When the girl was ready to lead the way, Cassiel fell in step with her much shorter strides. His legs were longer, as he towered over her in height, but he adjusted his stride to match her own as they began a casual stroll back towards town. It wasn't that he really wanted to go back to town, but he felt a small twinge of responsibility, to make sure the girl made it home safely. He could sense her unease, and he glanced at her, flashing a rather charming smile. If he relaxed in her presence, surely she would.
"Starting at the beginning is always the best." He muttered shortly before she began to talk. He listened to every word she said, taking in the details of her horrible past. To him it was horrible! Her story broke his heart in several ways. Who would dare abuse their child? He would never wish that experience upon his worst of enemies, not that he had any. Humans were puzzling creatures and Cassiel sometimes wondered how they survived over the decades. But while she told the tale of her past, Cassiel took a moment to rummage around his bag. No, he wasn't bored... but he was hungry. The half eaten box of cookies was popped open with a gleeful look in his eyes, and one of the bite-sized morsels was taken out and delivered to his lips. He couldn't suppress the smile that came to his lips, and he turned to Ruria, offering the box to the girl just as she finished her story. "Cookie?"
"I cannot relate to your story, so I won't lie and say I do. But I can understand it, although it... disturbs me. The way I was raised is vastly different. For all I know I had a normal childhood, save for all the dead that walked into our shrine. You see, my family shrine has a calling to the dead, this pull of energy that draws them to my home when the time to cross over is right. Its a final pilgrimage of the soul." He began to explain, eyeing the girl for a moment before looked forward again. He didn't want to stare at her, but he was as curious as ever about a new travel companion. Plus... did her hair change color? She was full of surprises! "When a soul comes to us, we will summon a gateway to the beyond, what lies ahead of the soul is predetermined long before they reach us. So being surrounded by the dead and haunted by spirits is far from abnormal to me. In fact, I talk to the dead on a daily basis. I think that's why I am so fascinated by you. In a way, you are haunted by yourself and you cannot rid yourself of what you are."
He paused a moment to eat another cookie, taking his time to enjoy the sweet treat before he continued speaking. "Though, after listening to you explain...I am still confused about your true desire. You do not want to get rid yourself of this haunting and yet you don't want it to control you. Although I am familiar with darker magics, this really isn't my forte. And after thinking about it, the only thing I can really offer you, to help you understand that darker side of yourself, is a seance. It may do more harm than good, or nothing at all, but it's something I could attempt in a well-confined area..."

She could smell it before she could see it.
A cookie.
A freshly baked, scrumptious, mouth watering, tasty.... the moment he offered her one, it was in her mouth, savored by the pink-haired girl as if it was the last and best cookie on earth. Anybody who offered her confectioneries was good in her book. "Fenkyu sho mush!" (Thank you so much!)
As Cassiel exchanged his own tellings of his childhood, Ruria's eyes glazed with sparkling interest, the cookie still half in her mouth. How wonderful such a life would be....! All the wonderful and terrible stories the dead must have, secrets they don't wish to take with them to the grave. "Originally, I wanted to study necromancy, even though it's kind of frowned upon. Sadly..." and indeed her expression wilted as she recounted her fate -- "The best I could do were these two boneheads. I wasn't very adept at it..." The girl looked as if her dreams had been crushed into smithereens, but her emotional state changed back to normal the moment she took another bite of cookie.
"A...seance?" she raised her eyes to Cassiel's, studying his face for a moment. "Will it hurt?"

Another smile graced his face at the girl's delight over a cookie. It was hard for him to part with the box, but he offered it to her reluctantly. She must have been just as hungry as he was, especially after that display of her magic. It had to be exhausting and hard on ones stomach! So he gave her the remainder of the box, only to rummage around in his knapsack for another. "It's unfortunate for you that necromancy is frowned upon in the human world. You were born to the wrong race, because ours love the dark magic. In fact, I know of a family that specializes in necromancy, however, there's been some dark rumors lately. They say one of the residents decimated the shrine and kills anyone who enters... so I dare not check the truth of these rumors..." His words trailed off as a new cookie entered his mouth, this time oatmeal. He savored the flavors for a moment before he swallowed the delicious treat and continued speaking. "And yes, the dead tell some wonderful stories... and the secrets! Boy, I could talk to you for a week straight and not make a dent in the secrets I know. When spirits are about to leave this world, they for some reason, find it necessary to tell me everything. Sometimes their stories are long winded and boring, but lately they have been rather interesting. I've started to keep a journal with some of the stories. Perhaps the next time we meet I will have it on me and you can read it."
Again he smiled and took a moment to enjoy the baked good. There was no denying it; he loved his sweets. It was the only reason he traveled to any human city. Their baked goods were too irresistible! "I'm sure if you tried hard enough, you could master the easier side of necromancy. If it's the magic you have a calling for, and want to learn, you should put your effort into it. I, however, do not favor it. My father tried to train me and would often kill an animal in front of me. He could revive it like nothing, as simple as snapping his fingers! I could never reach his level, and I hate to kill anything without reason. Killing an innocent animal just to practice a magic skill was not a justifiable reason to me. So I stopped training." He explained, shrugging slightly to himself. He still hated to kill even went hunting, but he had to survive some how and he did enjoy the taste of meats.
"As for the saeance... I'm not sure if it will hurt. I've never tried to speak to a spirit inside a person before. Usually I only have them when trying to call upon a dead and gone spirit. So I can't promise that it won't hurt or if it'll even work... the best I can say is, we won't know until we try. You already told me nothing frightens you... so what's there to loose?" Now he was grinning. True, it was risky, but it sounded like fun! It wasn't something he got to do every day, let alone with a living spirit! Now his curiosity was getting the better judgment of him.

"I'm not frightened!" ruria puffed up defensively, doing her best to stand at her full 'height'. She gave Cassiel a determinedly serious scowl, before playfully stealing another cookie from him and biting it before he could reclaim it. After some time, they neared her home, and she paused in front of the small gate leading up the path to the door, her two skullfriends flitting inside through an open window upstairs.
She seemed to be thinking hard about it, before answering him. "Okay, I'll do it, but... if you learn anything stupidly sad, I don't want your pity." She gave him a sideways glance, her eyes nothing but serious. "Everyone has sadness in their lives. I don't wish to dwell on mine anymore."
She opened the gate, motioning that he could follow her inside if he wanted.
It was small, but comfortable, with almost everything situated in one open space on the first floor, and half of the 2nd floor was some sort of bedroom or living area. A fireplace was there, though it had been a while since it had been lit, and the kitchen smelled faintly of pastry and berry.
"W..what do I have to do?" she turned to face him, showing signs of being nervous, not that she'd ever admit to it. ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★✰

Cassiel frowned at her request. Don't pity her? Well... That would be hard for this exorcisma to do. But he nodded his head in agreement. "I'll do my best not to pity you." And with that said, he followed her into her home.
He had been to several human dwellings, and he was still fascinated by everything he saw. It was all new to him! Cassiel fought with himself not to openly wander her home and touch everything. His bag was dropped near the door and he took one final moment to look around before his eyes fell onto Ruria. "Well, I'll need to set everything up. Unfortunately I have none of my personal supplies with me so I hope you'll have something I can use." He stepped further into the home and began to glance around while listing off items. "A table top, five candles, chalk if you have it, if not, anything to write with will work as long as it'll show up. I'll also need salt, and an item you hold dear. Though..." He eyed the girl a long moment, studying her while his mind began to think.
"On second thought, I need a large floor space and all those items minus the table. I won't need an item you hold dear either; I'm going to place you in the center. What is more dear than yourself?" He seemed to have some confidence in this choice and smiled at her, waving a hand for her to fetch the items. "The space here in the... um... living room shall be good."
But he took a moment to face her, a serious look overcoming his face. "And, you don't have to do this if you don't want to. It was simply an idea. I can stop any time until I begin. Stopping after I begin the seance could cause more harm than we intend."

Bitter and Biter (who had been eavesdropping from above) sailed in with the ingredients asked, dropping them at Cassiel's feet. "We thought something like this would crop up one day. There are pinky bone fingers up there too, and crow beaks if you want." Ruria soured at her skulls, swatting them away. "Don't tell him about our secret collection!" she cried, and they cackled madly as they disappeared upstairs again. She turned back to Cassiel, sighed at her two companions, but nodded. "It's okay. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, so why not."
She tottered into the center of the floor, kneeling on the wooden surface and then laying down, her long hair splaying out around her almost like a spider's web. "Like this?" she asked, peeking at him from the ground. "There are matches by the fireplace." Though she wouldn't admit it, her heart had begun to beat a little faster, a combination of horror and excitement. "You won't...look up my skirt, will you?" Her eyes momentarily narrowed at him, her hands tugging the hem of it down.

When the items were dropped at his feet, Cassiel smiled softly to the skulls. Apparently they were handy to have around. "Bones and beaks are not needed, but thank you for the offer." He muttered, bending to take the chalk. He remained low to the ground as he waddled around and began to draw a pentagram. He had taken a moment to look out the window and figure out where North was then proceeded to point the star in that direction. The design on the floor was simple and yet well practiced, as if he drew it dozens of times before. Around the circle were words, no doubt the language of his race. It took only a few minutes to finish the circle before it was complete.
"Yes, lay in the center with your head at North. Hands at the points, and ankles as well... and no, I will not look up your skirt." Again. He left the part out. When he glanced at Ruria to make sure she had lain down properly, he caught a glimpse of her panties... He just wouldn't tell her that. "Also..." He looked to the direction the skulls had floated off to, frowning slightly. "You two knuckle heads shouldn't enter the circle, no matter what. And I know you can hear me." He warned. There was no way he could guarantee their safety.
Once Ruria was situated on the floor, he walked around the circle leaving a trail of salt. He wasn't sure what was going to happen but he wasn't going to take any chances. Salt was a simple ingredient and yet powerful, able to lock any sort of evil within it... Hopefully it was strong enough to keep Ruria's dark side contained. Salt lain out and lit candles placed at the points, the tall man moved to stand at the North point for the spiritual influence. "Ruria... I apologize now if it does hurt. As I said, I don't know what will happen." He warned once more, and then his demeanor seemed to change.
He was serious.
A seance was no laughing matter and Cassiel took it very seriously. He stood still and began to chant in the language of Exorcisma. Each word left his mouth with ease, adding to a complex spell to breach the physical plane and reach into the spiritual. Golden eyes focused in the air as he continued to chant, the air thinning around them. Something as going to happen, he could feel it in the pit of his stomach. As Ruria laid there, she would feel that familiar pull of darkness. Cassiel managed to wake it from its slumber; and it wanted to answer!
Everything was going well, until one slip of the tongue. The man caught the mistake seconds after the word left his mouth and he took a sharp intake of breath. s**t! The girl would feel a pulling inside herself, threatening to tear her apart! And then it happened. In the blink of an eye the girl would find her viewpoint had changed. No longer was she lying upon the floor looking at the ceiling, but instead she was looking down from above; and she wasn't alone.
Ruria's spirit floated above her body, only the strong bond of life keeping it tethered in place. But she wasn't alone. That darkness that haunted her soul, the evil that compelled her to the dark arts, floated beside her like a shadow. It's dark shadowy tendrils wrapped around the girl in a bond even Cassiel could never break. This evil wanted nothing more than to consume her soul. But this was not what he intended, he never wanted to remove the souls from the body! "Um... don't worry, I can fix this." Cassiel said reassuringly. He wasn't completely sure how, but he'd fix it. As he stood there below the girl, he bit his lip nervously. "Are you still with me Ruria?"

There was a feeling of being ripped apart, in every direction, and Ruria let out a piercing scream, her muscles tensing and back arching, fingernails digging violently into the wood of the floor, enough to leave scratch marks. Her body was on fire, oh, how it hurt, how it burned!
"S-stop it!" she screamed, but she couldn't even hear her own voice. The pain her body felt had suddenly stopped, but the hollow ache still emanated profusely. Why was she standing? When did she stand, and who was this at her feet....?
She could hear Cassiel's words, but his question went unanswered as she stared at her seemingly lifeless body on the ground in front of her for what seemed like forever, before her ghostly eyes raised towards his, and fathomless rage filled her. Is this what the world wanted of her? To be a still doll, lifeless corpse?
Unlike the spirits he was so used to, she did not spill one word to him, even though her lips moved, her mouth turning into a grim gritting of teeth, and the room around them darkened, even shrinking the candle's lights to almost nothing, as if a heavy blanket of blackness was placed over the entire world. The ground shook, rattled, howled, and Ruria's darkness-entangled spirit did nothing but glare coldly, quietly.
Then, finally, words, a gloomy voice filled with malcontent and despair.
"You wish to kill me, too?"
It seemed removing the bodily cage had aggravated the element of darkness that writhed inside her, and it became clear that it was not a separate entity at all, but her own heart that disbelieved her ways, her words, her life, and wanted only to protect itself through any means. Ruria's wishes were those of strength and justice, but deep inside her, her heart wanted to snuff out all light, and destroy, destroy, destroy.
Am I...somewhere, deep in my heart...am I evil?
"Struggling to have a purpose in life, aren't you?" she growled towards Cassiel, not herself at all, but completely influenced by that dark part of her. "Wandering around like a fool without an errand, meddling and believing you're of purpose to someone, when all you are........is a walking carcass! Meat for creatures like myself to rip apart and satiate our hunger!"
Had she control of her body, she would have done her utmost to bring this miserable being to hell with her. How dare he toy with her life in such a clumsy manner, how dare he look at her with such eyes...

You wish to kill me, too? Those words spoken by Ruria seemed to strike at his heart. The Exorcisma quickly shook his head no, his eyes pleading for understanding. He knew no excuse would calm her anger and yet he had to offer something. "I’m not trying to kill you, I’m only giving you the chance to understand who you really are." That was the best defense he could entitle himself to, and he knew it held little weight in this situation. She was ready to kill him! That thought frightened him enough to take a step back; though he was careful not to break the circle of salt upon the floor as the mineral kept them contained within. Although not powerful, he didn’t want to risk unleashing her in this condition.
But her demeaning insults seemed to have an effect on the man. His eyes lowered to the girl on the floor as he listened; a deep frown etched across his face. He never meant harm; that was the truth of it. Sure, he aimlessly wandered his path in life. But what was living without learning, and to learn he had to abandon his fear and cross the threshold of his shrine into the ever expanding human world. To find the good in them. That was his original goal when he decided to learn about the humans by entering their cities and towns. Although he was faced with some resentment, fear and prejudice, several individuals he met along the way proved to be decent people. With each visit to town that handful of people is growing.
Finding that inner strength, the man stood his ground as he lifted scornful eyes towards the woman. The anger was clearly written on his face and it was a look that he rarely held; on that was quickly erased. It transformed into a carefree smile, something he was more accustomed to. He couldn't let her hate-filled words get the better of him. "If I wanted to kill you," he started to say in a soft and gentle tone, as if talking to a child. "I would have done so back on the dirt road. Killing you is not my intention, and you know this. Presuming otherwise will just anger me, Miss Ruria. However…" He paused, looking the spiritual side of the woman over with curious eyes. "this ‘meddling’ situation has opened my eyes to a stronger side of my magic. Removing the spirit from the body was a lot easier than I could have imagined, so I thank you for the opportunity." Now he was mocking her. That smile on his face only grew as he continued to watch the girl’s spirit. He could only imagine how much rage was within that little frame. "If anyone is a carcass right now, it would be you. I could easily destroy you as you are now and leave your body to waste on the floor, but instead I will return your spirit. By now you should have realized what you are by having a better look at yourself. I’d say, simply put, you’re magic in a meat popsicle; just like the rest of us."
Ok, sure. Provoking her probably wasn’t the best thing to do. But the Exorcisma had to use a little back bone. Putting up a front with a confident air about him hid the fact he was scared in his boots! Sure, he had the advantage here as spiritual magic was his element. But she could easily turn on him the minute he reversed the spell. In this case, he’d have to take his chances… Not wanting to anger the woman anymore than he already had, he rose his hands and began to speak in his native tongue once again. That same pulling sensation began to suck Ruria’s spirit back towards her body to once again encase it within its living vessel. Only once the spell completed its reversal did Cassiel take several large steps back, placing as much distance between him and Ruria as possible. A string of apologize was ready to fire on his lips the second she began to cuss him out for what he had done.

The girl's body twitched, and she gave a groan as she sat up, reunited with her fleshy prison again. At first, Ruria seemed simply dazed, a little confused as she looked around, but as her eyes fell on Cassiel, the soft, rosy hues suddenly became violent, and she glared heatedly as she stood up.
"H-How dare you! You glimpsed my panties, and then..and then...! Just...How dare you, you presumptuous...perverted.... How dare you!" Before the exorcisma could comprehend her sudden accusation, or that she had even moved, she was inches from him, and had struck him hard across the face, leaving a glowing red palm print on his fair-skinned cheek. "You didn't say you were going to do that to me, you ..you...you great..fathead!" Ruria was not one usually prone to such things as anger, but having not only her panties peeked at, and her body dislocated from her...it was the biggest invasive feeling she had ever had, and she wanted him to pay. Pay!
The girl was pissed, and as curses and accusations flew out of her mouth, she encroached upon him, mere inches from his face, until she had backed him into a wall, and locked him in place with one arm on each side of him in a dominating manner. "You will pay so dearly for this invasion..." she murmured darkly, a foreboding female rage igniting in her eyes. ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★✰

The slap to his face was the first shock, finding his back against the wall was the second. Cassiel stood there wide-eyed as the girl pinned him in his place. No one had ever struck him in such a manor, and were all women so crazy about their undergarments? All her insults and curses fell on large, deaf ears as he assessed the situation. He was twice her size and yet she easily kept him in his place! In an attempt to stop her from doing anymore harm to his person, he acted quickly. His hands rose to loop under her arms, lifting Ruria right off her feet! A swift, sweeping motion and they changed places, the wall now pressed against Ruria's back as Cassiel used his larger build to pin her in place. Both hands tightly gripped her wrists, holding them just above her head.
"Now, just calm down a moment..." He muttered, his voice begging her to comply. He had to lower his posture slightly to be eye to eye with the irate woman."I can tell your with me, any moron could see that. But did you learn nothing about yourself? You at least confirmed what you feared, that you are that darkness." He didn't dare let go of the girl's wrists, and a leg stood guard over his manly bits. "And... I apologize for looking at your undergarments..."

In a woosh of tangled arms and reverberating words, Ruria found herself switched in places with Cassiel, her back against the wall she had just pushed him, her wrists held imprisoned in the man's hands and his overbearing frame. How she hated to be so small, sometimes.
She remained silent at his question, huffily shifting her gaze away, her chest rising and falling with her agitated breathing.
"It'll kill me." she said finally, her voice stony and far away. She refused to look him in the eyes. "It'll kill me, and I will have only existed for the purpose of it to kill me." That is what I feel. She finally chanced a glance back at him, the anger extinguishing from her features, but that hollow and distant sadness returned to them. "You've sated your curiosity, I assume. You've found out that, yes, such an innocent little girl can be born with this evil. Are you satisfied? You know my fate."
She strained her wrists against his grip, pushing her smaller frame against his in a bid for freedom, going so far as to walk both of her legs up his body to try to push him off, slipping - and ending up with them wrapped around his middle in a very suggestive manner. For a moment, she froze, unblinking, her eyes widening and her mouth slowly opening in the horror of it all.

The heat rose in his face as the girl found herself wrapped around his waist. The friction to his groin caused a shiver to travel his spine, and the Exorcisma went wide-eyed from the tingling sensation. It woke some sort of ancient knowledge that all males had and his body demanded things his mind refused to allow. Although he was a hermit, he had received the 'birds and the bees' talk from his parents when he became of age.
In silence, he released his hold on one of her wrists to support her weight. He didn't want Ruria to fall and then have her accuse him of dropping her. So his hand cradled her bottom as he shifted their weight away form the wall. "I'm going to let you go, but I don't want you to fall." He warned, releasing her second hand to hold her in his arms. He was surprised at how light Ruria was though he wouldn't say that to her. He didn't want to be slapped again for assuming the girl was heaver than she looked. Girls were sensitive about their weight! She seemed to have calmed down and didn't want to ignite that fire again with an ill placed weight comment...
"Ruria, fight it. Don't let it kill you." He said gently as he stood there, the blush on his face fading as his body began to relax. Although they were close, nothing would become of it. His body simply jumped the gun and reacted. When the girl was finally on her own two feet, he removed his arms and took a step away. "You're much too intelligent to let something like fate dictate what you do. In fact, I'd hate to learn you simply allowed yourself to be killed without a fight. It will be tough, but you'll find a way to live the life you want. And although I am guilty of being curious, my intentions to help outweighed my curiosity. Unfortunately I don't think I helped in this case, it wasn't a possessing like I assumed. There's nothing more I can do. Well, besides find ways to anger you unintentionally... I seem to be good at that."

Ruria remained petrified as the exorcisma slid a hand under her thigh and supported her weight on his hips, and for a moment she flushed red, panicking yet petrified. Surely he wouldn't....he couldn't, right? Exorcisma didn't like humans that way..did they? But, surely he wouldn't, unless perhaps he was that type who liked to dominate and show just what they could do before ravaging --
Her racing assumptions and fears eased away at his words, and she settled on her own feet, crossing her arms under her bosom, refusing to meet his eyes, her face still flushed. "I-intelligence has nothing to do with it," she murmured, turning away from him entirely. There was just something about intimate contact with a male, even accidental, that...did something to her. It was like a pull, a calling, even though she didn't outwardly want something like that. Or did she? It was too hard to tell, lately, with all her shadowy thoughts. "Perhaps I am simply evil at heart, and suffer because I fight it so."

Cassiel stood in silence as he watched Ruria turn away from him. She seemed so distant and lost although she was within his reach. He had to finally accept it; he couldn’t help everyone. Sometimes his ego did get the best of him. Stepping forward once more, he reached out for Ruria. His large hands gently settled upon her small shoulders, giving a gentle squeeze of comfort. Whenever he felt down, his mother would do the same. Somehow her touch would change his mood… Sure, she might not get the same comfort but he simply couldn’t walk away.
"A light shines brighter in the darkness. Ruria, you will find your answer within yourself." He muttered, his lips rather close to her ear. "I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record here, so I’ll end it. The conversation I mean… I don’t want you to think I’m going to kill you again."
Stepping around the girl, he reached forward to gently cup her chin. He had no idea how intimate the act was, he simply wanted the girl to look up at him. Only when their eyes met did he release her chin. "I want to apologize to you, for what I have done today. You were right… my curiosity got the best of me, even if I had the best of intentions. Can you forgive me Ruria?"
