Fighter || Aria || Exorcist || Exwire Hours passed and Victor's sight began to fade in and out. The road to Kyoto was a long one and not one to take lightly when riding at night. The road twisted and hugged mountains, rising and falling every so often. In the faint moonlight, only the small headlight of a chugging motorcycle lit the road. Victor glanced down at his arms and knew that he could not go on as he was so he took the sleeves of his shirt and began to rip them from it. Wrapping one forearm at a time, Victor more or less, bandaged the bleeding punctures but didn't do much for the bleeding. He had attempted to cover the holes with his Qi like before but it appeared that he was cut off from his supply as if he was drained to nothing. Within an hour of driving with bandaged arms, Victor realized he had lost too much blood but wasn't very far from the city. The coming bend revealed a mountain with a peak that he recognized. It was Mount Kurama coming closer and that meant that Kyoto wasn't much further south from where he was traveling from. Traffic increased and lights began to become more present as he closed in on civilization. There was a dizziness that was setting in and the lights that passed by dazed Victor without warning. Suddenly, the motorcycle underneath Victor began to wiggle and before long, it began to wobble more and more furiously. Victor's eyes closed as an incoming vehicle sped up the incline but it swerved out of Victor's way but not without letting out the horn heavily. The motorcycle then leaned to the right with Victor's unconscious body and slammed against the guard rails, sending Victor up and over into the forest. The motorcycle rode the guard rails down the slope until a bend in the road directed it straight into the mountain where it crashed. The drop over the edge was steep but curved upwards with the mountain so Victor didn't have far to tumble before the mountain would slow him down. He broke small trees along the way but larger trees broke him instead. Ribs gave way and limbs twisted in unnatural ways but Victor was already in a critical state, keeping him from suffering the pain currently. When the slope leveled out and his tumbling came to an end, Victor lied motionless. Sounds of crickets chirping and a breeze moving through the tallest branches of the forest gave sign that Victor was in a place that didn't care if he lived or died. Suddenly, a beating sounded over Victor, alike that of a drum yet ferocious. It was faint at first but with every second, it became louder until the moon's filtered light was blocked by a shadow that bore wings. It came over Victor, hulking in comparison.
There was darkness and a voice echoed in it's midst. Victor could feel the voice as if it was tangible, a force that filled the darkness like the sound wave itself. At first, Victor couldn't recognize the words being said but as the place became brighter, he could distinguish what was being said. To die with his own hands rather than the hands of an opponent is the work of a coward, and he doesn’t deserve your tears or anyone else for that matter Victor moved in the direction of the words as they came and found himself moving closer to a light alike a doorway leading into a room. That’s the way it goes; a man who can’t fight until the very end is nothing more than a waste of air Victor could hear who was speaking as he reached the doorway. Stepping through, he was suddenly in a living room. It was a small yet comfrotable room filled with a golden light created by candles and orange painted walls. There was a woman who was crying on the floor, hunched over the couch and a man who stood over her. The man didn't look familiar but the woman Victor knew as his mother. As Victor walked and tried to comfort his mother, he felt frozen. He tried to take a step forward but was paralyzed. The man looked to be speaking down to her. If you’re hurt so bad, I’ll put you out of your misery now He continued. Victor felt a rage welling up inside of him but his immobility made him feel a dreading helplessness. Suddenly, the man began to step away from his mother and walked to the other side of the living room, heading out. You’re not even worth killing, foolish little girl. He said before turning around to look over his shoulder. If you wish to kill me one day, foster your hatred and despise me. Surviving in such an unsightly manner as this, by all means flee, and cling to your unreached life; seeing how that’s all you have left The man spoke but didn't have a face. Victor didn't need to see his face to know who he was and as the sorrow began to fill him, the sound of a baby crying began to fill the room as if feeling the same sadness. Victor turned to look at where the crying was coming from and saw a small cradle nestled by the kitchen. He realized that the child was himself and when he did, flames began to rise from the cradle as it began to swing side to side. Fire then began to envelope Victor as well from his feet up. The burning was familiar but the intensity rose higher than bearable. Soon, all he knew was the pain and yet not a sound could come from his mouth, no matter how hard he tried to yell.

Fighter || Aria || Exorcist || Exwire The tree line opened up to reveal a shooting star or so it appeared. A yellow orb of energy soared out into a clearing that turned out to be a cliff that over looked the country side in the distance. Victor seemed to appear out of thin air, heaving a bit and sweating enough to show that he had been struggling to keep up behind the signature. Once he had caught up with the orb, he saw that the cliff had been mostly untouched by man. There wasn't a trail that led back from where he had come so it was safe to say that they would be undisturbed. Victor approached the orb and began to speak. “Well, what now, Sensei?” He asked. Suddenly, the orb began to shake and Sojobo appeared before him. Victor couldn't feel his Qi signature and he didn't know if it was because it covered the entire area or if because he wasn't truly there. The rain didn't seem to be hitting his master but Victor being soaked as he was, wasn't getting any drier. “Sit here and meditate. Feel the life around you and realize where it draws it strength.” With that, the ancient man disappeared and there was nothing left. Victor sighed and sat down, crossing his legs. He knew that it could be a long time before he reached the level of strength he was looking for but he was sure that the man held power to command the hundreds of demons trained for battle. As Victor situated himself, he could not help but notice the peace that seemed to flow from the mountain. There, in the midst of the wilderness, one could almost forget their past and future, almost. Closing his eyes, Victor drew in the Qi signatures of the wildlife around him as he took in his oxygen. His body was holding up well under stress but his Qi wasn't flowing like it was before. Victor didn't know if Sojobo knew this but there wasn't much room for discussion. As Victor attempted to force out his Qi it was manipulated into a field around Victor. He kept reinforcing it with Qi, covering it layers. Over time, a warm began to settle inside of the barrier, comforting Victor when suddenly the barrier began to tremble. Victor began to lose control of the barrier integrity and before it exploded, Victor sent it into the ground where it spread out evenly. It was exhausting but also frustrating. Why is this happening? Victor thought. His eyebrows furrowed with frustration as he began to gather his Qi again but just as he expanded it, it would fade away and refuse to hold together. Taking a deep breath, Victor began to try and relax. He shook his head as if shaking away his stress and lowered his shoulders as he rested his arms on his legs. Victor slowly sensed the Qi that flowed from nearby trees and insects. He tried to focus on the way it flowed from the roots to the tree and it's dispersal. It was such a slow process that it was nearly mistaken for stillness but as Victor waited and watched, it crawled on, carrying it's life force through. Victor meditated on what Sojobo asked him to do. Where they draw strength? The light rain covered Victor from head to toe and after a few more minutes, he removed his shirt and pants. He didn't care much for who might see him, Victor was confident that he was hidden on the mountain. Doffing the clothes helped him remove a distraction that the rain was making full use of.
As time went by, Victor was warmed by the sun which peaked in a few times through the rain clouds but when it seemed that he would find some relief from the rain, it didn't stop. He attempted to recreate his barrier around himself, thinking that perhaps now he was at a better state to control his Qi but after a few layers and minutes of holding up the barrier, it fell apart on him once more. A sigh of disappointment came from him as he remembered the things he had seen in his near death experience. It had all seemed surreal and yet purposeful. Victor had assumed that things would be clear and doors would open up for him wherever he went but it seemed that things only became more difficult. It was true that he had managed to enter training but only to be found lacking previous strength made things worse. Maybe, it's that exhaustion of Qi. Something about opening that gate had gone wrong and hurt something on the inside. Victor thought, opening his eyes. He looked over the cliff and out to the houses that sat on the hills. Rice fields could be seen surrounding the houses and some of them gave off a smoke that meant it was around lunch time. Victor's stomach growled in response to the thought and even the idea of being cooped up in a warm bed with a bowl of rice and beef relaxed him, but he knew that there was nothing like that waiting for him back where he had come from. All that he could do was look onward and keep pushing the envelope. The Agency was surely looking for him now and all that he could do then was enter their custody if he returned to the city. Victor didn't want that, however. He didn't want to be held down to once place and told where to be and how to be. Things had been upset in him and there was but a handful of things that could set it all right again. Closing his eyes, Victor began to breath deeply once more. He examined the Qi within the trees and more particularly, a flower. It had a simple yet balanced flow within it's body, surely a process involving Mana and Qi but at such a small level, it could even be said that it was alive.

Fighter || Aria || Exorcist || Exwire As time went by, Victor was unaware of the looming clouds that rolled towards him from across the valley. They moved over the fields that sat just out from under the mountain. Victor's breathing had brought him into a state of peace, almost unconscious yet alert to the life around him. His insight into the simple qi systems of the life forms around him had given him a sort of revelation. Opening his eyes and looking to a caterpillar crawling up a plant's stem, Victor watched curiously. It was not something uncommon but the very connection between the realm of qi and the realm of the physical was not something so emphasized. As the caterpillar bit into one of the plant's leaves, Victor could sense the plant's qi enter the caterpillar's body. Have you found the answer? Sojobo's voice sounded in Victor's ears. He didn't flinch or look around since he had figured out by then that the mountain itself was watched by the hermit. “Yes” Victor said. “We feed of the energy of another. We can't be self sustaining. To take away a link from this chain would be to unravel the whole thing.” Victor said before thunder drummed close by. Victor looked out from the cliff to see the clouds nearly at the mountain and the heavier rain that it was showering on the fields below. Even though Victor was already wet and unclothed save for his underpants, he hoped that his teacher wasn't about to hold him out in the rain longer. You have found some meager piece of tranquility, this I can see. The rest will have to come with time. Sojobo said to Victor who now got to his feet. He could sense bodies of qi heading to his position from the treetops. They were numerous and moved together which meant that they were there for him. He faced the forest, now darkened by the thunderclouds as lightning flashed over head. Now, you must fight. Victor tensed at his teacher's words and took a stance. He could feel the qi signatures stop right before they reached the clearing his was standing in. The rain picked up and started to fall more heavily now. A flash of lightning then revealed the demons hiding in the trees, looking on. Victor had faced the demons already but he knew that he would be fighting them periodically as long as he was training with their leader. The crack of thunder that followed the flash of lightning seemed to signal the assault as the dark winged demons flocked from the trees and into the clearing. They held out swords, knaves, staffs and all sorts of weapons reminiscent of ancient times. They came all at once and looked to swarm Victor but he wasn't about to let them. The first that came at him were not disarmed but simply pummeled to the side. Victor, unburdened by clothes or equipment sped up to meet the Tengu before they could swing at him. Many would raise their weapons against him but the tanned man would strike them but once, sending them away as quickly as they came. He zig-zagged a line in their numbers, furnishing his speed over theirs'. Their numbers were bolstered, however, and Victor's charge slowed. He was held to one area, parrying and countering the incoming weaponry until he was nearly overwhelmed. Do you think yourself above using a weapon? Take up arms. Sojobo spoke as if he could see what was happening. Victor grabbed a staff that was being jabbed into his abdomen and kicked it's handler, taking it from him. A wild spin of the staff that started from the middle of his back to being held out in front of him toppled the Tengu immediately around him. The rest then began to fill in after wards only to find that it was harder to come close. Victor would quickly jab and spin. He would hug close to the ground, sweeping his enemies, and slam the staff down, batting them away. The wooden staff would bend and flex but only the demon's shouted and grimaced in pain. As the Tengu around him dwindled, more came down from above. Victor pointed the staff up and deflected their attacks as they flew at him. He was pushed back to the cliff by the flying demons and once Victor realized he was at the edge. He put one end of the staff on the ground and catapulted himself over the masses of Tengu and further inland. Victor had lost his staff but the first Tengu to attack him again had given him a mace. He had grabbed hold of the mace by the demon's hand with one hand and placed his other hand against the demon's chest. The demon was then separated from the weapon violently by being sent in the other direction as if pushed by a rogue gust of wind. Victor held the mace up by one hand while keeping his other hand free for parries. The mace was unrelenting against their blades and armor, thudding with every strike. It might as well have been made of aluminum in Victor's hands by the way he swung it. He handled it alike a chinese sword, which showed how much practice he had with a mace but it served him well. The place had darkened and it was difficult to see except for a few flashes here and there. Mud began to come from the ground that was being trampled at the clearing but the sound of metal striking metal was well heard through out. As time went on, Victor could feel his anger try and surface once more but he knew that Sojobo had warned him of that and he didn't want to be moving backwards anymore. He leaped up into the trees in order to distance himself from the flock and catch his breath. The Tengu followed him up into the trees but didn't let up. They came at him as soon as they could catch up to him but Victor kept moving. Stepping off a tree branch, Victor lifted the mace, blocking a sword, then brought the mace back down on the demon's weapon shoulder which also sent him to the dark forest floor below. He didn't stop as he moved from branch to branch but the Tengu had an advantage. They flew up and out of the tree line and cut him off so by the time Victor reached them, arrows were in the air. At the last minute, Victor threw a sphere barrier around himself in midair, deflecting the arrows that were shot at him but he missed the next branch over. Victor found himself traveling down to the forest floor, protected by the barrier but not from the following demons.

Fighter || Aria || Exorcist || Exwire Victor rose to his feet from where he had fallen and looked up to see shadows coming down to the forest floor as well. It was too dark too see but Victor could feel the Tengu closing in on him from the shadows. Their Qi signatures swelled around him but didn't slow for a moment. Victor's eyes began to glow faintly for a second before they became illuminated and Qi shot out from them. He turned his head so the beam of energy cut across the area, striking some of the demons closer to him. The rain was heavy and the sound of it's water drops hitting the ground made it hard to hear all of the fighting going on. Victor had begun to incorporate Qi into his attacks, sending his foes away with punches backed with energy. If he felt that he was being overwhelmed, he would make some distance with a Qi blast. Arrows began to fly down from the trees as Victor continued moving and fending off the demons. He created a circular barrier over his left forearm, best described as a shield. Disarming one of the demons had given him a sword to go along with it. He once again leaped into the heights of the tree branches and managed to keep the arrows from his body using both the sword and his shield. Victor could sense where the arrows were coming from but whenever he got closer, they would move someplace else. Stopping on one of the tree branches, he fought off the incoming demons and their weapons before a volley of arrows was sent again. This time, too preoccupied by the attackers, he was slow to defend against the arrows and was struck by one in his side. This brought a pang of anger as the pain jabbed at him sharply. His fighting became more erratic and it was showing in the way that he swung the sword and abandoned the shield. The numbers began to overwhelm him again and it was harder to see a way out under all the pouring rain. Sojobo could see this and knew what he was doing. “O' source of all power, light which burns beyond crimson! Let thy power gather within me!” Victor's usual orange Qi signature began to dissipate from around him and a red aura began to blanket him and flow from within him. A roar lost in the sound of the rain came from withing Victor as he dropped the sword but didn't stop fighting. His fingernails bore claws and his teeth grew like that of a predator. The color of his Qi was bright enough for any competent person to see and the demons around him seemed to notice as they heightened the rate of their attack. Victor tore into them, throwing himself where he saw them most. The rain sizzled as it touched Victor's red hot skin and soon only steam rose from his body. His anger fueled this side of him although a well versed fighter could see that it was the effects of the third dragon gate. The demon's weapons seemed obsolete as Victor would break and bend through them to get to their wielders. The claws on his hands cut deep into the Tengu, past their armor and would catch fire from the heat of the attack. His anger began to soar out of control as Victor saw that he could not reach the archers. He stood at the base of a tree and began to hack at it, turning side to side as he slashed back and forth. The Tengu would come and try to stop him but he would slash them too. The tree's trunk burned from the heat coming from his claws and finally gave way. Cleaving through a few enemies in motion, Victor placed himself under the tree's fall path and caught it over his head. He growled as more arrows pelted him from above but barely made it past the tree. He then threw the tree directly to the area of perched archers. The tree crashed into the other trees, knocking some of the Tengu down and scattering the others. The oncoming Tengu had seemed to stop and gathered above him in the thunderous sky. Victor looked up and could sense them regrouping. Not caring to wait for them to return, he jumped up and took hold of a tree and climbed it using his claws, bounding upwards until he reached the most narrow branches. At the top, he could see the thunderstorm covering a great area, blocking out the sun but he could still make out the Tengu who had then spotted him. Pulling back on the treetop, he clawed back as far as he could on the trunk before letting go. He was shot out into the sky like a slingshot. As he began to reach the demons, he began to do a barrel roll with his claws out in front of him. Like a drill, he entered their numbers until he began to swat them out of the sky while stepping off some of their winged backs. They flocked like birds around him, trying to get a shot at him only to get shot to the ground with a kick or a claw. Their numbers began to dwindle under Victor's new found strength. They could no longer hold him down among many because of his heated skin or his multiplied strength. All the Tengu could manage were cuts and bruises on the rampant man. Taking a ride on one of the Tengu's back, he wrapped his arms under it's arms and put it in a head lock. Before long, the demon began to burn at the skin contact from the nearly naked man and flew in panic, being driven up into the clouds. Lightning traveled around and between the flock of Tengu that followed Victor upwards. He finally let go of the demon and began to fall. He created a barrier from which to grab onto, a vertical wall of sorts which he gripped onto but suddenly used as a platform to dive from. He dove right into the incoming pillar of demons and took them down with him with a number of slashes and grabs that made a sort of demon pillow underneath him as they neared the treetops. Victor took hold of one of the tree branches at the top of the trees as the wounded bodies of the Tengu fell past him and into the forest floor. The steam rising from the top of the tree he was on was a clear indicator of his location but as Victor looked around for more of them, it seemed that they were retreating into the shadows they had come from.

Fighter || Aria || Exorcist || Exwire A figure appeared from out of thin air, before Victor. It was large and the rain seemed to shrink away from it before ever touching him or his clothes. “You have awakened a stronger form of yourself. I have an understanding that this knowledge you received came from others like you.” Sojobo spoke out to Victor who still gave off steam. He looked more like an animal in that form, nearly nude and morphed. His anger had dissipated at the voice of his teacher but his power had not. Victor knew about the seven Dragon Gates from his training with the Academy but further insight came from research into their archives to reveal their detailed effects and the forbidden limits of those powers. “Nonetheless, I will treat you as a new born barely learning to walk. There is much that has been kept from you. I can see it in the way you fight.” He said, looking down to Victor. Flashes of lightning lit up the old man from time to time but the thunder and the rain failed to make an effect on him or his voice. Victor bowed to the demon lord, not having much to say in return. Even though he felt that all the training in his life had him eons ahead of other fighters, he had called upon Sojobo for secrets that he might have to share with him. “Return to the chamber I have given you and rest. Tomorrow you learn to walk.” Sojobo said and like a flash of lightning, he had vanished, one moment there and the other, not. Victor looked up from his bowed position and noticed that he was alone. He looked at his palm and the claws that stretched from his fingertips. Victor closed his eyes and opened them again after a moment to watch the fingernails retreat into his fingers and his skin cool from it's reddened color. Suddenly, he wrapped his arms around himself and began walking up the mountain. Victor was cold and unclothed but a warm room awaited him at the temple. He erected a sphere barrier around himself in hopes of stopping the cold rain from reaching him and to insulate him a bit from the winds that swept through the forest. Although his body felt heavy and weary, his mind was strangely at ease. His training kept the demons from touching his heart and mind with evil. He had spoken as revenge as being his goal but in truth, he didn't feel any hatred anymore. Victor knew that there were people and events that needed to be stopped but he wasn't so selfishly inclined as he thought he was. Kids from all over the world will be sent there. They will be taught to kill demons but then turned loose on each other. There has to be a mistake somewhere, a lack in communication. How could the Vatican allow this to be happening? Do they even know? Victor thought as he traveled up the mountain. He was barefoot, his feet sinking into the wet soil and grass as he walked. It was hard to see any sort of path with the raging thunderstorm overhead but he had remembered the way he had come and the quickest way to the temple was up the mountain. The wind made it loud in the swaying trees and the thunder only added to that effect, making it hard to hear anything else. It reminded Victor of his motorcycle, now most likely taken by someone passing by. It had surely incurred enough damage to make it undesirable but Victor could only imagine where it was and in what state it was in. The longer he left it out on it's own, the worse it would get and this bothered him. It was something he had to let go of, among other things. His predecessors had most likely sent for him but didn't know to look for him on the mountain. It was as if he had fallen off the face of the earth but only truly hiding underneath their noses. Victor knew that Kyoto wasn't far from there and that he could somehow return to the United States but he didn't see a future there, not any more. He was so affixed on finding justice for the hidden world of exorcists than finding his way back home. Home Victor thought, remembering the movie theaters and the concert halls. Images of the inside of restaurants and busy streets came to mind, not all to different from Japan but enough to distinguish. He remembered all of the muscle cars and motorcycles he could see and the blonde girls that liked to ride in them. An image of Alexandria came to mind and Victor slowed his pace. He stopped walking for a moment to look out at the dark forest being covered in water. The visions of a smile and laughter shared came to Victor like a forgotten dream. Victor's gaze had fallen on the ground now, unmoving. Why? Was all he could ask. He wondered why things had to happen the way they did and if there could have been anything to prevent the final result. Even though Victor tried, he couldn't forget her scent and the warmth of her body against his. Clenching his fist, Victor suddenly started to press onward. After a few moments, he began to run. The running pace turned into a sprint as if he was fleeing from something that he could not run away from. The temple lights came into view not too far away and the promise of shelter and food was near. Even after all that had happened, Victor was famished and would eat anything thrown out for dogs.

Fighter || Aria || Exorcist || Exwire Cars rolled by on the highway as the storm continued above. The trees swayed with the wind, rustling with the sound of falling rain. A flash of lightning revealed the top of the trees and one looked more misshapen than the others. There was Victor, clutched to the top of the tree, holding as he swayed along with it. The headlights of the cars marked the highway and thus what he had come looking for. He hopped forward and let himself fall onto a branch just below him before slipping down only to grab onto it. Swinging once, he flung himself out to the road. Turning slowly backwards, head over feet, he fell towards the highway. He suddenly landed atop the bed of a cargo truck. It was one of many passing by but this one seemed to be transporting produce. The driver continued on his route, dismissing the sound of Victor's landing as another strike of thunder. Victor stayed low on the truck but looked around at the other cars around him. There wasn't a sign of an accident anywhere or a recent crash until he spotted the color orange. There had been posts and tape set around the side of the highway, marking an accident scene or an area under construction. That has to be it. Victor thought to himself, readying himself for the jump. At the arrival to that particular closed area, he bounded out and sprawled himself over the pavement, skidding to a stop at the cost of some of his shoe rubber soles. Peering over the edge of the highway, he could see cones placed in a trail that led towards the inside of the forest but only a short ways. Following them in, he saw a tree that seemed to have been struck hard by something. Flattened grass, carved up ground and missing bark marked an impact of a vehicle, his motorcycle. It was long gone now, Victor realized, most likely in some impound lot downtown or a scrapyard depending on the damage. Victor crouched down and put a hand on the tree's base. It felt like he had died there and now he only wandered and the events previous to his crash had only been a nightmare. Combing his soaked hair back with one hand, he stood to his feet and wiped his face of water before looking back the way he had come. A few quick steps took him back up to the highway where he began heading against the flow of traffic and towards the city. After ten minutes, someone spotted his bright colored shirt and pulled over ahead of him. Victor walked up to the car shortly after and saw that it was a middle aged man, wearing a suit and driving a sedan. “Do you need a ride?” The man asked him. Victor crouched a little to take a better look at the inside of the man's car before he looked back at him and grinned.
