Penelope stepped on rock after rock, trying hard to keep her balance and not fall, but her clumsy nature was against her walking safely.
"Do you wanna go sit by the lake, or just stay on the park pathway?"
Penelope asked, focusing on her balance, the last thing she'd want is to fall into the lake.

Noctis folloqed shortly behind her, trying to balance to his best abilities to keep from falling into the water. These were the not very frequent times he wished he had a tail. Why couldn't he have a tail like some demons or devils...? Hmph."It doesn't matter to me... I like land and water."

"Okay..."
Penelope murmured trying to jump to the land.
"Let's go sit by the water then, I need to perfect my rock skipping skill."
She threw her backpack down on a dry patch of dirt and ran to grab a rock. She wasn't the best rock skipper, but she wasn't the worst.

Noctis watched her with curious eyes. He had tried rock skipping before, and he was awful. Ha. The things that seemed so simple turned out to be quiet hard when you got around to it."So I believe you aren't too bad at it. Given the fact you actually bother to practice." He suggested as he sat at the edge of the water.

"Living on a farm when I was younger was extremely boring,"
Penelope began,
"Rock skipping was the only thing I could do without my father yelling at me."
Her eyes began to water, thinking of her dad. He would be gone soon, and there was nothing she could do about it. They had never really had the best relationship, they were too alike to get along. She still loved him though, yet he was almost gone.

Noctis noticed the tears brimming in her eyes, and his own exposed immediate fractures of curious sympathy. He could tell it was probably about her father, given she was tearing up right after talking about him. He figured his business didn't need to be on the subject, but sometimes it did well to talk about it.
"Penelope..." He began uncertainly."Do you wanna tell me... what's going on with your father?" He asked, his eyes searching her face.

Penelope sniffled, and laughed a bit.
"It's nothing to worry about really. He's had a tumor in his lungs for the past 4 years and we can't do anything about it anymore. He's had chemo, radiation therapy, and medications. I won't weaken him any longer. Letting nature run it's course is best, as unfortunate as it is."
She smiled,
"Thanks for caring Nox."

Noctis smiled, letting it be his un-worded 'You're welcome' before his gaze fell to the water. Situations like these made him realize how oblivious he was to the importance of family relationships. It made him feel... evil, and selfish even. But he simply couldn't bring himself to love his parents for more than a few minutes. He didn't know why. Probably because they were practically strangers to him.
"You're lucky, because I don't care often. At least I know I'm not a sociopath," He joked, smiling to lighten the mood just as Penelope had.

"Please don't take the route to becoming a sociopath, you'd doubt it greatly..."
She skipped another rock across the lake, pausing to to wipe the water that ricocheted onto her face. Smiling at Nox she threw a rock his way,
"Practice is the only way to get better."

Penelope smiled.
"Just position your arm 90 degrees and gently toss the rock into the lake, close enough for it to bounce a few times, far enough not to hit the dirt.
...If you don't want to that's fine.. You can just watch."
She chucked the rock as far as she could, and given the fact that her arms are like twigs, it didn't go too far.

Noctis glanced down at the rock and did as he was told, positioning his hands to what looked like 90 degrees and chucked the rock over the water. It skipped once, and on its second, it sunk.
"See?" He scoffed. He blamed the rock for whatever reason and huffed. If anything, he was pouting."You're so much better."

Penelope stifled back a laugh, for his first actual try, it wasn't bad.
"Okay, Okay, relax. Don't stress yourself out over a rock. There must be something you can accomplish while we're here..... For example, can you climb a tree?"
She motioned towards the Douglas Fir that was looking over them.
