"Yes, I am, and our eventual target is MUCH older, and much much more experienced, if not actively smarter. How do you think he manages to just turn up out of the blue with no prior warning? He's better at that, and being freaky, than me. Something to think on, hmm?"
Sliding into the passenger seat, and relegating Corbin to travel in the back with the kit, Roan plugged a sat nav into the dash, and clicked it on. Scrolling through a few options, she settled back and closed her eyes as a tinny voice started trying to give directions, not realising they were in an underground garage, well off the marked map.
"Drive out to the main road, then follow the directions until it gets horrendously confused and lost again. If you end up in the middle of a field in the middle of nowhere, you found the right place. Wake me up when we get there."
Resettling her shoulders, she effectively zoned out and went to sleep, or as close to it as Kindred-ly possible, refusing to be woken until such time as they reached the vague destination.
"....please drive to highlighted route...... please drive to highlighted route.... please dri.... calculating..... after 500 yards, turn left."

"Well, you 'eard teh lady driver. Onward 'n' upward to butt ******** nowhere. Destination crop circle."
Flopping back against the seat already at work on lighting a new cigarette he turned his gaze to the duffel, pondering a moment on having a nosey though quickly the idea bored him.
Instead he'd sit and work on his claws, trying to get a better hang on forming the hollow tools he'd need for this mission.

The Lady's eyes remained shut for the duration of the hour drive to ******** nowhere, Durem. Twitches in her face and the odd flick of her head indicated she dreamt while in this twilight state, though she made no sound.
Only when Nines pulled off the well worn roads and onto beaten tracks did she begin to stir.
"It is time."
"You have answers I seek..."
"I am merely the shadow of a memory. Go."
Snapping awake from the dream, the voice, the hauntingly familiar eyes, she glanced to the side at Nines, both eyes red, and spoke.
"Keep driving straight ahead, slowly."
Then she unbuckled her belt, slid out the window, and onto the roof, gripping the roof rails with her tail.
She could feel the ancient energy beneath the ground, a seam of raw power from a time before life was ever conceived on the planet, when everything was fire and ash. the world had spun faster then, and if one knew where to look, HOW to look, and how to feel, the seam could be tweaked, opened, its energy added to ones own and....
The concentration required was excessive. It was why she had been 'sleeping' on the way here. Focusing. Meditating. Clearing the mind for the task ahead. Shadows reached out from under the wheel wells of the jeep and slid sideways through the world into the seam and opened a door...
It crackled briefly, darkly, before the night opened up a dark wound, like the night sky reached down its hand and pulled open an unseen zip. Corposant energy rippled along the edge of the cut in space, before settling to a gentle glow, as of the stars in the sky, framing the edges.
"Drive through. Swiftly. This cannot hold for long."

"What the ******** ******** upright in the back seat at the sudden theatrics Corbin reached for his GunBlade though as Roan exited the vehicle paused and blinked a few times. He then drew the weapon and leaned forward between the two front seats and watched with a derp like awe as physics began corroding before them. The more he saw of it however, the more it started to remind him of the Daemon Amatsu.
"What teh s**t is goin' on boss?!"

"Horrific abuse of power, Corbin. Obtenebrate, at its core, but with a certain je ne sais quoi courtesy of a Daemon and old power. It's why we had to come here specifically."
She could feel the peticule hemmoraging in her eyes as pressure stabbed at the inside of her skull, blood starting to leak from her tear ducts, but the portal would hold for long enough. And Egypt would be reached a lot quicker than any other way.

Nines did as he was instructed, wheeling about slowly and letting the vehicle tool its way along. All seemed normal enough, if a little unusual, until the world started doing weird s**t. He threw a worried glance at Roan as time and space began chewing a hole in itself. The bloody tears dribbling down her face didn't help his confidence any, and he hesitated for a second after her order. Looking once again, he blinked, then threw the rover in gear and floored it. They tore into the rift she had opened headlong as he white knuckled the steering wheel and gritted his teeth hard enough he feared they may crack.

"Abuse is right!"
Casting his eye to the navigator, he made quick note of where they were, before Iden decided quick wasn't quick enough in getting through the rift. It had to be quick and reckless as ********, sudden acceleration catching Corbin off guard and with a bump in the 'road' to aid, he was hurled into the cieling of the vehicle then swiftly bucked into the boot over the back seat. Kids, wear your seat belts.

Had it not been for the strain of keeping the portal open, she'd have laughed at the joint reactions from the men accompanying her. Laughed simply for their expressions, of course, because the worries were very real. it WAS possible to get it wrong and end up either in the middle of an ocean, in blazing sunlight on the wrong continent with terminal sunburn or even to get stuck between realms.
Such was not to be the case today however. With a slew to the side, the jeep would emerge into the cool desert of Egypt, stars glinting overhead, some of them obscured by the peak of nearby pyramids.
A wind colder than the arctic itself brushed over the car as the tear in reality sealed itself, and Roan flopped gratefully back into her seat in the vehicle, using a tissue to blot the blood from her eyes.
Rubbing them ruefully, she fast scrolled through the sat nav settings, then reset it on the dash.
"As you were, gents."
"Calculating... Please drive to indicated route.... please drive to indicated route...."
Settling back, she again closed her eyes. They were still an hours drive from their final destination after all.

Crammed in the boot on his back, legs up against the door and boots planted on the cieling Corbin grumbled as he looked for his cigarettes, and that flask he was now so glad he brought.
It was only a few seconds later, after he'd lit the cigarette that he was scratching at his scalp. A few more seconds before he realized.
"BAH, ********' sand pit. Close teh window!"
He'd then offer up the pack of cigarettes over the back seat to the pair in the front with his tail as he drank from the flask, and went back to his training with the claws, grumbling like a sulky leprechaun about the sand already bugging him.
