It was hard to believe that New Years Eve had come around once again. Another year had passed; that gave Zein, the Raynebow Valley florist, another year under his belt as a town resident. Two years... two long years since he had moved off that island... and he was doing just fine. The sound of the bitter wind pressed hard against his store walls. Although it was a holiday, New Years was that one time of year that he kept things open before moving a stand out to town square with the rest of the shop owners. The flowers he'd be displaying were quite unique to the end of the winter season and rather fitting to the festivities. It was a little creation that he called "Snowy Explosion". The inside of the flower was the purest of white, but the outer rims of the petals were bursting with all sorts of color. It was a dazzling sight to say the least and the townsfolk loved them. With the bright light of day shining through his shop windows, Zein had been moving back and fourth between the counter and the back room which lead to a small, indoor greenhouse. It was the spot he kept all of his homegrown plants in order to keep them fresh and alive for sale. These flowers had grown beautiful and it lifted his spirit to see that they were perky and ready to be taken home. A comfortable, soft smile painted his face as he wrapped his arms around a few pots and proceeded to walk back towards the shop counter.

________......................................................

As always, the petit woman left her home with a smile plastered on her face. It was New Year’s Eve, the weather was starting to tune to Spring, and the sky was clear! Granted, it was still a little nippy, but what could you expect? It was still lovely nonetheless! Which was, obviously, the reason Carina wouldn’t be allowing herself to waste the day away any time soon –with a small basket’s contents covered with a checkered kerchief hanging off her arm, she started towards the Flower Shop. Her darling Ricky and Asariel wouldn’t be home until later anyways, so she didn’t see any problem with visiting some people herself; even mom’s needed to socialize with the youngin’s once in a while! Despite her leisurely pace, the pinkette made her way across the village fairly quickly, and with ease; it was but another reminder of how much she enjoyed Raynebow Valley’s serenity, compared to Aliquam’s constant bustling. With her smile still in place, the woman pushed open the door of her destination, seeing Zein moving about with some of his potted flowers. With all the colours and sweet scents, this most definitely had to be one of her favourite places to visit –of course, the people who were often around just added to her enjoyment. ”You’re hard at work, I see. Preparing for the festival, I assume?” she questioned with a light smile, before motioning to her basket, ”Might you have some time to spare for tea with an old lady? I just got a parcel from my family with a new tea that’s apparently all the way from Rosae, and couldn’t even think about trying it alone.”

The soft ring of the bell over the store door had chimed, catching the brunette's attention. Hearing footsteps, he had just enough time to set what flowers he had in his hand down on the counter and take notice as to who was approaching him. A brightly smiling Carina had waltzed in with a basket over her shoulder. She asked if he was preparing for the festival. With a hushed, hard voice, his response was short but sweet. "Yeah. I've got something... special this year." It was a bit of a habit for Zein to pause while speaking. The pinkette was somewhat easier to talk to than the majority of girls he was placed in front of. Perhaps it was because she was a common customer and always tried to strike conversation with him. It never really occurred to him, but it wasn't something that bothered him. Another question had been tossed in the air as he had begun to turn to go back into the greenhouse. Carina was wanting to try some foreign tea with him. Zein wasn't all too sure as to why she picked him for such a thing, but it sort of made him feel at ease. He had been working all morning to get these flowers ready for the festival. Perhaps a tea break wouldn't be so bad. "That sounds great, actually." He excused himself momentarily, wanting to finish his task before settling for a break. "I just... need to grab a few more pots from the back. It'll only take a moment."

Oh winter. It was a delightfully sad season and one Frelia had conflicted feelings about. The snow was so beautiful to look at! It was pristine and pure—it looked like a giant white, fuzzy, blanket over the earth. But all of her lovely plants took this time of year to sleep and Frelia missed every single one of them. There was still a lot to do, don’t get her wrong! There was always something she needed to do—the earth never took a day off and she’d be there to take care of whatever plant was thriving no matter what season! But that didn’t keep the winter season from being her least favorite; it wasn’t as colorful as the rest of the seasons. That was the real downer, everything was cold and felt almost dead. Everything except the people that is.

As Frelia walked about the town she noticed people still going about their days and it was always good to see people doing well. She may have been the sprite to take care of plants and the like but she still worried about the people too. A little shiver went down her spine as her boots carried her lightly through the snow. What she wouldn’t give just to glide over it instead of trudge her way through it, even if her steps were light and quick. The green haired female had a destination in mind, that is why her movements were fluid and precise. “Good afternoon!” Frelia chirped as she pushed the door to the flowershop open and hurried inside. The flowershop was a lovely place and oh look! “Carina~!” Frelia knocked snow off of her boots before moving further inside, waving enthusiastically to the pink haired woman and then Zein. “Hi, hi, Zein! How are you two do—Oh what lovely flowers!” Her attention faltered as she leaned down and touched one of the flowers gently with a finger, cooing in adoration.

________......................................................

Carina almost forgot how quiet some men could be, when she had been with her loudly complaining son and his hyper active boyfriend only a few hours before –she didn’t mind in the least, though. Peace and quiet was always a welcome break in the midst of the chaos of her family. ”Well that’s hardly surprising; it’s a new, beautiful sight every festival you decide to chip in, no two ways about it!” she chimed with a small laugh. The sweet words were hardly a lie, either! Zein really was a master at what he did! It was obvious that he enjoyed his job, which was most definitely more than she could say for some people she knew… ”Oh pfft! Take your time, darling! I’m not expecting you to just drop everything in an instant for me!” Carrie assured with a mild wave of her hand. Her attention was soon diverted, though, as the light chime of a bell sounded behind her, soon followed by the chirp of a girlish voice. The pinkette’s face brightened at the sight of Friela, the girl stopping short of asking a question when her eyes landed on the flowers. Often, the middle aged woman wondered which of the two in her company liked plants more. ”Well hello there, sweet pea. They’re as gorgeous as ever, I say. And by the looks of it, you seem to agree. Now, would you like to join Zein and I for a cup of tea?”

When Carina complimented his input on the festivities and how much she always liked to see his flowers, Zein became a little nervous. It made him blush the lightest tint of pink and he reached his arm up to rub the back of his head. With his usual half-smile, he gave his thanks to the older woman. "I... appreciate that. It's not really all that much but... it's fun." It was no surprise that his guest was as patient as she was beautiful. She didn't mind that he was finishing up and it was nice to hear that she'd be waiting. The scarred florist decided not to waste any time. It wasn't polite to keep a woman waiting, y'know. With a simple nod, he brushed through the door to the greenhouse without so much as a sound. There were only 5 more of these flowers in here. Good, for a moment Zein thought there were more than that. There was a lot more to go around this time of year than usual. Winter was always a flower stealer, but this type of flower was a survivor. Lifting the pots into his arms one by one, the chime of the door's opening bell echoed to his ear and the muffled voice of happiness soon followed. The brunette had a guess to who it was. He staggered momentarily to gain his balance while holding all of these plant pots and slowly but carefully moved through the greenhouse aisle and back into the store's small shop center. He couldn't see around the pot that misguided his eyes, but he could tell by the sound of the voice who was with him and Carina. His focus was someplace else, making his response a little less stressful and shy-like. "Good Afternoon, Frelia." Her attention was immediately brought to the flowers he had been carting to the counter. There were a lot of them and each one frizzed with its own color. They looked like fireworks and snow and that was the exact design Zein hoped for. It was nice that these ladies liked his creations. Hopefully the rest of Raynebow Valley would see them in a similar fashion. "They're for... the New Years festival tonight."

Frelia lifted the flower up a little more with her finger, golden eyes observing its miraculous color in awe. Zein really did know how to grow such amazing flowers and in the winter season too! It was wonderful to know there were people that were so devoted to plants even during the roughest plant season of the year. Zein really was a trooper! The world needed more people like him. Healthy plants were always a good thing in Frelia’s opinion. “Yes, they are lovely!” she agreed, nodding enthusiastically at Carina’s comment. “I love all plants. And Zein has the best flowers of any place in the world!” Of course when she said ‘world’, the green haired female threw her arms into the air to emphasize her point. “Everyone needs some flowers to cheer them up in the cold weather. They’ll be a big hit at the festival tonight, I just know it.” She turned a bright smile to the florist. “Well done Zein!” The flowers were spectacular to look at, who wouldn’t love them? Such coloration was remarkable besides, all the flowers looked healthy and she swore she could hear their little whispers. Quite happy whispers at that. Zein certainly had a way with plants.

“Tea?” Frelia placed a finger to her lips, head tilting as she looked to the pink haired woman. Tea sounded tasty… “I’d love some!” she chirped, blinking and blushing as she brought both hands to her mouth. Ah…inside voice, inside voice. No need to shout—she still needed to work on that. “Ah…haha…I-I mean…I would like some if you two don’t mind me joining you.” Frelia responded, trying to correct herself of her outburst by toning down her voice and folding her hands neatly in front of her. Of course this didn’t stop her from rocking on her feet in a childish sort of manner.

Dear Goddess, he was adorable. She couldn’t suppress her smile when the fellow blushed and rubbed the back of his head; how he was single, she hadn’t a clue. If it were the city, girls would be lining up to date someone like him –well, at least, sensible girls would be. Nonetheless, that wasn’t the case, but the woman’s motherly side did hope the lad would find his special someone soon, just as she hoped for her boys. ”Well it most definitely shows that you have fun. And for the better, at that!” Carina watched as the brunette disappeared into the greenhouse, and let her eyes were wandering about, glancing at the multitude at colours and shapes of the plants around, when the bundle of energy came in. A peculiar trio, she imagined they appeared; a timid man with a scar, a girl with green hair and a short attention span, and a pink haired woman over twice the age of the other two. Granted, the colours hardly stood out in this valley. No matter; a tourist would hardly note it while passing through, with the current condition of both Raynebow Valley and Monotone Springs, and such. ”He does, doesn’t he?” she chimed, ”Why, I’d say he’s a master florist, and no one can convince me otherwise.” Carina smiled, agreeing with Frelia’s statement whole heartedly, ”Of course they will be. When was the last time his flowers weren’t a blast?” It was hardly a matter of time before the younger girl chirped her acceptance to the invitation, which pleased the seamstress; when it came to tea, the more the merrier! ”Well, sweet pea, I wouldn’t have offered if I minded. Zein, is it alright with you if we have an addition to our tea time?” She was positive it wouldn’t be a problem, but she wanted to be courteous enough to ask anyways; after all, he was part of their original tea party too!

Goodness, this was embarrassing. Zein was becoming flustered as the two ladies before him passed compliments back and forth about the flowers that he had planned to give out at the festivities. The more they talked of it, the less he saw a right way to approach it. Perhaps it would be better to stay silent. As much as he thought that, his mouth didn't seem to get the memo. "I..... Um....." Well, so much for him being on a roll. The scarred brunette shyly brushed his fingertips through his hair, exposing his deep blue eyes a little more to compensate for his lack of eye contact. His tone was hushed but rough, as usual, as he accepted all of their positive feedback. "Thank You..."

As the conversation took a turn and tea was once again the subject on mind, Zein had caught himself before getting too far into the clouds. It wasn't every day that he had received a compliment from anyone, especially from such lovely women, but he knew that keeping himself level-headed in front of others looked better than daydreaming while someone was talking to him. It had happened before and it wasn't the best time for him to drift, but since then he had been better about it. *Right, tea.* Zein's composure had become somewhat serious as he reassured Carina's request with a steady nod of his head. "Of course. Let me clear the counter and... then we'll have some space."

“I agree!” Frelia chirped as she laced her fingers together behind her back, idly rocking back-and-forth on her heels. “Zein is great with plants and all his flowers are lovely.” Frelia had been coming and going to this shop for a long time now even if Zein was never fully aware of it—she was the Green Sprite after all, it was her job to help take care of all plant life. She would never neglect any plant no matter where it was or whose care it was currently under. Luckily enough though that Zein was really quite gifted when it came to taking care of such delicate little things. It was very heartwarming to know and see, especially whenever he put out new flowers for others to enjoy. If only the rest of the world could enjoy flowers and plants as much as the brunette did; then the world would be a much happier, and better, place. Frelia didn’t care who you were, she believed flowers could really lift a person’s spirits! Yes, even if they didn’t admit to it and denied any form of like towards flowers. “I think the title of Master Florist fits so very well! Just like you’re a Master Sweetheart Miss Carina!”

Frelia looked on over to Zein, humming a little as she tilted her head. It was good to know that she would be allowed to stay and have tea with the two. “Thank you very much!” Usually Frelia bounced all over the place and had little time for socializing because springtime was probably the busiest time of the year for her, but with winter here her hands were less full. Sometimes she didn’t know what to do with herself when she had no plants to tend to. Sure there were some left during the winter but not nearly as many and checking on what was left and seeds that would sprout come the spring, well, Frelia could finish up that job fairly quick. It was nice to be able to spend some downtime with the townspeople. “Oh! I’ll help!” The green haired girl hopped forward and began to help clear off the counter so Zein wouldn’t have to do it all himself. It was always nice to lend a hand and even though she was energetic and absentminded sometimes, Frelia liked to think she could be useful outside the realm of plants. Cleaning a counter off shouldn’t be a difficult task.
