She had to give give him that easy as he was to fluster -which she found herself taking quite a bit of delight in!- Deva seemed equally dedicated to keeping up his unflappable manner. Or would it be near-unflappable by now?

She also hadn't missed the there-and-gone shift in tone at the mention of his father, which combined with the hints of his life being more than it seemed, painted a mental image of there being far more under the surface than she knew and more importantly, probably not nearly as pleasant as this walk. Kitami was absolutely sure of that much.

Speaking of, when the question came up she automatically gave a shrug, turning to face him which had her walking backward. "Dunno, I can't say for sure. What places does he like to hang around? The last place I spent any major amount of time in was the beaches and zen gardens-" Shaking down the animated for gold, naturally, "-or running between Barton and Durem" Deliveries and basic errands for the shopkeepers.

She was considering elaborating, maybe asking a few questions about what this 'old man' looked like when the elegant man's face fell flat as he brought up an important and forgotten subject -that's right!
her new suite!
"Ah!"now, where Deva's amusing expression was so for being on the flat side, Kitami's own? Well, one could have sworn there were stars in her eyes!
"I completely forgot!" She hummed delightedly and without another thought, took the stone-faced man's hand in hers with an eager tug, tail waving about in her returning excitement.
"Why don't we head there now and then you can introduce me-"
But of course, revved up as she was that didn't mean she'd forgotten her eariler observations, resulting in her quickly adding on..
"-only if you're feeling up to it, that is."

The subject alone was enough to make Deva facefault, again if accidentally letting the pressing issue of the room fall from his mind once again. "Father is an individual you'd know if you saw him. Unmistakably--"

Though before he could continue, he felt a sudden tightness in his stomach that caused him to stop in an instant. Silently looking side to side for a moment revealed nothing, though it wasn't long before the presence in question made himself known.

"You won't be making a bad first impression for that certain someone, will you?"

The gravelly voice that addressed them came from a tall and trim man that was quite the sight for any eyes. The greenish grey skin was enough to take in by itself, though the head wings of opposing elements weren't a common sight either. Perhaps the curly hair pulled back into a lazy bun would've softened his appearance had it not been black striped with white. And as if that suited figure wasn't intimidating enough, the bare clawed feet were certainly a striking feature to behold.

"Kitami, was it," echoed the deep voice as he leaned down into his cane to get a better look at the aforementioned individual. "I trust this fellow hasn't mucked up your introduction to our facilities too much since you've arrived." Though before she could respond, with unnatural movement his head turned to the diabao to give him an inquiring look over the matter. "Deva."

The sullen expression from before remained upon Deva's pretty face, acknowledging the interloper with all of one word. "Father."

"Ah?" That would have been followed by an 'is that so?", but seeing the imp pause and suddenly look around as if paranoid had her making that sound of question instead. She even followed his gaze in hopes of catching whatever it was he was looking for...

But! The question was answered in seconds by an older, gravelly voice that had startled her so badly that it had the demon reacting before she could catch up with herself. On reflex her ears had darted back, pupils slitted while her head snapped in the direction of the newest presense. Since she'd been facing Deva's side she simply drew much closer to the young man, and where she had cupped his hand in hers before it turned into a one handed hold, firm. Her other arm threw itself out across him with her now twice-thick tail pressed at his back as if to partially shield him, slender fingers splayed out.

Of course, this sudden shift had happened in less than a second, and had lasted all of two -taking in the older gentleman's appearance as he approached- before she realized what she was doing and quickly, as discreetly as possible, schooled herself back at ease in hopes the much taller fellow wouldn't have noticed as he addressed her directly, now. Her initial grip on Deva's hand had slackened back into a comfortable hold, though with the way it still trembled just so, it wasn't a natural transition.

And that was when she'd truly been able to process this older man? No, demon's features, between his having said her name and him suddenly turning to give Deva a questioning look. The loose salt 'n' pepper bun which held a certain charm, was something that was unfortunately offset by his shoe-and-sockless feet, paired with his well presented suit. His greenish grey skin was another saving grace in her books, though once again the oddly matched ears brought it all together in an appearance that was familiar and yet startling.

But wait-hang on. Why did she think it was familiar...?

And as if in realization Kitami's ears flew up as if they'd been yanked, just as Deva had returned the acknowledgement.

Oh. Ooohh!

And now that her mind had properly caught up to the moment the blunette threw out yet another bluff in her attempts to -in her perception- salvage for her blunder. Though perhaps bluff wasn't the most accurate word since the way she hugged her friend's arm to herself with a small laugh seemed anything but staged.

"Haaa! Hardly~" And indeed, what she said next was honesty seamlessly woven into the young woman's effort at playing along with the gentleman.

"Deva here's been a fantastic host! He even treated me to lunch~" Heck she still had a couple madelines to prove it! Oh yes, that's right! as long as she'd brought up food..

"Not to mention seconds thanks to that amazing tree of yours." And oh, here her smile had turned almost giddy, though even then it soon tamed itself at the next thought that popped back up in her head now that the mental chaos had well and truly settled.

"How the heck does he know my name!?"

It was enough for that strange and lanky man to amusedly observe for some time, one hand taken from his cane and too-long greenish grey fingers hovering over a thin smile as he did so. The boy's reaction was to be expected. Both predictably sullen and beautiful, but unused to emotional responses of those around him. That quiet confusion Deva held at both someone's protective actions towards and actually gripping at his person said as much, odd eyes averted from the scene before him for a moment in an attempt to both collect himself and determine the most appropriate method in which to proceed. Only to have the opportunity taken from him before he'd had a chance, as an entertained hum came from the figure of his father.

"A gentleman's inquisition, if you please and if apologies suffice." Though the regret in that low sleepy voice was unlikely to make the elegant but rather slow bow that followed any less unsettling. The looming height would've been enough by itself. The scant traces of human resemblance amongst so many inhuman features helped little. Straightening himself up to his full height and looking down upon them, eyes widening some as he did? Difficult to believe that it wasn't done on purpose. Though taking a strong stance with both hands upon the cane once again only served to go along with his message. "A man's livelihood cannot be compromised, of course." Of which the target of said message was made perfectly clear as those eyes rolled over to the figure of Deva. Only to have their lids lowered in the next moment, with concern over their guest. "I do so hope you'll forgive the interruption, will you?" Motioning one of those long arms out would serve as both an introduction to himself and the place at hand. "Marcellus de Sada, proprietor of L'Auberge de Sada. How may we help you today?"

"Tch." The quiet Deva had continued to sulk, otherwise unimpressed by the tall ringleader of the man that'd adopted him. Though apparently both polite enough to let him have his say and concerned in just what sort of effect the strange man would have on their guest, looking her over carefully in the meantime. Especially since that already rather unnerving face likely became moreso upon the mention of that tree, smile deepening and eyes oddly a little bright. "A delightful thing, that tree. But so little, compared to what the master's taught me. Almost nothing, compared to what the master can do." Creepy enough statements in themselves, but what amounted to what was expected of that man to say, if Deva shaking his head and pressing his fingertips to his forehead in exasperation was any indication. That idolatry was sure to only heighten her sense of alarm. Of that much Deva was almost certain.

A gentleman's inquisition indeed, though Kitami wasn't sure what he'd meant by that, and all the more confused when he'd turned to Deva with what seemed to be an offhand comment. No, no, not offhand, and certainly not casual by the way the older imp's posture had straightened right out and his almost lackidasical aura disappeared for something that felt more hardened to her.

She had had to consiously keep her ears from darting back in that moment, despite her friend being the target..

Then when he had asked her forgiveness again and introduced himself a look of surprise fell upon her, blue lips forming a neat little "oh" at just nearly missing the prompt to take his hand, which she had rather hurriedly. A few firm shakes in both of her own gloved ones -noting his own grip absentmindedly- then she'd just as quickly let go. She had to admit, the ease in his sales pitch did seem to make him a little less, erm, unsettling she supposed. That and Deva's quiet little huff added a bit of amusement which further helped. She hadn't turned to see the look on his face but her ear swivelled briefly his way.

So it was even more of a shame when Marcellus' answer to her implied question on the tree turned into not just another cryptic puzzle, but an even more unsettling moment of the older man seemingly having his own moment of borderline obsessive idolizaiton over his 'master', erm, whoever that may be. And now she really did wonder.

She tried to keep a pleasant face, scratching the back of her head with a chuckle that was part nervousness and oddly enough part amusement for what she saw as De Sada's intense devotion, trying to reason internally with herself then that really, he was just a weird old man with probably intense feelings toward his hobbies and this master of his, obviously -where was the harm? Which also led to a twinge of curiousity on the whole thing. Blame her nature on that one.

And her facade on the outside have worked but the demon's body language gave her away as it often did, with her tail now tucked between her legs and almost covering one of them in it's plush volume. At this point she had passed a few quick glances Deva's way as if to signal her need for instructions on navigating this!
The younger imp's exasperation just confused her even more, but if nothing else it did help seeing him still right nearby with how overwhelming the head proprietor's presense felt. His height definetely did not help either.

And so in hopes of sating her next question (which still wasn't the most important on her mind) and allowing her an opportunity to politely inch away from the weird old devil Kitami cleared her throat and mostly managed out, in a voice a little higher than she'd wanted.
"Soo then what can this master of yours do? You seem pretty fond of them, whoever they are...?"

"And seriously! how the heck do you know my name old man?!"

"....." Though still maintaining a quiet attitude towards their sudden intruder, those odd eyes looked to Kitami with some surprised admiration. Whether she was simply showing an incredible level of restraint by not outwardly reacting to the bundle of strangeness that had approached her with such an uncalled for level of familiarity or in actuality maintaining a level-headed approach which certainly outclassed what had been his own reaction, it was something he'd found impressive nonetheless. Only to facefault upon hearing the question she'd asked in her politeness, unaware of what she was asking.

"Oh~ Ohhhh." The jump and sudden drop in pitch of that creepily thoughtful voice was enough to unsettle Deva. The sudden shifting from leg to unnervingly long leg alternating with leaning upon and leaning back from his cane helped matters none. A step may have been taken to try to hide behind Kitami, though the pride of the prince-like boy was enough to keep him from completely trying to hide behind someone likely more disturbed by the ongoing scene than he. Mostly. Only to have that man's gaze snap sharply to him in that moment, red eyes completely wide as he did so. The resulting mewl, quiet as it was, would likely elicit some laughter from her. Though he hadn't hidden behind her, any more than he already was anyway, so maybe that'd count for something.

That stab of a glance over as quickly as it'd come, the weird figure became oddly calm again. "Dare we, though? Hmmmmmmm..." The reverberation of that voice was definitely a tangible feeling. The eyes that turned to Kitami were more kind than those that'd stabbed Deva. That and the smile that followed elicited a relieved sigh out of the previously panicked prince-like one. "Is that what you wish?" While it wasn't a question asked as a threat, it was certainly eerie enough in itself. Though Deva's lack of panic and follow-up detail had to have some merit, unfussed in what'd been said. "If by chance we'd end up finding him." It'd have to be left unsaid but perhaps the intent would be clear in spite of it: that the person they'd seek was someone he found far less creepy than the person before them.

Oh, now if Kitami thought the odd old man was unnerving before? that just got thrown right out the window for the current level of "deeply unsettling" that she was facing down right now. She'd half felt, half heard the shuffle from Deva to somewhat take cover behind her, and judging by the whip-quick stare his father had given him in that tiny movement? She couldn't say she wouldn't have done the same.

Actually, she sort of had half a mind to wheel round and hug his side again but, no, she had to maintain composure -she didn't want to put the weird oldster off with a bad impression or anything. No. She had something to prove at this point, damnit!
If she was applying to work here and couldn't handle this? The she rightly couldn't call herself a bloody demon! Plus she was sure her friends back at the agency would laugh her right back outta town.
The tiny whimper had been enough to sneak up a snicker out of her though, one end of her lips upturned in a toothy grin briefly... But it faded upon Marcellus' open-ended musings.

Well, after bringing it up? For all the unnervery the senior imp had subjected her and her pretty friend to the fox honestly couldn't find a polite way to turn him down, plus she had been and still was genuinely curious, even if her hair being on end said otherwise. It was notable consolation to her that her friend was a little more relaxed upon the mention of this mystery friend so perhaps, she thought or hoped, they might be less.. erm. well. less likely to catch her off guard like the old man here did.

After flashing Deva an apologetic smile with a quick shrug of her shoulders she looked back to the elder with her best inviting smile and a cute tilt of the head. "If you can find him, then sure!" She offered, before quickly fixing Deva with a reassuring nod as if to convey the hidden tactic behind her words.
That way... if all else failed or Marcellus dawdeled too long then it'd be easy-peasy for Deva to grab any opportunity that presented itself to drag them both the hell outta here. That and it could be worse.

They could be in some sorta closed space, well, one more restrictive and contained than this garden was. There'd be no way she'd be able to keep face had that been the case and for that she was thankful.
Hell, she'd take a full-out date with this weird oldster over that anyday!

Could that pretty figure of a man have turned to stone, in that moment, it certainly would have. Surely not out of surprise due to his foxy friend's bold demeanor, but rather just what actions could be twisted forth from those words by that shifty old man. And with trepidation building the longer said old man lingered within his peripheral vision, eventually the decision was made to make one last anxious push to have it over with already and see rather than avoid what reality awaited him.

Only to find his father, once again, entirely too close to the both of them. A short distance where most would have a discernable presence, whether present in the warmth of breath or gasps of personal scent, both of which were strangly absent from the figure that seemed to have little concern for the personal space of others. What was a matter of seconds likely seemed entirely too long, those red eyes half lidded as he looked over them with a smile that almost seemed contented. Only to slowly rise again, once those too-long fingers once again pushed the black and white curls from his greenish face. And though the resulting reflexive sigh out of Deva indicated some level of comfort had returned, the peaceful way in which the tall figure leaned upon his cane did anything but soothe. "Yes... I have a good feeling about today. Yes." That confidence was reflected clearly upon the glance he shot back to the kids, eager to get going before he'd actually clued them in to the inevitability that Deva dreaded.

"Shall we get going, then?" With both hands upon the handle of the cane as he raised it, it came down upon the ground with a crack that ended up more visible than audible. The air near the ground seemed to react, appearing to crack while the ground neatly collapsed as if it'd been intended to do so. The resulting ground angled downwards, though to where was quite unclear. Though from what could be seen the destination wasn't necessarily underground as one might've expected, nor anywhere that might've been elsewhere within the resort. Perhaps the lack of concern to be found upon Deva's person would be assuring, provided she didn't just find the sudden resumption of his typical petulant attitude just comical instead. The less than impressed eyes only had the time to look to Kitami and accompany an impatient shrug prior to receiving a sharp look backwards from their stately but creepy guest who had already gone ahead. "One must never keep the master waiting." And with another sulky shrug towards Kitami to express his dismay, Deva began to follow. Following a creepy man to meet a stranger that might not even be there, and already being chided over a perceived lack of politeness over it. Any lack of comfort had been swiftly replaced with a sizable amount of inconvenience.

And it would seem that contrary to her demonic lineage, that old fashioned fox's luck was not with her today. Or at least not this moment.

But it certainly wasn't all bad she thought, trying to -and totally failing at- holding back the snickers that trickled out of her when a keen ear heard her friend's unnerved little whine clear as day. But that? That came to an abrupt halt with an almost-squak when she found the older man suddenly too close for comfort, moreso when his lingering stare had already been enough to deal with, ayeeee!
Kitami mentally noted, ears pointed and close together against a both comically wide eyes and frown that funny enough? even then she couldn't pick up the faintest hint of anything from the guy.
"At least he seems... happy?" Even if she had no clue about what he'd meant about his good feeling. It couldn't be anything too bad, right? Afterall, she trusted without a second thought that the oldster wouldn't put his poor spooked and weirded-out son through anything too terrifying, even if she was currently finding it amusing a-la guilty pleasure.

Ah, but the resort's owner had set to set them all going with a solid and very unexpected rap against the... ground? "Ah!" The blunette felt eyes on her and looked back in time to catch the look Deva gave her, her lips pursing with her own shrug in return, though she looked to Marcellus as he advised them not to keep his master waiting. Perhaps they were the impatient type?

Still, she was a just a little bit uneasy about this now, not for going underground per se, but for the fact it was underground in a dimensionally separated space. It did help however to see her dual-haired friend already back to his sulky old self which was it's own reassurance, in yet-again funny way. Okay, she would be fine, no problem. no problem at all!
"So uh, sir De Sada?" Kitami looked again to the old weirdie after catching up to walk in-step with Deva, finger to her lips with a curious pout. all in all, it probably did nothing to hide the hint of hesitation in her voice and the way her tail curled in slightly.
"What's this Master of yours like? Do they come by often?"
PostPosted: Fri Sep 07, 2018 11:14 pm

What lied before them was what appeared upon the surface to certainly be tame enough, but upon closer inspection ranged from the unsettling to the most bizarre. Foilage grew to unusual sizes and unnatural colors, with unlikely and unseemly forms and calls from the accompanying fauna. Too many eerie eyes were set upon them. The garish gleam of entirely too many fangs helped matters little. Though even such a strange subterranean place had its own sense of order, as none of the chaotic creatures actually seemed to pay much mind to the old cobbled path nor any travellers that might be upon it. Deva too was happy to reciprocate that sense of ignorance, far more concerned with the strange man they'd felt obligated to follow.

"Bad. Which is bad," was his quiet response that unfortunately hadn't gone unnoticed by the subject of their conversation. He shouldn't have been surprised, seeing that terrifying solemn smile so many times previously. But he couldn't help it, trying his best not to seize up with terror as the man before them turned to observe what the mumbling was about. "What's this? A private joke?" How he could assume it was a joke was, appropriately, anyone's guess. "No one's laughing--" But that smile wasn't budging, and with a rushed nod it was just easier to agree that it in fact had been one.

That tall figure was easily distracted, anyway, by his most favorite of subjects. That even his slow and low voice took on a resulting dreamy quality was certainly a dissonance in sounds. "Master is the grandest of men, the greatest~" The weird forest of strange creatures almost seemed to be fearful of that level of enthusiam, with some tangible bracing for impact along with squawking and feathers flung here and there in anticipation for the ever increasing level of fanaticism presented. "Yes! So very grand." The unnerving place only became more so, with the way his voice reverberated through the trees. "Though certainly lacking in humanity." It was a curious statement that Deva defused quickly enough, rather bored with the exaggerations he'd heard too many times before. "Just means that he's not human." Only to be pointlessly and terrifyingly 'corrected' by said fan, long arms gesticulating to further get his 'point' across. "A human could never hope to be so graaaandddd. But busy. So very busy. Never an idle hand, nor a spare moment for even his most devoted disciples." To which the usually pouty and high-strung prince actually sighed, quietly explaining just what they were into to his unsuspecting friend. "Good luck to us to finding him." She was right; he was quite if frighteningly happy. Happily humming songs to himself as he led them along was preferable to being the focus of his attention, though just where he was leading them still left him troubled.
