Bwahaha. I've been engaged to TheMysteriousJ since 2008. The sudden part is we're looking at J getting his PhD mid 2015 and so when he's applying for jobs this fall, I need to be on the potential employers' radar as his future spouse (read: "do you guys offer housing/insurance/etc. with spouses of employed persons in mind?")
...and that we're just over a year and two weeks out now from the wedding date, so I have to actually start planning in earnest. Although we decided years ago that we were interested in marrying each other "eventually", that is now a timeframe located within the relatively near future.
lol. Smooth. When I was dating my (now) spouse, we had that "eventually" date too but we didn't go with the huge 5-layer cake, 3-layer dress, 500-people wedding deal. We ended up doing it simple because we had to fund the whole thing ourselves. Don't get yourself and your future spouse into debt just to have the wedding. I've heard horror stories about how badly in debt some people get for that one day....
sweatdrop Well, personally, I am glad that you didn't just decide to do a shotgun wedding. Those are also poorly thought out, or not thought out at all for some cases.
Have fun trying to plan that out.
smile Don't stress too much. It is just a day. You should be worrying about the days after (that apartment searching and whatnot) because it gets interesting trying to intimately look out for someone's wellbeing because their wellbeing depends on your choices, since you are so physically and emotionally close [same house, same household income, same household issues].
