(Dezani 8 ) “Uh…” Dezani quickly trailed off, gently brushing Araie’s hair out of the way for a moment so he could write down the answer to her question. He figured the question would come up eventually since she hadn’t asked it yet, he just hadn’t expected it to come out right then. He was honestly surprised she hadn’t brought it up sooner with how curious she was about things. Chewing on his lip, he scribbled out a quick reply, turning it so she could read it more clearly.

-I take my journal everywhere so that I can communicate with people. It’s the only way I can get things across when dealing with others.-

(Araie 9) Araie glanced down and read the reply, chewing on her bottom lip as she did so. So he never planned on talking? No, he never said that. He just said that it was the best way for him to communicate with other people. Still, she was worried he was never going to talk to anybody. It didn’t seem good for him. Then again, she was incredibly talkative. Not everyone was like that.

“Still. You have such a nice voice. I would hate for it to go to waste. Would you be willing to talk a little bit, even if it was just to me when we were in private?” Araie asked, a smile on her face. She didn’t want to push him too hard, but she wanted to hear him speak more.

(Dezani 9) -Probably not the best plan. It would not end very well at all. Besides, I can communicate with you like this.- He replied, holding it up for her once more. Speaking to others really did stress him out, but everyone always wanted him to try. It didn’t really matter that much did it? His journal helped him respond just fine. At least he thought so anyway. Araie moved away so that she was no longer leaning over him, the blood rushing to her head. She moved so that she could sit down beside him and looked at him.

(Araie 10) “Well, yeah, you can communicate with people that way. But it’s slower. What if you need to warn someone of danger? What if you get in a fight and still need to talk? What if you hurt your hands and can’t write? What would you do then?”

(Dezani 10) Dezani shook his head, running a hand along the back of his neck. He had never really thought about something like that before. He always took very good care of his hands so he really hadn’t thought of the possibility of potentially losing the ability to use them even if only for a moment. It was a horrifying thought to him and one he never wished to happen.

-I will work around that.- Araie sighed and ran her fingers through her hair. She didn’t want to keep arguing with him, but she was afraid that he was missing the point. Sometimes things happened and people couldn’t work around whatever happened. They just happened, and that was all. You had to adjust to what happened. Still, he didn’t seem to want to listen and she wasn’t going to push the subject any more than she really needed to.

(Araie 11) “If you say so. I’ll just have to do my best to protect you so that nothing bad happens to your hands, now won’t I?” Araie teased, sticking her tongue out at Dezani. The Leafling nodded happily, holding out his hands to her. She would be a great protector and he would protect her in return. If not he feared she’d get lost yet again.

“I’ll also try to not get so lost as much. I swear I didn’t get lost this much in Zena, but everything in Tale looks the same to me. It was much easier to find my way in the snow, but I’m pretty sure that sounds silly, doesn’t it?” Araie laughed, sitting down on the ground in front of him and looking up at him. Somehow along the way, Dezani had become a good friend to her. She hoped they remained that way for a long time.

(Dezani 11) “Sort of,” Dezani chuckled, chewing on his lip as he looked at her. Araie was always so kind to him and he really didn’t understand why. He felt like he should repay her somehow, but he doubted she would ever accept any sort of payment. He would simply stay by her side and help her through Tale as well as any other place she decided to head. As long as she’d have him that is.

(Araie 12) “Maybe one day I’ll take you to Zena and you can see what I mean about how everything there feels very unique. It really is beautiful, for a mountain covered in snow all the time,” Araie smiled, grabbing Dezani’s hands in her own. “I do really like it when you talk. I hope you don’t feel like I’m pressuring you to do so, however.” Dezani blushed at the contact and smiled awkwardly, ever surprised by Araie’s forward approaches. To Zena, huh? He’d like to visit it some day. Especially with her. The cold would be an interesting change from the warm temperatures of Tale, and he’d get to see snow! He would very much like to visit.

(Dezani 12) “That….” he trailed off, pulling his hand out of hers to write his response.

-That would be nice. I’d like that a lot.-

(Araie 13) “Good!” Araie grinned, jumping up from the ground to hide her disappointment that he had pulled away to write his answer to her. She couldn’t push him too fast, as much as she wanted to. She may be an incredibly impatient girl, but that wouldn’t be fair to Dezani to treat him badly because of her flaws. “I’m glad. We’re going to explore the world, the two of us! Best friends taking on everything that gets thrown at us!”

(Dezani 13) “Yes,” Dezani smiled wider, standing up after the incredibly excited Ice girl. He was glad that she was pleased to be spending time with her, he just hoped that she would continue to enjoy his company in the future.
