A new adventure//

Malise ran a finger over the old ink of the letter, the words echoing about her mind as though it were an empty cavern simply bouncing off the walls. She couldn't seem to take her eyes away, even as her ride slowed to a stop. More words echoed alongside the ones in her head... Getting louder and louder...
"mam!"
Her eyes jerked foreward, a sudden realization the words that had recently joined weren't her own. "We're here..." he repeated. Malise quickly nodded, tossing foreward some gold and slipping out.

She sighed as the car drove off "I can't beleive he's dead...." Her eyes narrowed, reading over the words one last time before crumpling the paper to carelessly toss aside. The street was allready filled with litter... Why not add another peice. Not to mention kids seemed to like gathering it to make various hats.
Her eyes trailed up the building infront of her, her fathers dieing wish.... was held in the building before her. She took a deep breath in... then out, slowly stepping foreward.

"Adopting a child.... Crazy old loon...."

Malise's lip curled in distaste as she stared down at the wiggling child. "Alright then." She announced to no one, looking around the various things she'd picked up from the store. baby food, a highchair, a crib... some other crap. Though she hadn't splurged on toys... one of those 'I did fine without them growing up, she can too' things.

With her mental checklist complete malise set the child down into her highchair... Frowning at her, which only caused Kelby to sink back with a desperate hug on Mr.pooky. Malise only seemed to frown more at that Don't cry...Her mind begged, as she forced a smile, showing off her mouth full of sharp canine-teeth and nothing else. Kelby whimpered some at the pearly whites.

Malise let out a sigh and drew back, "What do you want from me?" No responce. Alright... Whatever. So now what was she supposed to do with it? ... Oh, right. FEED it. Simple enough.
With that thought in mind she migrated towards her kitchen, digging through the bag of babyfood... She was an eel right? And.. eels are seafood. Afterall, they lived in the sea. So the only logical choice had been to grab some fish-based babyfoods.

Snapping one out fromt he bag, along with the colorful pink and teddy-bear decorated spoon, she walked back to Kelby, unscrewed the jar, and then set it and the spoon infront of her.

Kelby looked at it, then back to Malise.

"Go on, eat it." Malise commanded, crossing both sets or arms.

Kelby looked back to the food, and continued to stare... Ignoring Malise as she began to tap her foot impatiently. After what seemed forever, Kelby reached up for the jar. "Finally." Malise sighed, releived.

Then, Kelby simply shoved the jar over the edge, giving a tiny giggle. Malise lashed out a tentacle to swoop the object before it hit the ground, eyes widened a moment... Then narrowed into a glare. Some of the shrimp-baby food edged it's way from the tilted can, splatting on the floor with a loud 'plop.'

Her eye twitched, Kelby giggled again. Slowly she returned the jar to it's spot, holding it there with the tentacle as Kelby tried to give it another shove, having found the first so terribly amusing.
Malise wasn't as amused... "No. Bad. This is for eating." Again, Kelby just stared. "Eeeaatinnggg." Malise, picked the spoon up, dipping it in the mush and then holding it out to Kelby.

Kelby looked at it, confused at first before the smell hit her nose. She grinned widely, chomping down on the spoon. Teething on it a moment before getting all the actual food off to swallow it.

Malise blinked in suprise. That had.. worked well. Alright! Sucess! She dipped in another spoonful, holding that out as well.

"Hey watch the fingers!"

So.. I guess that's it. I'm a "mom" now.

I kinda had to, it was pop's dieing wish... So, I headed out to the nearest adoption center I could find and got a kid... (Like hell if i was going to birth one.)
I ended up with a Moral Eel child... She's, cute, I guess. A bit wiggly and slimey... And she enjoys the water, which.. I don't. Lets just leave it at that.

However I don't really mind the runt, she mostly sticks to herself or hides behind that pink bear of hers. It works. Now if she could just eat her food by herself...

Whatever though. I'll try to take her out to the lake sometime, she seems like she might enjoy it.

So all and all... It's not too bad. i don't see what everyone complains about, and soon she'll grow up and move out. no big deal.

Arafel
The new mother sighed, carrying the eel child in her arms. The little girl had burried herself in the crook of the feline's arm, Her own arms wrapped tightly around mr.pooky.
Malise, a displacer beast anthro, had no thril at all as she neared the lake's water. She wore a dark red swinsuit-Fresh from the store they had stopped on their way here. "Allright, swimming... Just like I promised."

The fourth wall child sloooowly peered from her hiding spot, eyes lighting up timidly at the sparkling surface of barton lake.

"See those big red and white poles floating out there, Kelby?" the feline received a nod from the toddler "Don't go past those, thats where people fish and boat and you'll get hurt." Another nod.

There was silence a moment, before Malise gave a frown and plucked the child from her arms and promptly set her on the ground. "Don't be so shy, you wanted to come here, right?" She huffed... It hadn't been her idea to get a child really.
She peered down at the child, whoum had just stuck herself to her leg. Malies' look softened alittle... Even if it hadn't been her idea, or want, she couldn't help but start to feel attached to the child.

"Fine! I'll go in with you." This received a tiny smile from the eel, as the arm not desperatly clinging to mr.pooky shot up. With a sigh Malise leaned down and scouped the girl up again and giving a glare to any feline's enemy, the water.

Toushin
Toushin was already there, lounging on a towel with sunglasses over his eyes, his arms behind his head and wearing only a pair of swim trunks. Nearby was the essentials for every trip to the beach: umbrella, cooler, and food in a basket and stored in that same cooler. If one looks closely they'd notice another towel, albeit smaller than Toushin himself, but there was nothing there. It could be a spare.

It wasn't though. Somewhere in the water was Duras, that rather large shark toddler living out his favorite pasttime: Jaws. The boy was naturally adept to swimming and playing in the water that he didn't require much moderation from his guardian, but Toushin wasn't that careless. Despite that it looks like the devil tail wielding human was lounging, he was keeping a close eye on Duras from the corner of his eye.

Duras, meanwhile, is still swimming. He's a little under the surface of the water though so his dorsal fin can't be seen as he moves fluidly and easily through the water. The tip barely skims over the surface and it would take a very keen eye to see it, and even then he could be easily mistaken for a fish. He was hungry, but not enough to get out of the water to go and bug the human for food. That future football player (because, hey, he had a big enough body for it now; imagine when he was a teenager!) kicks his tail behind him, folding his arms against his sides as he dives a little deeper into the water to chase after some fish.

Arafel
Manatine slipped into the water, her fur bristled at the intial touch of the liquid... Nng. She would have much rather just turned back adn had the swimsuit go unused...However, the bouncing toddler in her arms, who for the first time in a long while actually seemed excited, urged her foreward.

The tension caused by teh water unknowingly acted up her main skill, the one her species was named after. "Displacing" her colors, making her image look closer or farther than it was. She didn't even notice the people a ways off dodging her perceived image with confusion.

She haulted about mid thigh, flinching as she knelt down into the water. Moving Kelby away from her body, holding her jsut enough so her head was above the water.

Kelby grinned as she finally went into the water... it had taken long enough. She gave a wiggle of her eel-body, enjoying the weightlessness and freedom that came with being in the water. She could hardly hold herself upright on land.

Toushin
Behind his sunglasses he takes note of the rather pecuilar creature nearby. Her appearance is enough to warrant him to sit up, pulling the glasses up over his brows a bit to narrow his eyes, trying to get a better look at her. All in all he actually isn't frightened, but he is ableit concerned. Maybe if he had seen the little eel child, he might have felt differently but he didn't.

His hand rubbing at his chin, he drops the glasses down afterwards and climbs to his feet to head towards the water, in search of his own child.

Duras, however, is not as concerned as Toushin. Beneath the water he spies the legs that slip in and then the long, slender, legless form in front of them. His shark curiosity gets the best of them as he goes in a full arc to turn around, lifting his head up over the water some and then dipping back in. A powerful kick of his tail sends him darting through the water in the very classical sight of the dorsal fin cutting through the water like a hot knife through butter. His target: the displacer beast and her child.

Arafel
Malise's ears perked, peering towards a dorsal fin as it shot by, if it hadn't been for her displacing feature the boy probably would have ran right into her side... However, to him it seemed like she had been just a few feet foreward.
She frowned a bit, lifting herself the eel child from her water. With her second pair of arms holding the girl at her side, she peered towards the last place she'd seen the dorsal fin...

Sure any other parent might have been a bit concerned by such a sight... However, her past and initial disposition made her hardly show any heed towards the odd occurance.
If the shark-creature, whatever it may have been, turned for a second try(As sharks often would) she would easily snatch it up out of the water with a mixture of hands and long tentacles protuding from her back.

While she wasn't the best fighter.. or the strongest, she was a cat. And as such her reflexes were more than keen enough to snatch something from the water.

Kelby blinked, her heartrate skyrocketing at the sudden awareness of the creature nearby. She relaxed as she was lifted from the "danger zone", automatically attempting to burry herself in the woman's arms.

Toushin
Missing? No, that's not what Duras did! When he gets close enough, he comes to an almost abrupt halt, a wave of water coming with him -- not necessarily too large, but it would hit the displacer beast nonetheless -- lifting his head up out of the water as well as a good portion of his upper body.

Then. Like some kind of dolphin, he spits water in the cat's face before turning his attention away from her to her little baby. He grins at it -- as best a shark can grin with his mouthful of teeth. He looks menacing but he wasn't out to attack. Yet.

Arafel
Malise's eyes narrowed as the spit of water smacked her in the face, only having the breifest of moments to ponder how odd it was a shark hadn't bit her but.. splashed her. Her displaced image had faded when she noticed the boy shoot past her... or atleast to him. The spell was much easier to see past once the caster's exact position had been spotted.

"Why you..." she huffed, her previously ready to grab tentacles dropping into the water to get a cup full of water. Flinging it at the boy like some sort of catapolt.
That would show the completely drenched shark... Hitting him with water. Yep. What a wonderful counterattack.

Kelby blinked, slipping further into Malise's arms, holding mr.pooky infront of her face to hide. A single yellow eye visibly poking out from behind the sagging pink bear.

Toushin
Toushin comes in just as the water wave goes splashing at the displacer beast and then Duras sprays her in the face.

"HEY! Hey! Don't do that!" he shouts, glaring at the shark whose head turns quickly to look at the human. As a result, he doesn't seem the water being thrown at him, which doesn't do much except to anger him.

"NO!" And just as Duras opens his jaws, looking ready to bite, Toushin gives him a smack on the nose that stops him mid chomp. The little boy sinks back and he shakes his head, grabbing hold of him. "No biting," he states sternly, not at all embarassed to have shown some kind of discipline; sometimes you had to, even with little kids.

"Sorry about that," he states, having not yet seen what the creature is because his focus had been on stopping the shark from attacking her. He scoops up the now quietly sniffling infant, shaking his head. "He's just got an itchy mouth. Likes to bite a lot."

He turns to look, blinking when he sees what's in front of him and that shocks him into silence.

Arafel
Malise watched the two, "That's right.. Sometimes they bite back." She added, smiling all too sweetly. Not that she meant she would... It was still a good thing to remember. Just like when you splashed someone it meant you got splashed back.

The displacer beast grinned slightly as the man looked up, his expression showed what most felt when they saw her. Shock, sometimes moving onto fear... Whatever it was, she never cared too much. "No worries... Took me alil while to get over my teething." she gave a wide, pointy toothed grin.
She paused to look down for the girl that had slowly embedded herself in her arms. "Alright... Get out of there, I don't want people to think I'm carrying that fluffy thing around."

Kelby gave a tiny hiss of disaproval, but after a moment or two of Malise trying nudging her from behind, the girl poked her head up over Mr.Pooky to stare at the strangers.

Toushin
Fear? Hardly. It was only shock because he has seen a lot, but this was something new. It took a lot to scare him, and she just didn't do it for him.

"Eh, still, sorry about that. I don't think he was going to bite... but I never know and I don't want him or me to be getting in trouble." He glances down at the shark in his arms, then to the eel as she peeks out.

"Oh!" Genuine surprise from him and he kneels a bit, keeping Duras above the water with him, looking at her. "What's its name?"

Arafel
She hadn't thought it was fear yet... Most just simply seemed to lead that way, was all. Though he seemed to stop just short of it... Maybe he wasn't familiar with her species. That seemed to get the best responce. Shrugging off whatever thoughts were going through this strangers head, she watched as he knelt to interact with kelby. Her feline ears perking up and twisting so she could hear him better.

Kelby stared, shrinking back some when he knelt. But after there was no apparent danger, she slowly came all the way out. Mr.pooky simply sitting in her lap, if you could call it that.

"Her name's Kelby." Malise spoke up for the baby, since she was unable to do so herself.

"Little b***h--" her ears were back, voice barely understandable with the cat-like hiss that accompanied it. Eyes were wide-- those unmistakeable tentacles off the beasts back had already risen, nearly swiped at the small creature before her. They'd stopped, lingered just a few inches away from the small, sleek girl now crying all too loudly. Another hiss, and the woman was stepping back... clutching the injured hand that had nearly caused her to lash out in the first place. Kelby, the tot in question, was swiftly burying herself back into the pile of pillows. What was left of them, anyways, pulling others back on top of her body and curling up as tight as possible.

Malise snorted this time, eyes narrow as she watched. "Coward." was the last belittling comment she would make before walking out of the room, slamming the door behind her to leave the little girl alone.

The grandfather clock in the hallway was ticking... obnoxious with every stroke that broke the thought process in her mind. She wasn't meant to have kids, wasn't good with them! Especially not her life... not with what she did. And what had happened in there?! One second she was trying to tell her dear precious little bundle of joy her tuna sandwich was ready... only to be told no, the next second she was digging through a mound of pillows only to be promptly bitten when she found the child.

"s**t!" another hiss, a kick to the wall-- and a few stomps later, twitching tail and all, she was to the phone...

+++

Kelby sat in silence, in darkness. Tears stained her cheeks, her hair still tangled and a mess from sleeping. It was all she could do to cling to Mr.Pooky... Hungry, tired, confused-- scared. But the door was shut... safe-- safe inside these pillows, inside the dark. It reminded her of something, something distant... something warm and familiar.
