Lialda looked to Darek’s mother as she began speaking and telling her the truth of her bond with Darek. With the way she was speaking about it, even though it had been a rather simple thing to her when she had first met him, it seemed that there was much more to it than she had originally thought. When she asked for her to sit with them, she nodded and obliged, taking a seat in front of them. She was curious about what she had to share, but part of her was concerned. She didn't know why she felt this way, but she knew that things wouldn't be the same after she heard what his Mother had to tell her. Lialda listened intently and hung on to every words that she spoke, with every sentence becoming more drawn in to the story.
It was a story about how dragons had once ruled over the earth, much like how she dreamed they would. But, knowing the result of the past prepared her for what would be said next. At how when humans grew in numbers, that it would mean the decline of the dragons. Her expression would sadden for the loss of so many dragons that did not deserve to meet such an end as they had. For it was by devouring the dragon's flesh that humans had gained their advantage. To even think of doing such a thing made her feel sick and as a result, she grasped Darek's hand within her own. The story that was being told was bothering her to think about all the dragons that had been killed. But then, the story began to shift. That a young girl who had been borne of a Warlord who had fed off of the flesh of a dragon, wanted to bring peace to them all. It sounded similar to her own situation being born the daughter of a King who hunted dragons, but all she wanted was peace between them. She continued to listen, wanting to know how far the girl would go and if she would succeed. Even going ahead to protect a dragon nest from her Father and fighting off so many trained soldiers. She knew for a fact that she was no where near that strong. The only strength that she possessed was her magic. She had tried to learn how to fight, but was always stopped because she was the Princess.
In the end though, the woman had fell, but had been saved by the Mother dragon who had trusted one of her eggs to the girl. Hearing of the bond that the newborn dragon and the girl would have, made her smile knowing that it was very possible for them to get along. Listening further, she found out that the girl and the dragon had to face her Father and at the mention of the girl falling to her own Father's sword, Lialda's hand went up to her own chest, almost feeling it herself. And what Vætta had done for the woman he cared about was shocking, but at the same time, she looked up at Darek knowing that he had done the same thing when they had first met. She found it touching, but then came the price for doing such a thing. That Vætta would age at the same rate as a human while she would live for longer. And to know that they had done a similar thing, her hand went up to the gem that was around her neck and she turned to Darek, "So you..."
The story continued on how the two had lived out the rest of their days and how her powers had been split out around her children and the land. Only to be reborn again in her. Looking down at her hand, it was hard to believe that she was a descendant of such a wonderful woman. Then Darek's Mother continued to explain that the reason why she told her this story was so she would understand the weight of what Darek had truly done for her. She looked up at Darek with a sadness in her eyes, holding onto his hand firmly before she turned to his Mother, "T-Thank you for telling me this. I had no idea...but if this is the case, I will do everything I can to make sure that we succeed." Her grip on his hand increased as her mind went to the thought of losing him because of his aging, "I want Darek, you and all of the dragons to live in peace again and not hide from humans. Even if I must follow the same path as my ancestor and give my very life to do so, I will. But, I won't throw away my life so easily, because I want to live with Darek for the rest of our days together."
To her, knowing that her time with Darek could very well be shorter than she had thought, she didn't want to waste a single day. "Darek...you have given up much for me, so I can do no less for you..." She then turned to Darek's mother with a serious look of determination in her eyes, "I do have a question for you. Since Darek was able to give a piece of himself to me, is it possible in the reverse? Since my powers originally come from dragons, then shouldn't it be possible for me to do so?"

Evian looked down and smiled at Lialda. "You need not worry about that. True, your bond is similar to that of your ancestor's but, it is not the same. What Vætta did was out of desperation and because of that he poured much more of his spirit into the stone then was required for the bond. Their bond was not quite as balanced as the one you now share. Yes, Darek will live a far shorter life then a normal dragon but, at the same time he will live far longer then a human. The bond you two share has created an equilibrium between your life force. You have yet to feel the effects yet because you are still young but, as time goes on, you will be able to notice how slowly you age compared to the people around you. There is no need for you to give up any of your power to him but, to answer your question, yes. Seeing as you are both dragon-kin you would be able to transfer a portion of your power to him. However, it is far more complicated for a human to do so and dragons are taught how from birth how to do it and you do not have the methods available to you to do so. For now you should turn your attention to more pressing matters like your father. Darek how have you fared with this king of men?"
Darek watched his mother as she spoke and was not surprised to hear Lialda's suggestion. When his mother finally addressed him directly he simply smiled. "Thanks to an unfortunate clash between myself and a lowly man that wished to pose as a suitor, I was able to gain good ground with the king. As much as I wish I did not wish to put Lialda through what he tried to do to her. The event allowed me to prove myself before the king in a way that I never could otherwise. Though I have made more progress then I expected to make so soon, there is still much more that must be done. I expect that the king may announce the wedding date soon. I cannot be sure about it though. He could be apprehensive and wish to delay how much time he can still claim her as his or he could wish to have it done quickly out of fear that one of us might back out on it. Either way, I have little influence left to me without drawing much attention. I will know more once we return to the castle. I suspect that we will be dinning with the king tonight and I can get a better feel for the situation then."

Lialda found herself to be relieved at Evian's words, knowing that by her childish wish that she would condemn someone that she cared about. It gave her peace of mind to know that he would be okay and that if anything happened, they would have the connection to do something. While at the moment, there were more pressing matters, she knew that she would ask for Darek's help in learning how to deepen their connection. As she asked Darek about her Father, she knew that her Father was probably making plans for the wedding, but the man was still to unpredictable for her to give an accurate assumption. "Please forgive my Father though, while he is King and has his responsibilities, I know that his hesitations come from his fear of losing me. From what happened before...it no doubt shook him and reminded him of what happened to my Mother many years ago. She had been brutally murdered inside of the castle and to this day, the culprit was never found. He sees Mother a lot in me, especially lately. At times, he would say her name to me rather than my own. Father is a good man, but since her Death, his decisions are clouded and in desperation, he will believe anything."
She sighed softly before she continued with a gentle smile on her face, "But I know Darek and I will make it through to the wedding. It is most certainly not easy, but all we can do is take it a day at a time." She looked to Darek and a light came to her cheeks while she smiled, "With Renard gone, at dinner I can help in persuading Father as well. I feel safer now that he is gone and I don't have to look over my shoulder anymore in my own castle," She then turned back to Darek's Mother and gave the woman a gentle smile, "I do want to thank you for telling me that story, it puts together some of the pieces that had been missing from the history of my family. I may not be as strong as my ancestor, but I want to do all I can and more to help bring peace to both our worlds. The first step is getting married, then after, I would like to start opening up peace treaties to at least get the talks between our people started." Holding onto Darek's hand, "After all, we are not the first to prove that dragons and humans can live together in peace. I want there to be no more fear between us so that like today, we can all meet like this and enjoy the sun together."

Evian frowned at the mention of the late queen. She looked at Lialda with sad eyes. "The death of any one close to you will always effect you but, the king is not effected by grief but by guilt. Though my people are not able to protect you as we once did, we still have eyes and ears every where. We even heard about the event a day before it happened. When Darek found out he tried to fly off to stop the men from killing her but, to do so would only destroy the oath he made with you. It took both my mate and Darek's brother to hold him down. In his drive to protect you from the loss of your mother he possessed the strength of a dragon three times his size. Not long after her death we found out the truth behind her murder. She was was killed by a small cult called The Zelots of Inshigar, a group devoted to the first human king of your kind. The same man that caused the first great dragon war. Once he died, these men swore vengeance on the line that held the dragon's blood. However, with our race bound by sacred oath to protect that line, we wiped this cult from existence. Or so we thought. Within the time that we have been forbidden to protect the humans, their number sweltered. Some how they found out that within the royal family there was one that showed the power of a dragonkin. With incomplete or altered information, they believed that it was your mother that held that power. We knew the king would not know of the cult or why they killed your mother. So we sent a message to him through Nathaniel's father. When your father realized what had happened and why is when his guilt took over."
"You see, before your father became king, we approached him during a hunt. In this meeting we tried to convince him to allow us to return as protectors of his kingdom. But generations of stubbornness caused him to reject our offer. Once he found out that his queen was killed by the people we were to protect his people from, he knew he was at fault for what happened. To cover his guilt, he blamed us for what happened. He convinced himself that we were behind it as an attempt to make him weak. This the reason he has locked you away so securely and why Darek was not able to come back to you sooner. Your father is not a bad man, even in our own standards but, he is misguided by his guilt and emotions. And because of this he has made it nearly impossible for you two to bring our people together again while he still lives."
Evian paused for a moment. "Do not take this the wrong way. We have no intent to bring about his death. He should die like all kings should. In his bed at an old age or in battle defending his people. You must understand just what it would mean if the king lives to old age. Darek is very skilled at maintaining human form but, by prolonging the transformation he must confine a large amount of energy in a small space. If he dose not return to his dragon form and release that energy it will escape his body in an uncontrolled force that will hurt or kill the people around him. He has only two ways to release the energy. One is by returning to his dragon form and expelling it or by using magic a few times a day. Both of these methods will cause the king to notice that Darek is hiding something. The longer this goes on the greater the chance will become that Darek will be discovered." Evian stopped and grew serious as she looked at her with hard eyes. "You have a great challenge ahead of you and if you should fail you must choose between risking Darek's life and your plan to unite our people or allow for your father to die in battle. We have the ability to arrange this and will ensure that it is both an honorable and swift death." Evian paused. "Forgive me for being so blunt but, we dragons are not a people that hide the truth in order to avoid what may need to be done. If you wish to avoid the choice you must convince your father to let us return or force him off the throne."
Darek place his arm around Lialda to reassure her. "I am committed and ready to risk everything to avoid that choice. You need to stop worrying about me mother. I knew the risks when I made my oath. I am still your son but, I am no longer a hatchling." Darek paused for a moment. "We should be returning soon. I do not want to overstep the trust that the king has placed in me." Darek said as he stood and bowed to each of them and waited for the princess to join him.
