“Once upon a time” is a quite well known introduction for many of the fabulous and magical fairytales we hear throughout our lives. Books, movies, television shows all show different renditions of the stories, a change between each new telling. What if there was more of a reason behind the ‘updated’ version? Of course, I mean, more than just the fact that the writer wanted a ‘happier’ ending, a more ‘family friendly’ one.
Well, that’s why Ever After Academy exists. The students that attend are literally the characters from beloved childhood tales. From Snow White down to Cinderella and everything in between. Princesses, princes, wicked queens, faeries, even the Greek Gods. Every mystical fairytale character attends in a new form every so often.
There are so many stories to tell, however, ours is focused on one particular set of children, all sharing the commonplace setting in their story. Wonderland. Yes, the characters from Lewis Carroll’s classic tale are quite real and quite….kooky. But, when banded together, they do make a powerful force.
The reason why I mention is because it is part of EEA history. Though, very little believe. Quite odd, if I do say so myself. A bunch of fairytale characters unable to believe the history of the very school they stay tied to for the rest of their existence? Who they, themselves, are products of imagination? Irony.
The last time there was a group of Wonderland children this great in number in attendance at the academy at the same time, things got a little out of hand. After all, they are all a bit mad, but not afraid to get things done. Everything was written off as a fluke, a big yarn. The last kids couldn’t have possibly started a war at the academy, such a thing was unheard of. Tis but a story to scare the administrators into keeping the pact of their offices, to take care of the children, put them first. As humans do, the destined character roles for the heads of departments and dean grew greedy. Why let the power of the fairytales slip from their grasp? They could keep the children tied to the school until they died and could keep the power at their availability. Well, the characters started catching on.
Factions are being started in secret amongst those students who wish to live a life of their own, to not be forever chained to the school who claimed to have ‘rescued’ them from their mundane, sometimes horrible lives. And, as stated, the one that shall be focused on is that of the Wonderlandians, for they play a great role in this whole upheaval. Now, how it ends? Well, that is what the story is for.

Our tale begins with four Wonderlandians meeting to discuss their plan of action for recruiting their fairytale counterparts to join their cause, as they could most certainly use all the help that they could get.
This powwow of sorts took place in the ever well-known Alice's room, the attendants being the Red Queen, the Cheshire Cat, the March Hare, and little Alice herself.
The Red Queen, better known as Lilith Petran, was recognizable by her typical cool and calculating composure. Her boyfriend, Cameron Jones, lived up well to his role as the Cheshire Cat, his trademark grin remaining prominent.
Opposing them were Orin LaSalle, a rather polite, although anxiety ridden, gentleman who took on the part of the March Hare, and Scarlet Charleston, who’s unbridled curiosity and naïve nature earned her place as Alice.

Now Got your tummy all in knots No way I don’t need no pillow talk No, no You’re gonna need a new compass To follow me now I’m gone Hey Tell me are you in or are you out Give you something to talk about On the edge of doubt
Lilith Cosette Petran The Red Queen Lilith, of course, was sitting next to Cam whilst at this little council of sorts. Apparently, by way of Andee, through Cam, they had been recruited to basically, in simple terms, overthrow the school. At first she wasn't too keen on the idea, and had you approached her a year prior, she would have looked at you like you were insane, and she is a wonderlandian. A year ago the school was her savior and she was grateful that it existed. Now, she realized how many chains the school had on its students to keep them there. Not literally of course, but you get the picture.
No free life after you graduate, you had to fulfill your story and basically stay hidden. You had to be your role, you wouldn't get to pick who you'd 'be with'. True, she'd heard they didn't care about infidelities, but that alone was pointing out a flaw in the school's morals. Maybe she didn't want to stay in some fairy tale cottage for the rest of her days. Sure, her life before hand sucked, but that didn't mean it would stay that way without the academy. Plus, if you tried to take her Cam away, she'd probably kill you. A bit extreme, yes, but the truth.
Currently, they were divvying up who was going to go after which other fairytale counterpart. There were a good handful of Wonderland characters that might be up for joining their little faction. That just meant they had to find the best ways to go about gaining their help.
"Cam, I say you take mouse, you and xe are pretty close." Of course, she was referring to the Doormouse. A peculiar character she didn't know too much about, but xe was in a few classes with Cam, and they got along fine from what she heard. Plus, with Cam's charm, she was sure he could word things the right way so Mouse would have no issue joining them.
"Scarlet, I think your best bet would be Lysa and Asheton, you guys hang out a good bit and are all chums, from what I can tell..." Q&A, otherwise known as Alice amongst their fairytale rank, Scarlet was a bit intrusive, but the usually annoying demeanor had grown on Lil as of late. To be honest, that probably came along with letting down her guard and changing the way she approached relationships of all kinds, but Scarlet was a friend Lil wouldn't give up for anything.
"And Orin, since you and Loren are on good terms...I think you should tackle her and Chris, since those two are basically a two for one package. Get one, you get the other." Orin, the March Hare. It seemed to Lil that he had a thing for Scarlet, but the young man wouldn't dare put any impressionable thoughts into Alice's head, for she might just do something for the sake of finding out what it felt like or what it did, etc. He was too much of a gentleman for that.
Indeed, he was the reason why they were all sitting at an impromptu folding table he had brought, all with a hot cup of tea and a plate with snacks on it. He was rather thoughtful and had been thanked for the gesture.
"That would leave me with..no...I can't tackle both Beckbrey and Klaire. Shane I can handle, but please...Cam, you're taking Klaire. She's all yours...Beckbrey is the lesser of two evils." She stated, looking up at Cam, puppy dog eyes evident. He couldn't really resist then. Even if he did, she had other methods of persuasion up her sleeve and she'd use them if need be. Make you fall like domino Oh baby boy Make you fall like domino You don’t have a choice From LA to New York I don’t want a trail of hearts Play you like a game tonight Watch you fall down, down, down just like… Dominos

{ // Cameron Riley Jones ♥The Cheshire Cat. Cameron leaned back in his chair, swirling the tea in his delightful hand-painted floral cup idly before taking a sip. It was, of course, the best cup of tea he'd ever had, much like every other cup Orin had ever prepared.
Cameron's fingers twined comfortably with Lilith's, his thumb absentmindedly stroking the back of her hand softly. He, admittedly, had not really been listening to the plan of strategy she'd just laid out for them. Rather, he was growing increasingly concerned with the amount of tea he had been draining from his cup. There was no way he would be able to make it last forever at this rate.
It wasn't like he was missing any vital details, though. After all, he'd been the one to call this meeting together. Andee had caught whispers of an uprising from the wicked mastermind behind it all herself, and in turn trickled this information down to Cameron, who then took it up himself to sit everyone down in a plush seat with a warm cup of tea that Orin so kindly provided and let Lilith do all the talking for him.
Okay, so he didn't actually do much, but he was definitely the catalyst for this whole shebang. Really.
He did, however, perk up at the few final sentences of Lilith's little spiel, a grin creasing his lips.
"Can't," he begun, his grin widening as he set his teacup down on its saucer, "Klaire and I got into an argument this morning over whose hair looked better. We're not exactly on speaking terms at the moment, to put it simply."

If you could see me Whoever I am. It's not like the movies, but it's not all skin and bones. So come on love (come on, come one, come all and go) Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah I will not let you go After all the shows, after all the boys of summer had gone, amid all the confusion and friends I've been losing I always thought from the start I'd be the one moving on.
Orin Taranis LaSalle The March Hare Orin had spent the last few hours preparing for his meeting with Lilith, Cameron, and Alice in Wonderland herself, Scarlet. He just had to make sure everything was just right. It had taken him a while to pick out just the right tea to brew for the evenings gathering. Then, he had to figure out which finger foods he should whip up to go along with them. After all, what good is a get together if there wasn't any snacks! Not very good at all.
He had eventually settled on a nice peppermint tea, seeing as it was still a popular thing at the moment, due to the holiday season wrapping up. He even had a small amount of those miniature candy canes that he'd use as accents in the tea, letting them hang over the side into the cup for an added burst of flavor. In compliment, he was going about making some simple gingersnaps as a snack. He was quite thankful that the school allowed him to have a small toaster oven in his room. (However, due to the danger in that, he made sure it was always unplugged when it wasn't in use, and that it was kept in immaculate condition, never dirty)
While he was waiting between the small batches he could make, he absently cleaned several of the spoons in his vast collection, anxious as to what the meeting could be about. Lilith had made it seem important. Now he was simply curious as to why it was so. As agreed, they were to meet in Scarlet's room, seeing as she was the central character to their stories, it seemed fitting. So, as usual, he arrived half an hour early, a small fold up table at his side, and a tote bag with the pan of fresh cookies in the bottom and two thermos' full of tea. Carefully stacked on top of that were beautiful hand painted teacups and the saucers they went on, and a handful of napkins for the cookies. In another bag he had sugar cubes, honey, stirring spoons (never any from his collection), and the tiny candy canes.
He had knocked on Scarlet's door, and of course, she let him in. He instantly became slightly nervous. Being alone with Scarlet always made him focus on everything he was doing down to the minute seconds between exhaling and inhaling. Orin did, in what he hoped wasn't such an obvious fashion, fancied Miss Scarlet, and he could never bring himself to tell her in fear of her mind being too impressionable. So, he set about arranging everything on his tiny fold out table til it was perfect, chatting nervously with her while he did so. Luckily she never seemed to notice the effect she had on him.
Before too long, Cam and Lil showed up to find a teacup set out for each of them, a pile of cookies in the middle of the table, and hot tea ready to be poured. A rather welcoming sight, if he did say so himself.
It was no time before Lilith started getting down to the root of everything. Apparently there was the start of a rebellion going on at the school. When that note was first addressed, and Lil stated that she'd like for them to join, he was a bit hesitant. The dangers behind doing such a thing were great, and he didn't even know if they'd have a fighting chance. However, the more he thought about it, the more he realized that if he didn't do a thing about his current predicament with the school (the whole being stuck there forever thing), he'd never get to see his Grandmother again. He'd never get to take over his father's business. All of which he already knew, of course, but in the freshness of the experience in his freshman year, he didn't think much of it.
Now, he knew it wouldn't be far off before his Grandmother would pass away, and he really didn't want to miss any time he might be able to have with her. Also, he couldn't let Miss Scarlet run off and get herself hurt. So, as soon as she vocalized her agreement, he was sold on the idea.
Lilith was currently assigning them each other characters belonging to the Wonderland stories to recruit. It was no surprise to him that he got Loren and Chris. Loren was one of his first friends at the academy and she was great company. Chris was Loren's best friend, ergo, you get one, you get the other.
On the other hand, he also wouldn't have been surprised if he had gotten Mouse and Asheton. After all, the three of them (himself included) made up the trio that was the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, and the Doormouse. Therefore they were also quite close. All in all, he'd probably tag along with Scarlet either way when she went to go talk to Asheton and Lysa, just to be sure they heard what they needed to. Yes, he did trust Miss Scarlet with relaying the message, but she was prone to exaggerating in the best of ways, so much so that others who might not need to be around at the time might get wind of things and it would cause issues.
She really was too curious for her own good. That didn't stop him falling for her though.
"Alright, sounds fine by me. I do want to ask you, Miss Scarlet, if you mind me accompanying you when you do talk to Asheton and Miss Lysa." He stated, turning to Alice whilst Cam and Lil bantered about who would take on Beckbrey and who would take Klaire. To be honest, he thought Cameron would cave to Lilith's wishes, due to her history with the Queen of Hearts.
Whilst he was waiting, albeit a bit nervously, for her answer, he took it upon himself to make sure each cup was refilled to an appropriate level. After all, he couldn't drink all this tea on his own. Also, before a whole day would pass, he'd tire of the peppermint taste and switch to a different tea. Really, wasting it would be a shame.
I guess I'll never know Where all the boys of summer will go but I'll miss what we made and the days were not wasted. There are some things I may never know. How you lost your mind and your wrists got bruised and you wanted better love well it's sleeping your bedroom. Hold on, Stay on my side, Don't go.

⊰ Scarlet Ann Charleston ❤;Alice. Scarlet wasn't terribly sure of what to make out of all of this. Just a few minutes prior to Lilith revealing what the news she and Cam had been keeping rather hush-hush, Scarlet had been all but bouncing in her seat in anticipation. But once the words began tumbling from the Red Queen's lips, she visibly deflated. She didn't really think that she would be able to assist in overthrowing anything, much less as daunting a task as the academy was.
Scarlet took to worrying her bottom lip, quietly pending what exactly she was about to get herself into. Say they were able to successfully rebel against the school - then what? Surely they would no longer be able to take up residence at the academy, the faculty would probably most definitely be very cross with them. But most everyone else had a family that would welcome them back with open arms, other students with whom they would be able to live with, or other means of supporting themselves. And Scarlet...well, Scarlet didn't have any of those things.
Her mother and father must have regarded her as only a stain on fading memories, much like crusted coffee spills upon aged polaroids in scrapbooks which only served to gather dust in the back of the closet. She hoped they were happy. Happily making new, better memories with their new, better daughter. Scarlet felt her stomach knot up.
Her friends loved her - at least, she hoped they did...maybe she was being too presumptuous, she always supposed that it went without saying but then again she supposed a lot of things that were not very right at all. Well, she loved her friends dearly, but she couldn't fathom being so bothersome as to request to live with any of them.
That only left her with one option: taking up life as a burly homeless man, traveling the world stowed away on freight trains bundled up in threadbare rags. She'd have to grow a beard and live off of stolen canned beans. And a stolen can opener. But if having to resort to such measures meant that her friends could live happily ever after...she'd do whatever she could to help them get out of here. Yes, she decided, the path to becoming a hobo was a righteous one.
Scarlet's demeanor quickly shifted into that of determination as Lilith began divvying up the recruits for the four to go after. She'd been assigned to Asheton and Lysa, both of whom she was particularly fond of. Then again, she was particularly fond of all the Wonderlandians...well, most of them. No, all of them. Even if a few were a tad... off-putting.
She'd been in the middle of contemplating how she'd go about ensnaring the Mad Hatter and the White Queen into her trap when Orin asked to go with her. She tapped her chin, scrutinizing him as she thought it over.
"Well...I guess you can come with me, but you have to promise that you'll let me go after the prey. You'll probably just scare them off with your big clumsy feet before I have the chance to catch them." her straight face cracked and she giggled, holding her pinky out. "I've always wanted to play safari."

Now Got your tummy all in knots No way I don’t need no pillow talk No, no You’re gonna need a new compass To follow me now I’m gone Hey Tell me are you in or are you out Give you something to talk about On the edge of doubt
Lilith Cosette Petran The Red Queen Lilith rolled her eyes at her boyfriend as she sipped from her tea. As usual, he liked to make things more complicated than need be. It really was to be expected, for he was chosen for the role of the Cheshire Cat. Needless to say he fit it quite well. Charming, pain in the a**, and will run you around in circles before giving you a straight answer.
She nodded a thanks to Orin as he refilled their cups without being asked before she decided to respond to Cam. Of course, she had to pause and take the time to do so. Figure out the best strategy, you see. She, a bit reluctantly, pulled her hand away from his, severing their connection, before she began to speak.
"I seriously doubt you two stay mad at each other for longer than five minutes, so I call bullshit on that excuse." She started, reaching up to muss his hair, a surefire way to agitate him. It really was only fair. He was making things more difficult for her, so she was going to be an a*****e right back.
"Also, you do realize the likelihood of Klaire actually hearing me out, or even consider anything I say? Me going after her would only hurt our cause. Something we don't want to do before we even get started. Therefore,..." She paused in her little ramble to kiss him on the cheeks. " You must be your usual charming self and talk to her about it. I'll go with you if you want, to tackle Shane if he's there, but you must be the one to talk to Klaire. Plus, I still don't really trust Beckbrey to be alone with you"
Long winded spiel over, she returned her hand to his and picked up a gingersnap to munch on. Maybe he would get the point and stop being an a**. But, in all honesty, that wasn't very likely. Make you fall like domino Oh baby boy Make you fall like domino You don’t have a choice From LA to New York I don’t want a trail of hearts Play you like a game tonight Watch you fall down, down, down just like… Dominos
