I tend to sing, or make verbal noises when I feel anxious or...I don't even know why sometimes, the emotions behind it change but it does get worse when I'm anxious. Is this stimming? And if so is there anything I can do to change it? I get really self-conscious about it because of how it sounds(my social anxiety acts up and reminds me that EVERYONE HEARD ME MAKE THAT NOISE after hangouts with people) and I think I read somewhere that you can change the way you stim....I was just wondering if that was true.

My son "stims" by making weird noises. Mostly grunting or high pitched whining. I have learned many ways to help him feel less anxious as that is most commonly what triggers it. He has a stress ball he likes to squeeze as well as a pocket sized brush he will use on his arms or his headphones. He is only 7 though so I don't know what could ease your anxiety as everyone is different. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Although my opinion might not mean much, from someone who "gets it" when my son is in social situations and he "stims" I encourage him to not be embarrased or self-conscious as his friends have accepted him and all his quirks. I hope I helped some. Just try to find something that eases your anxiety that you could bring with you places.
