Maslin grinned as Kavanna spoke, oh he could definitely make his way through the city to visit at least a few times. He didn't know for sure what his future schedule would be but there was bound to be some free time he could use. It'd be a little bit of a trek but this sort of thing was well worth the energy it'd take. Maybe he could make her something nice in return, some sort of small mechanical knickknack that she'd find useful or charming. Raised among trader's Maslin was naturally inclined to repay favours as best he could and he had a somewhat limited skill set right now.
Maslin nodded in thanks to Kavanna before directing his attention back to Dom as the younger boy began to speak.
"Sounds like have a nice big family, those are always the best kind." Despite being an only child Maslin had never been lonely. Several cousin's his age traveled with the caravan and a couple of his aunt's and uncles had always been available for a bit of fun. " Do you have any favourites?" Favoritism came naturally to Maslin and he also wanted drag the smaller boy away from a topic that clearly upset his mother. It wasn't the same look his own mother gave when his father came up in conversation but there was a tangible sort of unhappiness that he could feel at the mention of Gamma.

"Oh yes, my uncle Karst is my favorite. He brings me candy when he comes to visit. I want to be just like him when I grow up. But I also want to be like my auntie Alora. She's super nice to me and helps me make cookies! She's the best auntie I could ever ask for!" he said with a great smile. "What about you? Do you have a favorite uncle or auntie?" the little boy asked his new found friend. Damian truly liked how this boy talked to him, it was different. He was trying to truly learn more about him, it made him think because all he had ever known was his family. He wanted more friends now, though he could only hope they would be as nice as this Maslin character was.
Kavanna giggled a bit as the two Hybrids talked. It was a secret wish of hers that her son would grow to be like one of her brothers, strong, yet kind. She just stayed as quiet as she could, but was quite fascinated with the concept of having a Hybrid friend and a Hybrid son. The two could bond and possibly grow together, that would always be a fun time, she thought.

It sounded to Maslin like Damian was pretty fond of sweet treats. He wondered if that plus his desire to be like the treat bringing relatives meant the smaller boy wanted to be a a pastry chef someday. It was probably impossible to tell what the other hybrid actually meant by wanting to be like someone at his age. Maslin didn't even fully remember everything from when he was that small and definitely not what he'd wanted to be when he grew up.
"Hmm, my favourite uncle is Mavros, he's always got time to talk to me and he's always showing me his crafting secrets." Maslin had found his mother's youngest brother to always have an sympathetic ear available for him as well as time to show him some neat little trick on how to make metal bend just so or how to design things that appealed to the skeptical eye without being overly intricate. Mostly though he liked how his uncle Mavros didn't usually treat him like a little kid even if he was still quite young. It was part of why he'd felt so bad when he'd had his sledding accident and ruined the gift from him.

Damian smiled at his friend's talk of his uncle. Having someone to talk to was always nice, Damian even understood that at his young age. "Your uncle Mav...Mav-roast...he sounds like a nice person! I like nice people! They're always so nice!" he said, giggling and running to actually take a seat next to the boy. "I like you!" he said with a big, toothy grin.
Kavanna just smiled, watching over her son and this other Hybrid. The two had a lot in common, as far as their races went, and the fact that this Maslin character was quite kind was a bonus. Damian was good at seeking out individuals with a kindness to them. He wasn't as gullible as other five year olds, for he had this weird sense that if someone was bad, he would stay away from them. But he seemed much more open to love and kindness than Kavanna had ever been. She was hardened at a young age not to be too trusting, but to trust enough. He however, once he found someone he liked, it was as if they were bonded for life. He had a good head on his shoulders though, even if he was only five.
"Maybe we should get going soon, Dom. It's getting a bit cold out here and we have to get back before it gets too late, otherwise Gran will be unhappy." Kavanna said, wrapping her arms around herself, feeling yet another chilled wind.
"But moooooom! I was making a friend!" he said, a perturbed look upon his face, crossing his arms with annoyance.
"I understand, but your friend will hopefully come by and visit us soon at home, right?" she said, glancing over at Maslin with a smile.

Maslin was not used to people taking a shine to him so quickly if at all. Damian's quick approval of him was surprising and honestly it felt good in a way he couldn't quite describe. While he hadn't gotten much thinking done this afternoon maslin was quite pleased with his choice to come to the lake today and what had happened instead. He had found the smaller boy to be amusing and charming company and his mother equally interesting and full of the potential for friendship.
When it became clear that the meeting was at an end Maslin nodded firmly at Kavanna's question and held his hand out to Damian " I promise I will come visit," he swore, gaze shifting from the elder Dovaa to her hybrid son. He truly wanted to see these people again and make the most of the time he would have being near to them over the winter.

"Good." the older Dovaa said, smiling at the young Hybrid before her. She held out her hand to her son to take after he was finished with the boy.
"Okay! You promised! Don't break it or else!" he said, a very serious look on his face. Instead of taking the hand, the little Hybrid jumped into a full forced hug before the other Hybrid could say a word. He soon came off of it, grabbed his mother's hand and gave her a hug too.
"Don't forget your promise!" the little boy said as his mother took his hand and the two began to walk in the direction towards the family house.
"Yes, please come visit soon!" the Dovaa urged, waving goodbye to the boy before they disappeared into cold, white forest.
