"Can you keep a secret, try me."
So this was it. The end of the line. After everything he had been through and the bonds he forged once more, he was going to lose it all again. The blood, the sweat, the tears... all of it meant nothing now. "Did it ever even mean anything in the first place?" the male thought aloud, even though there was no one around to hear him speaking. In front of him was a cliff, jutting out over an ocean that seemed to be roughly one hundred feet below. The waves crashed against the base of the cliff below, and a gentle sea breeze blew at his hair, and to the world behind. Or, what was left of the world to exist. Behind him, it all seemed to be slowly crumbling, falling away into a void of white nothingness. As if the very fabric of his dream was being torn to shreds. Although as if ignorant to these going-ons, he simply sat down at the edge of the cliff, letting his legs dangle over the side as he leaned back, using his hands to keep himself supported upright. "Maybe this really is all for the best. To sleep forever seems like an awfully fine plan at first. But then... there's the fact that I would be missing out on living a new life. Would they truly want this for me?" he said, speaking to no one in particular.
As if on some sort of cue, phantom mirages of his friends seemed to appear behind him, some even walking to the edge of the cliff themselves and sitting down. Though their mouths moved, they could make no sounds. But having known them well enough, he could easily imagine the things they were saying. "What do you think we should do next?" or, "What's on the agenda for today, Master?". To his left sat Firestar; one of his old lovers and someone that was by his side nearly his whole life. Next to her sat Mika, his first love back before the academy originally closed, who seemed to stare off happily into the distance. To his immediate right was Howl, a friend with whom he shared many battles memories and battles with, and next to him was Sol, a friend to the very end that kept him safe back during his first awakening. Behind them, Kris and Jason were elbowing each other (although knowing them, stabbing was also very likely involved) with Cloe and Talia off to the side, snickering at the pair. Carter and Kacey were closer to the front, Kacey seeming to hang off Carter's arm as the older male just looked away boredly. Tatsumaki was standing behind Firestar, alongside Yoichi, the two of them still butting heads as they still argued over who Firestar would be dating. Soul and Sister were almost directly behind Hollow, with Soul having placed his hand on Hollow's head, as if playfully ruffling his brother's hair.
The days of peace and happiness were gone. In their place were loneliness and sorrow. The man began to laugh a dry, hollow laugh as tears streamed down his face, yet none of the mirages seemed to pay him any mind. He laughed, and laughed, and laughed at his own misery, but it stopped almost immediately when he felt something touch his right hand. He slowly looked over, and his eyes locked with the mirage of Firestar, who seemed to be one of the only one able to actually see him. "I see... even in death you still wish for me to be happy..." the man said, rubbing at his eyes with his sleeve as he stood up. Without a second thought, he stepped from the edge of the cliff... but he didn't fall. Instead, he seemed to be walking on the air itself. He walked for a few more seconds before turning back around to look at the group that was behind him. And in that instant, everything seemed almost like it had back when they were all alive. Behind them was the original Sunlight Academy, and everyone was gathered together almost like they were taking some sort of class photo, now with a mirage of himself to fit in with the rest. "No matter what may happen... no matter the trials or tribulations we all may face in the next life... I swear we'll meet again... or my name isn't, well. Hollow, of course." the man said, smiling as all of the mirages seemed to turn into spirits and float up into the vast, empty sky as the rest of his dream crumbled around him.
... p! ... ke up! Dad, wake up!" a voice yelled, soon met with brute force. Hollow felt the weight of another upon his stomach as he almost coughed up a lung, unprepared for the sudden attack. "I'm up, I'm up! ... I also think one of my kidneys burst..." the man complained, rubbing his stomach as he looked up to see who his attacker was. It was none other than his only son, Lychnus. Although his mother was long dead, he could still the resemblance to her in his son. And every time, it made him smile. "... Eh? What're you talkin' about? You have incredible regenerative powers! That shouldn't be an issue for you!" Lychnus rebutted, earning a sympathetic look from his father. "Is that any way to speak to your old man! I can't believe my own son... has forsaken me..." Hollow replied, putting a hand to his chest, almost as if he were deeply hurt. Although this soon turned to a snicker when he noticed that Lychnus had began to panic. The two of them had this back and forth for a few more minutes before Hollow finally got up and dressed, heading downstairs to meet with his son for breakfast.
"So, it's your first day at Sunlight Academy starting today, right?" Hollow asked, grabbing a slice of toast and biting into it. Of course, he already knew the answer to this, as he was the Headmaster of the academy itself. He managed to restore it after a few... trials, to say the least. Building best to honor the memories of his old friends. Although upon thinking about this, his mind immediately went back to the dream that he had just been awoken from, causing a tear to form and slide down his face. Something that did not go unnoticed by Lychnus. "Hey... dad? You alright? You're not going to miss seeing me around that much, are ya? We'll be in the same place, even!" Lychnus stated, continuing to go on and on like this, being silenced when Hollow finally smiled and placed a hand on his head. "Lychnus... my son. Have I ever told you about the original Sunlight Academy gang? My old friends?" Hollow asked, receiving a sharp nod from his son. The man ruffled his son's hair, before walking towards the door, followed by a hurried Lychnus that, even though he still wasn't all buttoned-up and such, didn't want to be late.
"Well, I just had the longest dream about them. A dream that felt like it went on for an eternity. But as with all dreams, we must eventually wake up in the end. Always remember this though; at the end of everything, there will always be a new beginning."
