Aandes smiled up at the redblood. "Alifax Bunsem! Good then."

He put his hands in the pocket of his hoodie, suddenly efficient and businesslike. "I have a map of the sectors here, if you want to take a look. I was thinking that... This district might still need help -- I mean, 'cuz not a lot of people will probably relieve it right away,"

Aandes had (purely out of coincedence) whipped out the paper on command, always adroit and eager with the correct supplies. He looked up at Alifax; somehow his glance looked like he was looking down his nose at him at the same time. After a moment of gesturing to said district - a scholarly district near the slums, a surprisingly strategic point for the child - he gestured for the redblood to take the map.

"Also... I don't know if it'll help at all, but just over there I have a foot-pedaled five wheel device we could use." He curled his lip and looked with genuine despair towards the direction of where he had set down his cart. He'd hidden it under a pile of supplies and had made sure no one would tamper with his pride and joy -- unfortunately, though, it wouldn't have been much use.

"It was a little busted up before I rode it here, and now the metal bit between the handles and the wheel is broken. I guess I need to get it welded, though," Aandes mumbled. He was truly disheartened. The greenblood looked around for a suitable replacement. "I guess we can buy a new cart, eh Pops?"

His lusus nodded in general agreement and licked his face with a long tongue. It was clear he didn't particularly care about anything regarding this situation -- or any situation.

Melancholies

Kamileunaire

'The fastest' was a reassurance that made him laugh a little, but there was a friendly lightheartedness behind it. Ever observant, Aprife had seen the way she perked up some when Zeffer complimented her. A lot of the shakiness he'd felt before had diminished then, too. That was something he'd have to keep in mind for later. What calmed trolls down, what made them more open, was an important bit of knowledge for any secret seeking individual. If it would work as well coming from an essential stranger as it did coming from a friend, or even if it would work a second time at all, he had no way of knowing. Still, he wouldn't forget it. Her speed was obviously something she valued.

"Wow, she must be pretty fast if she can beat you, Zeffer." There was obviously more playful challenge in his voice when speaking to the taller blueblood. He'd seen how fast his friend could be before and it only gave credibility to Sarcel's skill. "Keeping up with both of you s'gonna be something."

That was when he gave the girl he'd just met another curious look. Curious, but also silently urging. Zeffer would most certainly be the driving force behind whether she came along or not, but it couldn't hurt to let her know, without being too pushy, that he thought it was a pretty decent idea, too. Come with us, his eyes said, it's gonna be fun. "What about it, Sarcel?"

Forera felt accomplished. It was like she was born to live— to do things, to be great. She had been crushed under the rubble, but she was rescued by someone she didn't remember— and she managed to pull her brother, his lusus, and her lusus out of the fallen debris of her old hive soon after. She felt great. Alive! Twice she survived the fall of a city, twice she felt a loud rumble and the world shook around her. Only once, though, did she look up to see her upper floor falling over her.

Forera had been raiding the fridge for extra food in the back, managing to scrounge up little bits and pieces of left-over oink-beast. She had thrown herself on the couch with the food in her hands, having gotten ready to watch B.I.G.S.I.S. for half an hour or two. After she finished, she went to wash her fingers, yelling to Anguis that she would go out for a bit. During this time, the ground began to rumble and she thought— was the floor moving, or was it just her?

Then she looked outside to see everything slowly start moving fast and faster, the houses breaking in two. The floor underneath her cracked in two, but had not fell in. Hearing a large crack above her, she looked up. In a second of desperation, Forera screamed as everything happened too fast and... The floor fell onto her, hitting her square in the forehead, knocking her out.

Now, in present time, she stood staring at the two flyers with a bit of a small... well, predicament. She didn't know which to choose! From afar, she heard a small yell: "Donate ... help fund our relief efforts! ....all help WILL go toward rebuilding YOUR homes!" Eh, she wasn't convinced! I mean, yeah, obviously they'll help but that's obligatory. If they don't the Queenie's main city would go to ruins, and the people in them!

Forera clicked her tongue, body still dusty from almost being buried alive. She had brought Serpentmom with her wrapped around her neck, so tired she looked like a dead animal around her neck. Forera rubbed in between the antennae on her lusi's bumpy head, only a tad worried about her but otherwise optimistic that she'd be okay.

Looking to her left, she saw a fancy looking yellowblood standing there, looking at the flyers next to her. Her hair was suuper long and she wore a dress that really didn't seem very appropriate for the mess that was currently happening! She looked nervous. "Uh... Heya, fancy yellow bows!" The girl visibly twitched when she heard the tealblood speak. "...yes?" She asked, her expression just a tad bit annoyed mixed with, what was that, fear?? "Which are ya pickin?" The yellowblood bit her lip. She looked indecisive. "To be honest, I do not know." Ahaha! This girlie has a funny way o'speakin! "Actually, forget it. I will pick P.P.S. Would not want to run into trouble." The yellowblood mumbled something Forera couldn't hear, and she couldn't help but ask— "Hm? What'dja say?" "Oh no, nothing. Do not worry. Minor slip of the tongue."

"Okay."

For a few minutes after, the two stood in silence, staring at the options. Serpentmom flicked her tongue. It seemed a little awkward, actually, and Forera was starting to feel kinda bored. Finally, one of them spoke. "Okay, well then, um, I will be off." "Goodbye!!" The yellowblood took one of the thousands of P.P.S. flyers littering the ground, and hurried away, in the direction of... Somewhere else? Where is she going?? But when she turned around to see her walking away, she was gone. Forera pursed her lips and looked back toward the flyers. Behind the flyer she ripped off was one of the flyers for the other group.

Forera ripped it off and walked toward the park, looking over the things they let a kid like her do before rolling her eyes, balling it up, and throwing it away. She could do better— she wasn't some regular kid.

With fighting at the forefront of efforts on both sides, it was hardly a surprise when phase two of the P.P.S.'s initial strategy took a blow quite similar to the first. Supplies ran low in short order and workers who made it out of their scraps with enough gusto to continue passing them out found it hard to locate a restock tent that was still functioning as one. It seemed that despite their best efforts, the looters were coming out on top in both brawling and hoarding goods, leaving the city starved. The projected end of phase two came and went, but the violence didn't stop, and trolls trapped in the fallen sectors remained displaced and without aid.

And yet, were one to ask a supposed 'looter' what they thought, many would say they had simply done the job of the P.P.S., but better. They'd saved and provided for themselves first. On a planet like Alternia, it was often difficult to do much more than that. Survival of the fittest rang quite true throughout the beaten down battlefield of New Hemisect City.

Quite a few areas within the disaster zone ended up even worse for wear than they'd been in the wake of the earthquake and its aftershocks. Any abandoned buildings that still remained standing, though precariously so, were completely gutted. Anything of use or value, if not protected by a surviving resident or lusus, was lost to the hands of those who would find a way to profit regardless of the outcome. While some intents were purer than others, it was safe to say the looters had won the night this time. When things looked especially dire, an effort was made to rally drones already in the city, and along with reinforcements, they finally took tentative control once more.

Most looters escaped with ease, however, under cover of rubble and mayhem. They took with them all they had successfully gathered, quite a bit in the grand scheme of things, and disappeared in the night the same way they'd come. It would take even more time now to recover the fallen end of the city, but in response, drone presence was increased throughout the disaster zone to discourage continued looting and aid in reconstruction efforts.

And while B.I.G.S.I.S.'s monitoring system would no long be in effect—its reinstatement would need more manpower than was available in the aftermath—a heightened imperial presence could still be felt in some areas of NHC, even outside the radius of the earthquake's destruction.

The looters emerge victorious.

In a truly Alternian show of effort, the self-interest of affected individuals beat out the needs of the whole. Looters who won their battles found great reward in the aftermath of their trials, and receive a Bag of Sweet Loot!

A hefty satchel of shiny trinkets, ranging from gilded golden jewels to exquisitely crafted objects of war. These sure look expensive!
"Congratulations to Aprife and Eostre for the dispatching of those who stand in your way, for better or for worse."

Looters who lost their battles, or whose fates were up in the air when the drones displaced their battles, were still relatively successful, and have received a Bag of Leftovers from the wreckage of the city.

It appears to contain some spare parts from the wreckage. Maybe you could sell it for scrap? You're not sure why you decided to loot this bronze smuppet statue. It was just so enticing...
"Abrila, Zeylla, Sarcel, Zeffer, Torero, Regina and Byakko, excellent work looking out for yourselves. You make your lusii proud."

Not to leave out the savage youth, those kids on the looter side who participated in their teens' battles found their efforts rewarded with great goodies! Win or lose, these kids are rewarded with spoils for their deeds and receive a Sack of Sacked Toys.

These toys come in a variety of shapes and sizes! You could really find a good new friend in one of these cuddly buddies, or maybe have some fun tying things to lightposts with a jumprope or something. Or, you could just hock all of it. There's a kid out there that's missing a doll, after all...
"Good fortune, Aandes, Bromos, Milieu, Gaffle, Atiqua, Tuphan, Carmen, and Frossa for cheering on the home team! And by home team, you mean your team. That was clearly the right team."

Kids who weren't able to assist their looter-buddy found that the pickings were fewer. While some toys were found, they were unfortunately as affected by the earthquake as much of the populous -- and all that would be gained was a Bag of Broken Toys.

I'm sure you can have those fixed up and good as new! Or you can glue them all together and create a big toy monstrosity or something. That would be charming.
"Better luck next time, Forera! You're decidedly better off having fended for yourself."

And finally, the relief workers. The Imperial standard for medals of honor fell by the wayside when the looters won, so unfortunately upon returning (battered and bruised) to the P.P.S. relief station, all they could really afford to give you were these rather unfortunate (and maybe a little condescending) "You Tried" Stickers. Fun for teens and kids!

They stick to things really well at least! Put it in your broken hive to remember those fond days that you fought for the glory of New Hemisect City. Those were good times.
"Pyruet, Saabia, Koisho, Spraos, Ratiku, Alifax, Talymn, Vremea, Maelle, Curtsi, Trusci, Miache, Nenios, Poeias, Nervit, Dictys, Elidae and Rasali... You tried!"
