Release of the Beast King (Limit Break)

Kalen stood there, having successfully fended off the attack, and his look was not one of a normal boy from Winhill. Nor was it one from a fisher boy from Fisherman's Horizon. The young man stood with his fist pounding from impact as he searched for Fianna. The wolf was gone, out by Enkidu and quietly looked into the darkness that Kalen was in, and the young man was just...hostile. His eyes were narrow and if they could be any closer to animalistic, they were certainly trying.

His breath was slow and his hair was in disarray but his ears didn't miss a single word that the woman spoke. "I was finding your answer. You should know I'd never give in, to you nor anyone!" he hissed, no warmth to be found in his voice. Fianna's words might have found some basis, but the layer that Kalen held was punctured enough to break, letting loose a flood of emotion that he wished he could hold back. Hydra constantly cooed into the back of his mind, words talking of betrayal and of disloyalty. And the swordsman didn't hold back, words spewing that he never would have imagined saying to anyone breaking free.

"Your burdens...your responsabilities. You placed them on yourself! Coward?! You let others place you in a light you never wanted! You were too weak to say anything and to stand up for yourself and forge your own path. You think I've never been placed under the shadow of a father doesn't exist? You burden yourself and you hinder yourself because you don't have the gall to do what you want!" He spat at her, Hydra continuing the mantra of mental torture in the back of his mind, "I stuck up for you. I fought for you. For Nyale. For what, love? Because I wanted something and fought for it? I AM the fool it would seem. I came and found you, and I put you and Nyale, MY FAMILY, before anyone else! You can't even own up to your own failures!" Each word was punctuated with a swing of his blade, releasing it from its hilt and cutting down shadows that came up to him. HIs words lashed out, hoping to find a mark on the woman in the dark.

Break me then. What do I even care? His eyes couldn't see...until the mist came at him in a flurry of blades that punctured his skin. He cried out, perhaps from the shock, surprise, and pain from the sudden attacks but it was almost immediately that the world seemed to slow down, and his heart rate seemed to as well. No.... he grimaced, No.... Speaking of a burden...asides from the Hydra....No, no no, no no, no no. The world pulsed, and the pain seemed to fade off into the distance as he fell to his knees. HIs hair shifted from its blonde to a pure white, his eyes turning a true crimson as he let loose a gasp. Perhaps Fianna would think he was dying...but just like her limit break to him, this would be new to her. And with a final pulse, a flash of light and a piercing roar seemed to shake the world.

What replaced him was a Beast. Nothing less. An animal.

The giant form that replaced Kalen looked up at Fianna, snarling as he sniffed and caught her scent, seeing her body surrounded by a strange ring of flashing red. Kill. It was the only thought that ran through his mind. Who's to say that Kalen wasn't already broken before? But now...there was nothing human about him it would seem. His eyes showed no humanity, only a monster, and let loose a snarl as he tensed. But there was no slow movement, the Beast launched forward towards Fianna, on top of her seemingly in an instant. For a single second, a terrible roar erupted from the creature, a dome of electricity surrounding the Beast and Fianna, trying to catch her in it as divine lightning struck the ground them and hopefully her. But after a single second, the creature flickered and vanished, its hulking form flashing and seemingly trying to run Fianna over at the same time, its fur sparking, appearing a distance away from her storm of blades as he turned just as quick, preparing for his next assault.

Kill. And nothing else.

The words, how sweet they sounded when spoken by another. She knew that everything, the pressure and the expectations, had all been self-invoked. That she had placed herself under all of that pressure, under the expectation of others. Because she knew that, above everyone else, it had been the expectations that she had held for herself that had caused her the most dismay.
'Why couldn't I have been the prodigy my father was?'
'Why is it no matter how hard I strive I never feel accomplished?'
            'Why can't I do better?'
            'I need to improve.'
'I need to do better than other people.'
'If I do better, would father praise me?'
'I need to overcome this obstacle.'
'I won't let myself be beaten.'
'I can do better then this.'
'Why can't I do better than this?'
Ever self-critical of herself, she could spend nights laying in bed unable to sleep as her mind made it all but impossible to rest. Tormenting her by focusing on every single thing that occurred throughout the day that made her cringe or go "Why couldn't I have done X instead?". Causing her such stress that there were some days she couldn't sleep, and what days that she could under such duress was usually plagued by terrible and confusing dreams. Whether it was because of her insecurities, the stress of being a student studying, or simply trying to be a better fighter... Fianna knew that the source of all her problems, the cause of her worries, stress, and instability, lay with only one person.
            Herself.

Yet what could she have done? Walked away? Left Winhill to travel like Kalen? Or simply said she didn't give a ******** and done as she pleased? She couldn't imagine it. Not then and not now. Especially not now. There was too much on her shoulders now, and even the smallest sign of weakness could crush her. She had once heard her father speak the phrase: "Duty is heavy as a mountain, death is light as a feather."
She had not understood it then, but she did now.

It had only been the comfort of a familiar environment and the support of close friends, such as Kalen, Nyale, and Rem, that she had been able to keep herself together this long. Been able to bear the weight of the torture she had put herself under all of these years.
There was truth in his words, but they were a truth long since whispered into her ears, and as such they failed to make their mark upon the young girl. She had heard it all before. If not from Kalen, if not from him. she had heard it all from herself.
"What... would you know of family?" She jeered at Kalen, all the while asking herself the same very question. What did she know of family?

What did she know of a mother, whom showed little care or interest in her daughter. Enveloped in her work and her research, she only seemed interested or caring towards those who were of use towards her work. Further causing Fianna to feel inadequate.
What did she know of a father, beyond the man who was known as Winhill Garden's Headmaster? A man who would not allow himself, or her, the privilege of giving her preferential treatment or attention. Unwilling to give her praise less it seem he favored her above all other students. A man who saw not just Fianna as his child but everyone at Winhill Garden. With a desire to protect and educate them all, what made her anymore special than they? A child born from a naive infatuation in a marriage that was doomed not to last once both of their uses had been exhausted. She was special in name and blood only, but only just.
What did she know of a brother, of Kalen, who had was never there but from time to time. Never quite there when she needed him, or when she most wanted him. Who hadn't been able to save her when she was most desperate for his help. When she most wanted to be saved.
What did she know of a sister, of Rem and Nyale. Both whom had grown up in their happy, family homes. With loving, doting parents and siblings. What did she know of sisters who could not relate to what she had been put through, of her feelings of her own family.

"You keep talking, but all I hear is 'bark bark'" Fianna sneered, further prodding the man on. What did she know of family anymore than Kalen? To her surprise, just when she most thought that the man was likely to fall, he changed.

"You're finally taking this seriously," Fianna stated, watching as the man she once knew transformed into that of a beast. A wolf. If the pain from the blades that cut at her affected her, she showed no sign of recognition or reaction to it. Seeming immune to the pain yet bleeding all the same.
"You're taking this seriously, and yet... you escape even further from this situation..." She sounded disappointed, and looked semi-dejected.

She had seen the form once before, and from what she remembered of what she discussed with Kalen about it he had no recollections while in the form. He had dug himself even deeper into himself than what Fianna had within herself. At least she could call this a facet of her self. With Kalen... all that she could see was a wild, feral look in her eye. The look of an enraged beast, of a monster.
Fianna snorted. 'Well, I guess we're both monsters in a sense, aren't we?'
This was not Kalen. Or... perhaps it was. Perhaps this was Kalen, or rather just a part of him. The part of him that he fed his anger and his sadness, his misery and his despair. Yes, he was escaping, but he was also confronting her in a way he had not before. He was confronting her with his feelings at last, and charging her head on with them.

"Unfortunately, Kalen..." She said, dispersing the blades and drawing the mist back to her body, eyes trained on the wolf. In an instant Kalen was upon her, but the young girl was ready. She had charged forward just as he had, meeting the creature halfway through across the battlefield. As the beast howled, generating a dome of electricity that rained lightning down around them, Fianna lashed out with her newly reformed wings; slashing at the wolf's throat and thrusting into its chest to pierce its heart. The Wolf had made a mistake in trying to intimidate her by approaching her, and then leaving itself open. If it thought that she could be scared by something like this, then she was indeed a whole new different kind of "prey" for this creature. And after everything she had been through... she had no fear of death.
She stopped after they had crossed paths, same as he had after utilizing Flash, and turned to look back over her shoulder. To see whether she had struck the beast for dead, or if it still needed to be put down.

            "I don't want your feelings."

I'll do it little by little so,

only wish to crawl my tongue over it

The Wolf

The cut that Fianna made managed to strike the beast’s throat landed, but it moved just enough in the opposite direction that the wing aiming to strike its chest failed to connect. Electricity arched from the point where strike was made, lancing into Fianna’s body. The beast kept moving, despite being struck, and it turned towards Fianna. The throat had been torn open, but no blood escaped from the confines of the injury. Instead, the form seemed to pulse as lightning crackled, sealing the wound as if nothing had occurred. Its eyes continued to glower with unsuppressed and rabid emotion, wild and uncontained. It bore its fangs as it began to shine once more, a sheen of white and crackling gold moving across the fur and surface of its body.

And then once more, it charged. It seemed the creature was lacking in strategy, at least at first. It’s speed was still great, shaking the earth with each pounding step as it rushed towards Fianna. Its eyes glowered intently as its body tensed. Energy seemed to begin to gather at the back of its throat, though it would appear merely as if its body were shining once more. It wanted to clash once more it would seem.

Tragic Love of the Heavens

It was quiet in the back of Kalen’s mind.

While his body fought a battle against someone he’d held close to his heart, his mind seemed to get lost in the last words that he had heard her utter. "What... would you know of family?" Repeating over and over, posing the same dilemma it had for Fianna, little did he know. It swirled around him, constantly asking him for an answer to a question that he really didn’t know. What was family? The Nipals….the Laytos? His mother and siblings? Yes…they were his family but…they weren’t those that he could cry to. At least, most of them he couldn’t do that to. Holding so much, family to him was those that he could confess everything to. Those that held his heart and that he could and would do anything for. All his life he’d been trying to find those people while hiding his emotions so close to his chest. He never tried to cry, get angry, scream in frustration. But perhaps the answer had been right in front of him all this time?

Rem, his little sister in all but name, a girl that he’d fought with, laughed with, and grew up with. A girl of profound talent that would one day go on to lead UNITA after her mother passed down the title. Nyale, his best friend, a Sorceress that flew around to spread joy and make people think differently over people of her kind. A girl that hung around with him and kept him in check while he did the same for her. Robin…the older sister that he had never wanted but got anyway, someone that would beat some sense into him whenever he required it. An older sister he never wanted but knew that he needed. And then there was one more…

Fianna.

A girl he grew with, trained with, and could just connect with. An individual that he was so similar to and yet different in ways. And he understood her. Just as she could him. She was someone that he couldn’t imagine not having in his life, just like the other three but her…she was someone that was almost a reflection of himself. A reflection that he couldn’t help but love as life continued onward. He wished he’d had said something sooner. So maybe none of this could have ever happened. Instead he swallowed that emotion, fearing that rejection he’d felt in so many other family environments. Making up for it now…was just hard. And he doubted she’d even cared about him anymore. A girl that was now trapped, struggling within herself and her toil of emotions.

Just like himself.

Words from years ago managed to surface, blossoming to replace Fianna’s if only for a moment. "However, will without strength is meaningless. Those who cannot stand on their own merits cannot lead against the weight of the world. Thus, only one of you inherited his strength along with that will." The words of a Guardian Force. The words that continued to haunt Kalen. He had not been good enough to take on his family name. To be a Nipal. He was a Vicaria, a one of a kind thing of mediocrity. The only one in the world. He’d lacked the strength to take on that burden, not knowing how to gain that strength on his own. Shouldering burdens and weight seemed beyond him at that time…and he knew that he needed it. Thus, the reason he’d traveled.

To find a purpose in something and to find something that’d give him reason to harness such strength. But he did not desire his 'ancestors' strength. He wanted something that was his and his alone, something special that no other could take away from him even if he had to die to protect it. Something so special it gave him the strength of a hundred men and to continue carrying the burdens he bore. The memories that stung. The pains of others he kept on his shoulders. And he had. Those four…that was his reason. To support and protect those that made him who he was. Robin didn’t need him so much…but the others…he knew they struggled. It was why he couldn’t help but try and force down whatever pain…sadness…anger. Those he cared for didn’t need to see him like this. But of course, everyone had their own breaking point. This was his test. A testament towards if he was even capable of being that rock for Fianna.

The revelation itself came fully to him then. It was her fight. It was her struggle. And all he could do was love her, support her, and be there for whenever she needed his shoulder to latch onto in order to stand up and fight once more. She could push him away but he’d never go away. And thus was his answer clear. As Fianna’s words rang out once more, all he could think of was three words.

”You’re my family.”
