Ember's Character Arc
She starts out as an incredibly shy, solitary doe with a weak grasp on reality as her dreams, which may or may not really be glimpses of the past though she seems to know that they are with certainty, are much more real to her than anything else. Then she meets The Killing Moon, who grounds her in some ways, but his true effect on her character is to introduce to her the idea of friendship which he reinforces by gifting her with a constant companion, an Eaglehound pup. Her continued relationship with The Killing Moon teaches her how to open up to others and to interact with kin, even though she still lives in her dreams more than she does in the waking world. However, as she opens herself up more to others, she begins to see the reality in those interactions more and more, and with her encounter with a caiman she begins to see how her dreams, although a reflection of reality, cannot truly provide her with a grounding and that she needs to experience things herself. This experience and her eventual companionship with the caiman has a huge impact on her because it grounds her and also reminds her of the beginning of her journey when a dream about a caiman and a doe trusting each other brought her to The Killing Moon. After that experience, she begins to shy away from other kin less and less, though she remains solitary, and finds peace with her existence as both a dreamer and a flesh-though-blood-and-flame kin living in the swamp after meeting Burning Bush and having a conversation with Firefly Eyes. This character arc gave her the realization of her own reality, and with her encounter with Precipice, finds a quiet inner strength.
