((I suppose. And besides, I wouldn't want to see Sherlock drawn into the Void if the Doctor was unable to save him. ))

It was hard to conceal his laughter, but he did his best. The Doctor liked a challenge, but this man was just stubborn, and he thought both of them knew it.
"Actually," he countered, "it was about a hundred years ago. That's when I..." he coughed a little, not intending to finish the sentence. That was when Gallifrey had burned.
"You're not just a silly little human. You don't get it, do you?" Chuckling ruefully, the Doctor sighed. It wasn't exactly something he could explain. "Everyone's important. This - this silly little world with these silly little apes, taking their first steps toward the sun... they're brilliant, they're curious, they're human. If I wasn't Timelord, I'd be proud to call myself one of you." No, that wasn't right: he strove to be one of them. He admired them, with their concept of humanity, their ability to care, and the fact they could spend their entire mortal lives, just one hundred simple years, and live more in that time than some of his own people had lived in a millenium.

The Doctor Anon

Sherlock adored unfinished sentences. They told him so much. He wandered over to where his bedroom should have been and there it was. He looked at the knob suspiciously, then back at the Doctor.

"I never said I wasn't important, Timelord." He paused to test the doorknob, his hand hovering over it but not touching. "We are important. We're also silly, like a child is silly to his parents. It's part of the process of growth, to be silly. And we're each very little, even just compared to our tiny world."

Sherlock smirked as though he enjoyed being a difficult man. "Small things are important, essential." He of all people would know that quite well.

The Doctor took his screwdriver and sonicked the door open, eliminating the need for such hesitance.
"I suppose..." he hesitated, "you're a bit like Timelords, I s'pose, when they've just been born. Always trying to be old and grumpy, forgetting to have fun. Brilliant, the human race." It made him feel like he had a family again, almost, because Timelords were born as adults, and only had to grow into their bodies.
"Who says little is silly?"

((Sorry, I had a period there where I couldn't write for the love of me. Sorry. ))

(We've all got those moments. I actually happened to be busy that day anyway! Works out.)

Sherlock's eyes followed the Doctor as he unlocked the door with his screw driver. 'It really is some sort of a screw driver, or a door unlocking device. Truly multi-purpose.'

"Exactly. Well, I think children can be described as silly. I can most definitely be described as childish-- have, often been described as it", the private consulting detective smirked. "Compared to most others, I think I must be", he conceded as if amused.

He stepped inside and looked around. "This is truly bizarre. Here I am, Sherlock 2.0, walking inside my 1.0's bedroom, talking to an alien that looks like a human about how my race must look to someone like him. I'd think most others would probably find this a little disconcerting." He flashed the light of his mobile from one corner to the next of the dark, uninhabited room, getting a feel for the dimensions.

The Doctor grinned as he took in Sherlock's thoughtful expression, and slipped the screwdriver back into his left breast pocket, where the worn lining made it quite clear that it had a home there.
"The only thing it doesn't do is wood. Bit of a shame, really - I ought to fix it, I've just never really gotten 'round to it." But this 'never gotten 'round to it' was the same sort of thing that prevented him from fixing the TARDIS's chameleon circuit and letting it change from its police box form; he quite liked it as it was. Still smiling a little as though Sherlock's company was enough to make the world grin forever, he followed Sherlock inside and ran a hand along the doorframe.
"Well..." Offering the young detective a smile, he spun around, "What's the point in being grown up if you can't be a little childish sometimes?"

Sherlock snapped out of his pondering and offered an equal smile, eyes gleaming. "I never want to find out. Growing up like normal is far too boring." His smile faded into a confused look. "Wood. Wood? Really? That sounds like a bit of a fairy tale rule. Oh."

Sherlock froze. "Ohh." The detective smacked his forehead lightly with his free hand and twirled around the Doctor almost as if he were dancing, shining the light of his mobile in his direction as he chuckled darkly. "Of course. Hamelin, all those missing children. Witches! Vampires." He nodded knowingly and pointed at the Doctor before he plodded off to the living room again, peeking out through the broken window at the TARDIS below.

Everything was starting to sink in. More and more things made sense. Aliens. Time and space. The grand scheme. And it was 1888. For real! And Jack the Ripper was really out there. And yet he was standing there, dazed like an idiot.

"Worlds away yet I'm still just sitting at home when there's murdering going on! Let's be off to Whitechapel then Doctor!" He darted towards the stairs and reached for a coat rack that wasn't there on his way out unthinkingly, then snorted at himself for it before continuing on.
