Teirm was encircled by a white wall a hundred feet tall and thirty feet thick. There were two main gates: one on the western side of the city, facing the sea, the other on the southern side, opening to the road. In the northeast sector of the city was a towering citadel, which housed the lighthouse. The city's buildings grew progressively taller from the outside in; the tallest buildings were near the citadel. As explained by Brom, the city was laid out in such a way that pirate attacks could be easily repelled. It is also stated by Jeod that the layout of the city also makes it easy for thieves to run along the rooftops. This measure was only added after Teirm was almost destroyed by one such attack

Teirm had previously been burned to the ground by pirate attacks. After the attacks subsided, the government decided to build Teirm in a tiered formation. Teirm also had a long history of being attacked by Urgals. After the Varden took Urû'baen and set off to capture Teirm, they attempted to negotiate with them first. Lord Risthart demanded Teirm to become an independent City-State, and swearing loyalty to Nasuada, she agreed as well.

The travel from the Urgal Territories had been very long and arduous. Nakka had long since run out of food and had very few crowns on him. He knew he would need to head into a town or somewhere to gain some coinage. Nakka's armor had practically rusted away, what little bits of iron he had still were being held together with strips of leather. Even his shield was battered and splintered, though his most important weapon was intact. For an Urgal Nakka was very well educated. He could manage his own crowns and even spell...mostly. As if to remind him of his hunger, Nakka's stomach rumbled loudly. He grumbled his annoyance as he followed the crowd into Teirm. The walls were very large, though he was sure that a tribe of Urgals could easily get into the city. Once he was in, Nakka was unsure where to go. He needed some crowns, so he headed to the nearest bulletin posting for jobs.

A crier walked onto the streets, scrolls in his bag. His scrawny looking form would make him easy picking for thugs. However, everyone knew who he was and who he worked for, so for their own safety they let him spout what he was ordered to read. He plucked on from it, sealed by the Arabasti royal seal, cracked the seal, unscrolled the parchment, cleared his throat, then read aloud.

"Hear, ye! Hear, ye! By order of Lady Illeosa Arabasti, fair and proud patron of Terim, mercenaries, adventurers, and soldiers alike are to heed her command! The notorious pirate known as Damian has kidnapped one of Lady Arabasti's heirlooms: a ruby, made pure by the very nature that houses us all. Damian was last seen near Surda. Anyone with information should immediately contact a City Watch, and the one soul that returns this heirloom will be rewarded handsomely.'"

With that, the crier rolled the scroll and placed it back into is bag. He began to scamper off as nearby citizens and passersby alike began to talk amongst themselves about the news.

Nakka picked up the sound of a young boy's voice mouthing on about some lady Arabasti, a pirate, Surda, and a ruby. Crown symbols practically appeared in his eyes at this, and he pushed through the crowd to get a good listen. When the boy ran off Nakka rubbed his hands together and set off for the nearest port. He would have to sign on as a deck hand since he could not buy his own passage on a boat. After a few questions were asked Nakka was able to find the docks. He picked one of the surlier looking ships, as Urgals did not often set sail. After haggling for a terrible wage job, Nakka earned himself a spot on the ship the Sea Urchin as a guard. In no time at all, they had set sail for Surda.

Nakka was incredibly happy to have his feet on flat and stable land after such a long time. His equipment was definitely worse for wear. The leather bits he had tied to him were almost ripped and torn straight through. His iron banded wooden shield was dented and split almost to where his arm would be because of the guard. Even the leather grip on his mace was wearing thin. But Nakka was smiling, his sharp teeth poking through the grin. He had gotten the ruby back, which would mean he was getting paid.

After leaving the ship Nakka rushed off to find the keep, which wasn't too had. Teirm was built in such a way that the castle would be in the middle. He walked in side and demanded an audience with the Lady of Teirm. "Nakka hear boy shouting for Ruby. Nakka find Pirate-king and get Ruby. Nakka get crowns now." He said to the guards angrily. He didn't mention anything about the note Damian had given to him because that was for the lady herself.

The kerfuffle that ensued after Nakka demanded an audience was loud enough to draw the Lady's attention. The click-clacking of her heels echoed loudly down the grand hall as she rushed towards the door. A rather annoyingly high pitched voice rang out, shrilly yelling at the guards. "Are you daft, dumb, or deaf? This... Lady Arabasti looked Nakka up and down and did little to hide her disgust. She scrunched up her face at the stench of Nakka and took a step back. A clearly fake smile spread to her face as she clasped her hands together. "Gentleman clearly has my ruby. She gave the guards a dirty look, which had them lifting their weapons out of Nakka's way and allowing him passage. The lady led the way down a carpeted hall and towards the audience chamber. There was a single grand chair in which she sat down in. Lady Arabasti folded her legs and placed a finger against her cheek as she looked once more at Nakka. The lady would be considered very attractive to the human race. She had a wonderful body and was not afraid to accentuate her bosom with a too tight bodice. Her red hair was done up in an immaculate way, and there was a load of perfume and makeup covering her. "Come now Urgal, and hand me my ruby." She said, clapping twice as if Nakka was a dog. "I should like to know how you obtained it."

Nakka had not intended to be rude to the Lady, but she was an a**. He picked up on how she looked at him, as if he was less than what was emptied from her privy at night. But he did have to admit he probably did not smell any better than a privy at that moment. He had rushed here after a very long voyage to give her the damned ruby. To him, the Lady was trying to impress something that would rather mate with a donkey than a human. He grunted in response to her and hobbled close enough that his smell would overwhelm the lady. Nakka took his sweet time digging in his pouch before presenting her with the ruby. He held his hand out before speaking. "Nakka take ship to Aroughs and go to pub. He drink and hear noise. Nakka sees Pirate-King Damian, they...fight and Nakka get the ruby. Nakka gets payment now." He said, making a grabbing motion with his hand.

The Lady shied away from Nakka as he approached, but when he stopped just in front of her she raised the back of her hand to her mouth to suppress the urge to throw up. When the sensation passed the Lady began to furiously fan the air before her nose, trying to keep his stench away. When Nakka held out the ruby, Lady Arabasti gingerly plucked it from his hand, not wanting to defile her glove with his touch. She held it up to the light as if to see if it was real. When Nakka finished his story the Lady's face turned from falsely generous to annoyance. "Yes you'll have your payment, Urgal." She snapped her fingers and a paige stepped forth, carrying a pouch of 300 crowns in his hand. The paige handed it to Nakka, and then quickly retreated. "There, now shoo. I've important business to attend to." The Lady said as she admired the ruby.

Nakka quickly snatched up the pouch and opened it, pulling on the strings that held it secure. His eyes spawned crown symbols as he beheld the money before him. Nakka opened up the top of his breeches and shoved the gold down there, giving him an unsightly bulge between his legs. He always put his money there in case some pickpocket tried to snatch his crowns. The Lady had dismissed him, but Nakka had one more thing to give her. He grabbed the folded letter and presented it to the Lady. After word he beat a hasty retreat before the Lady could read it. Nakka ran all the way to an obscure tavern and purchased himself a hearty meal, cackling with delight. After, Nakka found himself wandering through the marketplace, selecting out some new equipment for himself.

The Lady grabbed the note from Nakka and unfolded it, her eyes going over each line. As she did, her expression of joy melted until she was red-faced and looked like a harpy. The note was crumpled in her hands and she tossed it to the floor. "DAMIAAAAAAAAN!" She shouted shrilly, practically breaking class. The Lady stomped her way to her personal chamber, leaving the paige alone with the note. He picked it up and read the lines carefully.

"Dear Lady Arabasti,

Where did you find this guy? He's one hell of a fighter. But that ruby was one of three I have stolen from your ship. I wonder if that one is the real one?

-Sincerely,
The Pirate King Damian.
