It annoys me when they go on about how you need to 'accept Jesus into your heart'. Jesus is dead. He died over two thousand years ago. He is not his own father. He is simply a man with some good ideas that were completely misinterpreted by everybody else.
Also, I dislike when they preach love and that God is the only power, and yet they judge people daily for different beliefs. And why is it that while God forgives them, people whose only fault is difference in religion or sexuality are forever condemned?
Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Christians, but their belief system is faulty.
Just to clear things up a bit...
"Accepting Jesus into your Heart" simply means recognizing that, as humans, we are not perfect and are in need of grace to go to Heaven. According to the Old Testament, the only way into heaven is to live a pure life. In order to pay for their sins and "set the record straight," so to speak, Jews had to offer sacrifices to God in place of their sins. (In order for them to gain life, something had to die, etc. etc.)
Since obviously people can't live perfect picket-fence lives and stay pure and holy without fault for an entire lifetime, people were doing the animal sacrifice thing an awful lot. God sent Jesus into the world to sacrifice for the sins of all time: past, present, and future (Good Friday, Crucifixtion, etc. etc.) By dying on the cross, Jesus offered himself as payment for the sins of all mankind. (The word Catholic means "universal," ie, Christ's gift to the universe, not just "God's chosen people.")
In order for Christ's payment to be applicable (and to get to heaven) one must believe that this is the way things are. Obviously, if you hand someone a check for $100,000,000 and they don't believe it's a valid check, it will be worthless. Christians believe that in order to get into heaven, one must recieve God's grace by believing that Christ died for their sins. This is what is meant by "accepting jesus into your heart."
People who practice other religions are not forever condemned. They are simply condemned. But that's not really saying much because everyone is condemned since everyone has committed sin and therefore, everyone is going to Hell. HOWEVER, Christians (by definition) believe Christ has paid for their sins on the Cross and they are the only ones who can recieve a ticket out of Hell (where they were headed in the first place.) In order for someone of a different religion to be "redeemed," so to speak, all they have to do is believe in the whole Christ thing.
NOW THAT THAT'S OVER WITH...Here are some things that get me mad concerning Christians:
Sunday Christians: people who go to Church every sunday and think that means they will go to heaven.
Super Evangelizers: people who spend all their time telling everyone else how sinful they are. (speck, plank... you get the picture.)
Bible Thumpers: people who believe everything the bible says...
NIV Thumpers: people who read the New International Version of the bible and fail to recognize the fact that THE BIBLE WASN'T WRITTEN IN ENGLISH. Duh.
And here is the proverbial cherry on top of the ice cream sunday of my pet peeves...
ANGSTY CHILDHOOD ATHEISTS: people who were raised christian and developed a reaction formation because it was "boring" or it just didn't "connect" with them. People who are anti-creation, pro-gay or pro-choice just because it is the popular idea, an easy stance to take, or are just too lazy to do some real research on a topic.
