You are so lucky!! There's not that many where I live. I have to go by myself because I don't know anyone that likes Korean food. Which is odd because I consider it one of my favorite foods to eat! I could eat it everyday if it were possible! Usually for the restaurant to do business it has to pair up with Japanese cuisine. I guess over here spicy foods aren't really favored? Even though I live in a military area...
Yeah, the portions are huge. I particularly love the banchan. I think that's my favorite part, actually. I buy Kimchi from the store and just snack on it. Hehe. Kimchi POWER!

:0 we should be eating buddies! no one in my group ever finishes the banchan and it always goes to waste, but it makes for a great snack later lol I love taking home the left overs :3 I don't think all Korean food is spicy I know for sure that bulgogi is super sweet meat sort of like a sugary BBQ flavor (it's great with kimchi and rice ^^ ) Ah! I just remembered, you could do some BBQish stuff at home :3 my mom does it all the time. I don't know where we bought it but we got a portable burner and we put it on the dinning table. Then we put a pan on it and get the water to boil before putting our raw meat, noodles, and vegetables in to cook and then taking it out to eat (don't burn it lol) it's something fun I like doing with my friends when they crash at my place xD just set up the banchan and let them have at it! (you could just sort of ease your friends into korean food >D)

Yes, you would probably make a great Korean food buddy. :< Me, not so much. xD
Scenario: Friend has 4 cookies on plate. Turns head. Turns back. 3 cookies. "Hey, did you?" Me munching away then quickly stop. Then shrug all bug eyed.
That's a good idea. They tried spicy stuff first, so I guess it kind of scarred them. xD I like spicy. Though, one time I felt like a volcano had erupted in my stomach from the korean paste (I forget the name? Google says 'Gochujang'?). That felt crazy. lol

however i can't handle jalapeno peppers, but luckily, Korean dishes don't use them.. (; also if i eat wasabi alone (without soy sauce), i get a sore throat immediately after for some reason, but i can tolerate the spiciness o-o

when i went to new york city, my good friend showed me this incredible restaurant in korea town. it's called miss korea, and even thought it's VERY expensive (we're talking $30 for one serving of meat) it's incredibly delicious and it's A LOT of food. my mom had never had korean bbq and i thought she was going to start yelling about how good it was.
also there was this one time i got invited to this big cookout at the korean church in town. i ate so much meat that night i thought i gained 15 pounds right there. it was heavenly.

I was bemoaning the fact that there are no good [Korean] restaurants here in the country where I live and how badly I want to eat some Gamja-tang and some Kimchi jjigae. Does anyone know of a restaurant that cooks those things well?
