Having 2 Aussies is wonderful except when it comes to grooming. I used to have them done bi-weekly last year and the cost was outragous! But I have decided to tackle the grooming myself after I lost my job, it has been a trial and error but I think I finally have the hang of things now. I have compiled a short list of supplies one would need to groom long and double coated dogs at home.

These can all be found at local pet shops, beauty supply and Walmart/Target/Kmart
Craftsman 2.5 Gal 1.75hp wet/dry vac (for blow drying the coat)
11 ft extension hose for the vac
Slicker brush
Pin Brush
Undercoat rake
Steele comb
A good pair of double(or single)-sided thinning shears.
5" straight scissors
Dremel or nail clippers (I prefer the dremel)
Shampoo and conditioner of choice.

These items I splurged on to save my back and to keep from having my bath tub snaked every month.

With out the table and tub, it actually comes out less than I would spend in one grooming session with a professional. I spent roughly $130 on supplies.

I'm a bad dog mommy. I just use our tub, an old hair-drier and a comb. lol

I can't mix my personal grooming tools/areas with the dogs. I work in the medical field and can't go into work with dog fur on me nor do I like it floating around my house.

This isn't a must have list, just a suggestion for those, like me, who don't like dog hair dog hair touching everything and constantly needs to dust and vacuum.

The elevated tub and grooming table save my back, I am 5'10" and can't stay stooped over a tub and soak down 2 water resistant coats then spend another hour each dog stooped over to blow dry and trim coats.
