Sneaking away from his mother wasn't as difficult as Kale had thought it would be. There had been a fight amongst his siblings, and he had taken the opportunity to dash away while his mother was trying to calm things down. Somehow, he had managed to avoid detection from any who might take him back to his mother.
He crept out from the burrows. Once he was clear, he began to rush around, running to and fro until he found a particularly tasty looking patch of grass. He skidded to a stop and in the process awkwardly rolled over onto his side. Oblivious to anything else around him, he huffed and stared at the grass. Hopefully his siblings would keep his mother busy for a while. He looked back towards the burrows. He wasn't too far away. If any elil showed up, he figured he could make it back before they even spotted him. Not that he had any experience in the matter. He perked his ears up and froze, suddenly overcome with fear. He'd forgotten the stories his mother had told him of the elil. That is, until now. Suddenly every sound seemed like a threat, and he crouched down in the grass, shivering.
