trying to help someone but they are like very hard to talk to. trying to breakthem out of their shell but they won't open up. they jsut keep shutting me out... which doesn't work very well i might add as their emotions are far to easy to read. anyway hes agreed to talk to me again. what approch should i take?

The best thing to do would be to quietly listen to what they have to say showing that your paying attention. Then give them your feedback on the situation. In this case you said the person has a shy nature. It's likely they are just afraid to open up to someone fully. Just approach the conversation cautiously, and make it clear you aren't going to judge them, or verbally attack them.
