Hazel's, like, whatever man. She might care. She might have better things to do, like wash her cat, but either way, if your wasting her time, she doesn't have words for you. Just leave and come back later. She only has time for puzzles and novels--especially romance novels. This girl goes nuts for fairy tale romance, soap operas, etc. She just wants to have the charm and desire and unconditional love of one of the main characters, and if you can't dig it, gtfo (please). Sometimes Hazel believes she's better than everyone. In fact, most often, she does, which leads to her coming off as narcissistic and egocentric, but it's not your problem so kindly gtfo.
Her insecurities about her chances of finding love drive her to act pretentiousness as a shield against rejection. She just doesn't want pain. She wants to stay safe and coddled in her imaginary world where she's always right and everyone loves her. However, when she thinks about her missing father or her weirdo mom, she knows this isn't the case. Regardless, she can be quite the optimist, and when hope's lost, she's an advocate for love and persistence overcoming all.
When Hazel meets someone, she's often mellow and polite, and any resentment she feels toward those who waste her time is hidden unless they keep pestering her. Then she avoids them. She shuts the windows. She locks the door. If she likes someone, however, she'll overestimate her successes and abilities because she wants them to think she's lovely.
That noted, Hazel's practice in self-indulgence has given her a way with compliments. She knows how to intrigue and charm, and she seeks to warm the hearts of those who impress her. Really she wants to surround herself with outstanding people so she can support her facade of greatness. Truly, though, she feels no amount of pretending will change her fear of being alone.
If Hazel deems someone worth her time, she will curl up to them and cling and shout "LOVE ME LOVE ME" (essentially).
