We've been studying for years the Charizard family. It appears that Charizards only see their mates once a year on top of a high mountain; this is where they all come to mate. Although mates only see each other once a year on top of this mountain, they are pairs for life; and when one of them dies, the other never goes back to the mountain top and spends the rest of its life alone. Charizards also appear to be loners. The female Charizard will care for her young until their Charmelions evolve into Charizards. The newly evolved Charizards then leave and live on their own. When the Charizards meet on top of the mountain and they look for a mate, the males flap their wings widely and the flame on their tails get large. The males will also challenge each other too. They flap their wings widely to show they are ready to mate. The large flame on their tails are to impress the females by their strength. When the males challenge each other, the fights are brutal. They slam their tails and necks until the other can't anymore. When one of them loses, there are injuries to the bones and the loser also loses the right to mate until another year passes. After the Charizards mate, the females leave and go to a volcanic area, the perfect nursery for their young. When a female's pregnant, she builds her nest out of straw she finds. They lay one to three eggs each year. The female guards her eggs for three months, hardly ever eating anything. After three months, the eggs are finally able ready to hatch. The young Charmanders have a difficult obsticle when it comes to hatching, it is their first battle they must endure and win in able to survive. Most of the Charmanders in a nest won't be able to hatch, sometimes none of them are able to hatch, which kills them. When the surviving Charmanders hatch, the mother Charizard takes them with her arms and takes them to a special kind of tree that only grows near volcanoes. She feeds the baby Charmanders, as well as herself, the berries that grow only on these trees. She also takes the branches from this tree and builds a new nest, so that it is easier for her to feed her young. Once the young Charmanders evolve into Charmelions, the mother Charizards are able to hunt on their own more, but they always return to their nests. The Charmelions learn how to hunt from their mothers and when their mothers are taking care of her eggs or is away to go hunt, the Charmelions often help take care of the eggs. But there are also times when the Charmelions don't wait for their mothers to come back with food if she is asleep or away from her nest. The Charmelions will then take the opportunity to feed on the eggs. This does not happen often, but when it does, it is devastating for the mother Charizard when she finds out her eggs were destroyed. When she finds out her eggs are destroyed by her Charmelion, the Charmelion is banished; with very few chances of survival. Charizards may be aggressive, but they are excellent mothers. When a female Charizard loses her young, she often won't eat, which is extremely risky because they often starve themselves to death. Another reason the female Charizard guards her nest so well is because other Charizards may come and feed on her eggs or even on her young Charmanders who've already hatched. Once the Charmelions evolve into Charizards, they leave the nest and live on their own. The male Charizards always stay on top of the mountain, though harsh snow storms are often ripping through. This allows the male Charizards to get stronger, and the strongest males survive. They make their homes in caves of the mountain.
