, he was still the child of a human and vampire; a half-blood. And, as such, those of the coven often treated him like it. They never physically lashed at him, as it would only entice his father's and grandparents' wrath, but he was...looked down on. Even though his birth spelled hope for vampires everywhere during a time of crisis.
Byakuya had been surprised to see how distant the coven was with his son. He had thought they'd treat him like any other member simply because he was the only child of their pride, but he'd been wrong. It actually tore him up to see him treated as an outcast. Infuriated him to no end. There was even a time when he had nearly drew his sword on one of the Elders simply for acknowledging his son in an illegitimate manner.
"You look well. I'm relieved."

Silvian Nishi "Yes the war with the coven is so important because it wasn't enough that the virus nearly killed our kind we have to fight each other as well." He clearly thought the thing was stupid and wished he didn't need to be involved at all. With luck this war wouldn't last long and he could get out of the coven. "So what is the plan, I take it now that your around things will get into motion." Hearing his father say that this was his home he growled and showed his fangs. "Don't ever say that. This isn't my home this coven was happy to cast me out the moment you weren't coming around again. Or have you forgotten I'm basically filth to these bastards?" He was clearly pissed off at this comment of his parent. "We both know I was only born because there was a need for me to be around. I'm nothing important to the coven." "Good genetics." He said after a moment taking a step back and turning from his parent. "Being a half blood makes you tougher it seems."

Byakuya Pride of the Nishi Byakuya sighed. Was it too much to hope there was still time to fix things with Silvian? They'd be here for...who knew how long. Shaking his head, Byakuya looked towards the distance again.
"That's precisely the reason your grandfather has gone to negotiate peace with them." Until he returned, they just had to assume he'd fail and prepare for war in order to be ready. "There's no doubt he'll fail; Father is a very wise man and has always been able to have his way by using his words."
Yet, he was a surprisingly dangerous warrior when it came down to it. Regardless of how the negotiations went, victory was assured for the Nishi coven simply because they had the combined power of Akihiro, Byakuya, and Silvian; who was strong, even if the coven didn't want to admit it. That was why he was summoned in the first place. They needed his power.
Silvian's sudden growl caught Byakuya by surprise and he listened to him. He was careless with his words; perhaps he should have been more specific on what he meant.
"Your home is with your grandparents. Do not cast them aside simply because the rest of the coven is too close-minded and traditional to accept you." He didn't bother commenting on what he said about genetics. He was right. Dhampirs were stronger than their purebred counters. "...I have been made general, and I've chosen you as my second in command. We are expected to attend the commander's meeting tonight at midnight to discuss ways to defend the homeland and those that are unable to fight. If you have any pets of your own, they will bunk with us in our personal tent."
He wasn't doing this because he wanted Silvian involved. In fact, he wanted him to stay the hell out of it. But, they had their orders, so it couldn't be helped. The next best thing he could do was keep his son close to him at all times to protect him, from both attackers and the coven's discrimination. No one would dare say anything to or about him so long as Byakuya was around, and if he was attacked, Byakuya would be right there to keep him from harm's way.

Silvian Nishi "I know, send in the great peacemaker and hope that everything will turn out just fine." Of course he was being sarcastic pretty certain he knew how the outcome would be. Sending one vampire even an skilled fighter into the coven of an enemy alone was a stupid idea. Granted no one would ever listen to him on the matter and he was stuck waiting just like everyone else. "My home is with my grandparents. Huh, usually the phrase is that it is with your parents. Not grandparents." He growled glaring at the man he got his looks from. "Oh goody. Im going to be taking orders from you once again. Best way to deal with those that cant fight is teach them. Or better yet, get them out of the coven completely. If they arent here when fighting starts they wont be hurt. Unfortunately, there will always be casualties. Yet we both know that no one will listen to me even if I am made second." As for the pets his father spoke of, he didnt really keep any. Those he fed off of ended up giving their blood of his free will.

Byakuya Pride of the Nishi Byakuya frowned at the sarcasm. He could badmouth Byakuya, who more than deserved it, but to doubt his grandfather was uncalled for and disgraceful.
"Are you implying that you don't have faith in your grandfather? I'll be sure to let him know everything he ever did for you was wasted." He sounded genuinely irritated. "Your grandfather has done nothing to deserve your spite. I suggest you pick your enemies better, or you will lose any allies you have."
Of course, Byakuya would never abandon his son. He would punish him, though. He wanted to strike him for talking bad about Akihiro's skill.
"...Unfortunately, your mother is gone and your father does not know how to be a parent." While Silvian was a child and still living with his mother, it was much easier to care for him. He was happier then, and adored his father's visits. Now, he couldn't stand him. "No, you will be giving orders alongside me. You are my second in command; not my subordinate."
They would listen to him. Byakuya would make sure of that. Before he and Silvian separated again, Byakuya was going to make sure the coven knew they did not have a place to disrespect his son. He was born because of their selfish need; they would learn to treat him with the respect he deserved. Even if he had to resort to extremes.
"They will listen to you. If not, I will have them imprisoned for failure to comply or even treason. A time of war is not a time to allow one's close-minded and arrogant s**t to determine their actions. They risk disaster for the whole coven, which will not be tolerated." Perhaps the war was a blessing. It offered him the chance to personally draw his sword on those that "compromised" the coven by refusing his son's rightful place. "I assure you, Silvian. Before this all ends, however it ends, you will have earned your rightful place in the world."
