Xolani listened intently to Maya as she spoke of Zena. It sounded so very interesting, especially the part about the large lizard beast. While it could have been an awful experience for many people, Xolani himself couldn't help but wish he could have seen something like that. If anything that's what she got her injuries from, that was for certain.
He thought about her question for a few moments, thinking of all the places he wandered as a child with his parents. "I've been all over Tale and Jahaur when I was younger. I think we wandered through Sauti for a bit but it was terrain we were unfamiliar with so we didn't stay there long, but as of right now I am planted in Jahaur, yes," he said with a nod. "Honestly I hope to start wandering again. It feels so strange to me to be in one place for long, but I think it's safer for me to stay here until I know I can truly fend for myself out there." He chuckled.
"Until now, no one place was my home, and even now that I've settled down it doesn't really FEEL like home..." He paused and then laughed to himself as he stood himself up.
"But you don't need to here about my lamentations. You have your own things to worry about, I'm sure," he chirped as he dusted himself off.
He caught himself peering at her bow, curious, then thought of something. "How familiar are you with weaponry? I've been thinking of fashioning a slingshot of some sort, but I am not sure of what to use for it..."

Maya's mind drifted to the scenery of the various places as they were spoken about. She had only been to the edge of Tale and had gotten injured there, Sauti seemed set out to kill her in every way possible. She had made great friends in both places though, and she was certain that Jaharu and Chibale island carried just as many threats to people who weren't familiar with the land. Fingering the trinket on her neck absently Maya followed the strange shifters gaze back to her bow.
"Weaponry?" Looking back to him as he spoke about a slingshot Maya glanced at him puzzled for a moment. She was unfamiliar with this weapon he spoke of, was it some form of magic. The warrior woman knew about spears, tridents, bows, knifes, swords, and other various forms of attack. Not a sling. "I have no idea what you are talking about, Alkidike don't use magic. Well very rare if we can." She corrected herself at the end.
"What is the use of having something, if you don't know what it's for?"

Xolani shrugged. "It's a simple weapon used to throw rocks with greater force then someone's arm can. Not magic, and usually not used by warriors of any decent caliber, but all I have are rocks so I wanted to make the best use of them until I earned my own weapon. Truthfully what I would really like to use is a spear," he commented.
"I've tried to make one like my father's, but I can never find the right material for the staff. It's usually too brittle and cracks after one good test blow, or too flexible and it just bends instead of jabbing what it's supposed to," he said, looking off at the tree branches. Perhaps he could find a proper handle here? It wouldn't hurt to look around at least. He looked to the woman and then back to the tree and knocked on it, trying to get a feel for what the wood was like. He frowned, not liking the sound it made. No, this one wasn't right at all, that was for sure.

"I guess it's a matter of testing things out to learn what works best." Maya commented settling eventually settling down. As he knocked against the tree Maya was hesitant to remain calm. She was tolerant of earthlings but if they started hurting her forest she wasn't going to stand for it easily. Didn't help she as starting to feel the conversation running a bit dry. Not that they didn't from time to time, just, they needed something more to talk about.
Stealing another bite of fruit Maya then again stood up. Pacju followed suit having completely finished her own meal. "I don't think I should really be helping you find a wood that would help build your spear. It could be taken the wrong way. I could be helping you kill me in the future. Either way, I don't see much good coming of it."

Xolani paused what he was doing and looked at the lady, very seriously. "The only reason I would attempt to kill you was if you attempted to kill me first ma'am, that or if you killed or harmed someone that meant something to me." He shrugged, then moved over to his basket of fruit, pulling it up into his arms.
"Besides, I didn't ask for your assistance with the spear, just that I was having trouble making one...but then again now that I think about it it sounded like I was, so I apologize for causing that sort of confusion."
He shifted the weight of his basket to get a better grip on it. "Anyway,it seems like you're feeling better. I do hope those wounds of yours heal well and quickly."

Maya shrugged the notion off, she had no intention of causing harm to the earthlings around her unless they traveled to close to home tree. In which case she would then be beaten to the punch by her sister Neibet. Watching as the fruit was pulled closer to him Maya figured she had eaten enough of his spoils and he was quickly trying to claim them back before the Alkidike to polish them off in front of him.
The earthlings had such strange ways of talking, customs where very different from her own and quite obviously. Running her fingers through the fine fur on her reptile companion Maya smirked. "Rest and food has amazing healing properties. I'm sure you are aware of this."

"That it does," Xolani commented before looking at his basket before taking a few steps closer to the woman in as a non threatening manner as he could before setting it back down again and giving it a little shove closer in her direction.
"Here," he said. "I know where lots more fruit is around these parts, and it might be a while before you can properly hunt and gather again, even with your friend over there," he said, looking over to her familiar. "This way, you can be sure to focus your attention on getting where you are going and getting better." He stepped away from the basket and sat back down. If anything, it kept him away from home a bit longer, which he in all honesty didn't mind so much.

Maya's fingers twitched unconsciously as he stepped closer to her. Unsure if he meant to attack or not but slowly softened when the basket was placed down. Feeling less on edge she stepped forward and took a few from the basket and pushed it back his way with a nodded thanks. "Even Pacju has her moments of strength." Turning she glanced at her companion who moved to press her muzzle against Maya's side.
Giggling Maya offered her a fruit to which it was gratefully accepted, together they nestled down once again in the soft foliage of the forest floor. "Your offering is appreciated." Maya said nervously "I'm sure with this we wont be struggling as much to get home. I'm sure my younger sisters will be pleased to hear my return." Maya almost used the word see, however one of her sister's couldn't see at all and it cost a great burden on the entire tree when two, were so stubbornly Alkidikes in their pride. Shuddering at her own alarming thoughts Maya smiled and began eating.

Xolani chuckled a bit at Maya's pet. It made him rather wanting one himself, and he was sure one day he would get the chance. He loved watching animals of all shapes and sizes interact with other animals, and even humanoids. He would even say that he preferred the company of fauna to that of people given the chance, though he really didn't mind conversation, though when the other half of the conversation was afraid of you it made topics hard to come up with. She had her reasons to be guarded though. Her people and his 'people' aren't always on the best of terms after all.
"Glad to hear that," he commented, glad to be able to help even just a bit. "I'm sure your sisters will be more than happy to hear of your coming home. You traveled a long way and have probably been away for a long time." he said in a musing tone as he reached over to grab a few reeds that were near him. Seeing as he was now without a basket, he needed to start working on something to carry food in.

Handing another fruit to Pacju, Maya glanced back to the shifter. "Yes, but I don't really know for sure. I can only assume. My travels have been worth it though. I only fear I've been forgotten." She shrugged as the Radaku sniffed the offered fruit again and took a partial bite.
Blinking as the juices oozed into her fingers, Maya turned to look at her hand. Her mind wandered back towards the small unhatched Kinfa egg back home. "Do you have any companions? Besides humans?"
