"Run," it seemed for an instant as though his legs had given. The fluid motion of his actions almost to simple to be practiced. Digging the balls of his feet into the ground, feeling every loose muscle tighten and release as he lunged forward. His tails dancing and streaming the air behind him. Fingers carving grooves in the hard packed earth closer to the forest.

He didn't have to glance back, "RUN!"



"You underestimate yourself," looking away quickly. "I never said it would happen quickly. It could take a couple years, but it will grow back. I've seen worse injuries on your kind. Limbs severed, and years later the same limb returned." A somber smile crossed her lips, "I've heard stories of the races of non-humans. If you want it back sooner, then there is a group of dwellers in the deepest part of the western desert."

Thinning her lips, "father and brother never went after them because they weren't sure the race existed. They could heal you wing in days." Pulling her lower lip between her teeth, "I don't think Edward would mind if I showed you."

There was no warning to the massive jaws the crashed through the water, trailing lines of pink as blood was flushed from the striped fur. Claws biting into the soft water logged lake bed. Massive fangs sank into the fey that held her, jerking and trashing leaving only half of being that was present a moment before. Glowing red eyes lighting the world under the water. A single tail coiled around her, lifting her with him. The mass of his body dripping with water, and splattered with red. Stepping up onto the shore, his tail leaving her back on the edge of the water.

Compared to the humans left he was nothing short of a monster, his fur stained pink where the water had tried to rinse the blood away. The ground at his paws a waste land. There was nothing left but humans, holding their weapons high. Growling as he lowered his body towards the ground. The growl meant one thing, they would die if they didn't run.



"Someone my brother found wandering in the mountains. He said that he was part of a war party headed south along the mountains and brother thought he would make a good watchdog for me." Her body relaxed visibly, "exactly what he is... I don't know. I'm not even sure if his name is Edward, but he told me about them. The race in the desert."

"They hide beneath the sands of a changing world, their lives as transient as the land they call home. In the west, under the sun, only when it rains." Shrugging, "I don't really know what he meant, I was never good a riddles."

Flicking his hand, clearing it of the clinging blood. His upper lip curled in distaste at the thick scent of death on the air. The fur on his tails standing on end, his ears prickling at the smallest sound. Standing over the dreaming woman, "it's time to get up." When she didn't stir he knealt down. Tapping the side of her face, "wake up."

When she still didn't wake he leaned closer, "do you fear the world that much? That you'd rather spend you time asleep in a forest dreaming of things you had in the past?" As soon as he'd finished his little chiding he rose and moved towards the water, wishing to remove the last of the blood clinging to his skin.



"I was hoping you'd understand it better," eyes moving slowly from one thing to the next. Taking in the different plants and colors that made up the forest. She was sure she looked like a child admiring fine clothes in store with the way she stared. Though she couldn't bring herself to care, underneath it all she could still feel the fear. The fear of being out here, away from everything she knew. This was freedom and it didn't feel as liberating as she had hoped it would.

"I ate them," was all he said. Brushing water off his shoulder, looking towards his clothing. "You were nearly drowned," glancing at the pink tint in the water. It was slowly fading away but what clung to it was still noticeable.



"If we can make it to that hill," pointing to a rise in the trees a head of them, "we could defend ourselves better if something comes along. All I have is this knife so we're at a bit of a disadvantage. If we come across a town I'll have to take a sword."
