Allette found herself at a dead end. There was nowhere to go, no way to escape--nothing to do except to face her opponent. Slowly, she turned while steadying her breath. Her white blonde hair blew in the breeze, her grey eyes watching the approach of her opponent. She had never met a mutant she couldn't match and this girl wouldn't be any different.
She cleared her mind, reached out with her empathy to try to find the feeling of her opponent. It was a tactic she often used before she warped the world into their nightmare or their dream. It was easy to get lost in that haze, easy to sneak and knock them out. Or cut their throat. Whatever her Master wanted.
The blade came into her hand easily as she attempted to explore the feelings of the girl approaching.

Eli had been mostly focused on the clone that was hovering, unsure, outside the mansion. The one at Hofstra was settled in and sleeping, why this one had caught her attention, she was unsure. Since the one at the Institute hadn't been approached, and she didn't want it to mess up something so important acting on its own, she sent it to hide as she shifted her focus on the other clone.
Her clone was following someone down the street. She glanced down and saw her clone's hands in fists. Given she programed this one to patrol, not hard to guess why this one was giving chase then. And one of these days... she'd remember to give the clone a mask, dang it.
Taking over the clone as if it were herself, she turned towards the dead end. What Allette would see, facing her, is a young woman, about 18 looking, longish brown blond hair, bright blue eyes, and a decent fashion sense. pretty without being beautiful. She wasn't someone who would ever stand out in a crowd.
The emotions would feel a bit distant, as if at a remove, but confusion, frustration, a hint of anger and a hint of relief. Not really emotions that fit for chasing a criminal, unarmed, through the streets.
"Stop," she said firmly. No fear in her. "Turn yourself in to the cops." The words were somewhere between a command and a plea. A mask, blast it all, next time, a mask!

Allette felt the emotions, distant and almost distinctly metalic in nature. A hollow shell with empty echos of feelings. She'd experienced this before when she had practiced with Dyx. This girl was a multiplier, a cloner--they went by hundreds of names but it was all the same. This girl standing before her was only a replica of the girl she needed to reach.
She reached harder for the emotions that were faint there, searched for the ever present fear that the girl would think was dormant. Yes, dormant possibly but still there and still breathing like a monster in the dark.
Time to wake the monster.
The girl feared what everyone feared when it boiled down to it--being alone.
Allette bent her surroundings into something more moldable into a fearscape. There were walls, high and concrete that came up around them. The temperature dropped until it was chilly and grey out. The high sounds of laughter was just beyond the walls. Voices that were withheld from the girl, who was kept out in the dark grey land.
In this dark fearscape, Allette had hidden her presence. All of this was but an illusion in the girl, the drone's eyes. Allette could see both this shadow world and the real. All she had to do as let the girl immerse herself, get lost in her fear and then she'd do away with her.

Eli had put herself too much into the mind of this clone. Whatever was happening... She just hoped it wasn't like the fire all over again. Some vague part of her could keep a sense of her true self, and the other clones, but that part was distant, hard to reach. She felt the darkness as if it were true around her, a moist roiling in the air, making the small hairs on her arms stand on end.
She swallowed hard, hearing the laughter. Laughter and voices. Not talking to her... about her, maybe?
"Hello?" she called, voice trembling a bit. She could not say if it had been her, or the clone speaking; perhaps both. She had never experienced anything like this before, and had no clue what in the world was going on. Some small part of her pulled, protesting, demanding that she separate herself from the clone, but she wasn't certain she could. She felt as though she were trapped there, held. She hadn't felt anything like this at all, since developing her mutation.

The voices stopped at the girl's cautious hello. "What's she doing here?"
"Yeah, who invited her?"
"Why don't you just go away! You're not welcome here!" The voices were almost sing-song in nature but cruel and feminine, like highschool all over again. The voice would taunt the girl, grasp with manic hands any foothold in her subconcious that they could.
Alette glided closer to the girl. Her features were neither plan nor beautiful, unlike her own. Dyx had often said she had an "angelic" face. But her eyes were stone, had always been cold, unrelenting, and unforgiving. Two flat slabs of mistrust and anger, glaring out of a radiant face. He said it made her ugly, made her wicked.
Wicked.
She could feel the smile toying with the edges of her lips, she knew he was wrong. She strode forward the blade in her hand until she had gotten behind the girl. The blade hovered close to the girl's throat. One swift move would end her, and yet--
She wasn't done playing games yet.
Allette projected herself standing a few feet in front of the girl, gripping her stomach. Copious amounts of blood poured out. "Help me...." the voice was a whisper. "Why aren't you helping me?"

She heard the voices, and frowned. They didn't sound like Sarah, but... she turned away from them. She never stood up to her friends. She was brave enough to chase down a mugger, she was not brave enough to argue with her friends... but... She turned away, physically. Normally she left. She did not participate in bullying, and she would not be present for it. She had been on the outside, and she would never hurt anyone else that way.
Then, turning, she saw the girl, was it the one she had been chasing? Didn't matter; she was hurt. Eli rushed forward, feeling something bite into her neck, but the pain... it was nothing compared to what the other girl must be feeling. She would have ripped a strip of her shirt to make a bandage, but this was a clone, the material would just vanish. Instead she ran to her and lifted her, in a princess carry, as careful as she could, wishing she had bought burner phones for the clones. "I'm here, we'll get you help, I'll take you to the hospital. Do you have a cell?" she asked. "We need to call 911."

The knife sliced a thin line into the girl's neck as she rushed forward to help her shadow self.
Her shadow shelf pit out blood as the girl carried her. She pushed her power into those emotions, into the wall that appeared in front of the girl to stop her from moving. Walls all around, closing her in a small place where she would watch the girl in her arm bleed to death.
Shadow Allette gurgled blood. "It hurts, it hurts...put me down. I'm dying. God! I'm dying, please don't let me die." Her eyes, softer than the real Allette's looked up at the girl "You can't just let me die. Please, please, I want to live."
Allette smiled as she approached. Push the girl to the edge and then make her beg to kill her, to put her out of her pain.

She skidded to a stop, seeing the wall. Looking, turning, around she saw she was boxed in. The hows and why-fors made no sense, but she didn't have time to think about it. She knelt carefully, then sat, securing the girl in her lap. She held her tight, trying to apply pressure. "Here, let's keep pressure on it," she said, trying to keep her voice soothing. "Here, press down with your hands, I'll squeeze in. We seem to be... to be trapped for the moment. But if walls can appear that quickly, they can vanish. Help will come," she assured her. "Talk to me, stay with me. Talk to me, tell me about yourself." anything to distract the girl from her pain.

Shadow Allette coughed a little bit more, the blood flecks flying from her mouth. "You're wrong, there's no walls. Why won't you help me? My sister is waiting for me to come home. She's just a mile away, it's her birthday. There aren't any walls!" Shadow Allette sobs and blood oozes out faster.
Make her think she's crazy. As far as the girl would know, the walls were there--real, solid. Then she'd begin to question it, wonder why the girl thought there were no walls.
Shadow Allette cried harder, "Why won't you help me?" The blood came out faster. "Don't let me die, please don't let me die...." Her voice grew weaker, sputtering

"There are," she said softly. "I am trying. Stay with me," she coaxed. "Tell me about your sister?" she asked. Anything to keep her talking, keep her with her.
Eli pulled herself back the smallest bit, and found relief. She could breathe again. Half her attention on the clone that held the dying girl, she sent her closest clone to a payphone. The clone called 911, told them that there was a girl bleeding to death in an alleyway, please send help quick, then hung up and rushed there. Maybe the walls could be broken down from the other side.
Eli closed her real eyes to keep her attention split between the clone rushing to the aid, and the one whispering soothing nothings at the injured girl.

Allette felt it, a sharp flicker in the girl's mind--hope. She quelled the rising rage in herself and held tight to the illusion around them. She pushed the walls closer, upped the ante. She wanted to win this game, make this girl suffer.
Shadow Allette coughed again, "She's, she's seven." Her skin turned paler and her body temperature dipped. "She likes ponies, and she's so ex-excited abut the cake. It's--it's..." Blood gargles out of her throat.
"Why won't you help me? Why do you want me to-to die?" A half gurgling noise comes from her throat. "Abi--Abiga..." Her voice falters, her lips move to shape words then stop, blood comes out of her mouth and nose. Her body goes limp.
The real Allette approaches, standing behind them--waiting to see the girl's reaction.

"No... no no... stay with me," she whispered softly. She swallowed when there was no reply, tears running down her face. She reached, carefully, to check her neck for a pulse. Finding none she settled herself more carefully and cradled the corpse. "The cops are coming," she whispered to it. "They'll find out who did this to you," she assured it. "They will. And I'll bring your sister the best gift, I'll figure something out." she looked up. "If there is a heaven, safe and speedy trip. Even if you're no longer here, I'll wait with your corpse for the cops," she whispered. "Even in death, you do not have to be alone." she closed her eyes and looked down again, letting tears flow softly. She had not saved this one, could not save this one, but... she believed in the authorities. They could and would. She just really hoped... her face wouldn't be on the news....

Things were not going as planned. The girl should be desolate, broken...blaming herself and yet she was so calm. It was time to up the ante.
Shadow Allette's eyes flew open, her skin as cold as ice and just as pale. Her fingers reaching up for the girl's neck and wrapping long delicate fingers around it. The walls disappeared and everything was a flat misty wasteland. Fog and cold rolled across the area
Allette, still invisible to the girl, leaned down to the girl's ears. "I will figure you out. I will make you live your worst fears and when you are begging for it to stop, I will kill you. I'll rip your pretty little throat out. Ask yourself why, ask it all you want. But you'll never understand. I'll do it because I can."
She pulled away the illusions like you'd pull a rug from under someone's feet, wrapping herself in illusion she walked away.

Eli had started when the corpse came back to life, wrapping fingers around her neck, but when the voice started to speak something stilled within her. Anger then. She got up and left, refusing to be there when the cops arrived. She sent her other clone away as well. Back in the hotel room, she was angry. She couldn't recall ever having been so angry before. All the time she'd been hiding her mutant power while using it to help others and now... now that she was close to what was supposed to be a safe place... now for the first time, she fell victim to a mutant attack? More than that, it was bullying. Plain and simple. She had decided she would never, ever suffer through that again.
Determination filled her and she sent both clones off, leaving the hotel room. She was going to march up to that school, demand to be allowed to do the paperwork, and she would move in at once. These things had only ever happened to her before she had friends, when she had been a kid. She would not be bullied again. It was time... to make some new friends.
