▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉ ☆ ★ ☆ SILVER ╱╱ WALLACE ☆ ★ ☆▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉

He remained still, casually sipping at his cocoa and listening intently to the list of names Alder was running off. Alive, alive, but whereabouts unknown. Missing. Hiding. Missing... wait he knew that name...

But before he could open his mouth to form a coherent word, the door to Lorelei's house was opening and in stepped Lucian.

In Silver's opinion he looked a bit drawn. The occasional grimace of pain, the over-reliance of his Pokemon for simple tasks...

Silver still wasn't fully aware of all the happenings around the different regions. He had been through a lot with the siege on Celadon, the public kangaroo court that convicted his father, his execution amongst the ruins of the once great, Rocket base...

His ears pricked up at the mention of Steven's name. There was a letter?

There was a tinkering of breaking china and the sound of hot chocolate splashing across the floorboards.

Silver turned towards Wallace, who had gone ghostly white. He was rigid, his mouth hanging open, his eyes wide.

              *

"Forgive me, Wallace. I read it as soon as I received it in case it was urgent."

              Steven. A letter from Steven?

              He was alive?

Alive enough to write at least but no no, he couldn't rush things. It could be a ruse after all. Omega had forgers... but it had come on the wings of Gale...

Omega did have ways of controlling Pokemon...

He was on his feet and snatching the tight roll of paper from Lucian's hand unceremoniously before he had even processed the letter's arrival.

Dear Wallace, it read, in Steven's, really really Steven's, sharp and angular scrawl. And he laughed and let out the biggest breath he hadn't even known he was holding.

He sank back down into his chair, his eye roving the page, drinking in the lines, the shaky apostrophes, the awkward phrasing, the engagement?

It was stupid, really, that the thought of Steven marrying someone could cause his heart such distress. These were feelings he had long since locked away and grown out of. He loved Steven. He loved him with his whole heart but he had long since accepted that his friendship was all Wallace was ever going to get. And he was grateful, so very grateful because Steven was his best friend, his best friend and and...

Everyone's eyes were on him expectantly. And he knew quite suddenly that they wanted to know what it said.

'I don’t think I’m in Omega’s custody,'” Wallace read aloud. “'But I don’t think I’m where I should be.' He's written this on headed paper. He's in Olivine.

It wasn't so bad, he thought. Johto had been taken over by Omega quite easily. It wasn't a war-ravaged region, like the remnants of Hoenn. In fact, it had kept fairly peaceful. Plus there was the added bonus of Blackthorn still being out of Omega's grasp.

He cleared his throat and continued, “'Fishing’s no good when the catch explodes. I went across the ocean and I seem to be in a hospital; got wires in my arm, at any rate. I might be okay when my head clears. Did you know that I was engaged? I didn’t know that. I should write better when I know better why my head hurts. Did I borrow your fishing pole or something? I’ll return it later. From Steven.'

              The room remained silent.

Well, he's clearly not getting married to anyone any time soon,” said Lucian, a wry grin on his face. “Omega's stance on marriage will keep our friend from doing anything too drastic.

Wallace nodded. “And he at least remembers something about what happened with the boat explosion.

              Lucian nodded, “The fishing pole...?

I sent Morgan off after him,” said Wallace, shaking his head. “He knows enough to remember he owes me.

Silver cleared his throat, “Are we sure it's from Steven?

I am,” said Wallace. “And I've known the man since his handwriting was little more than loopy scribble. It's Steven. And it's Steven who's written to me of his own accord.” A heavy weight was lifted from his chest and he felt almost instantly better.

Erm,” said Silver and Wallace looked towards him. “So we know where Steven is, that's good.” And then Silver nodded at Alder. “You said you didn't know where Grimsley was?” The red head ran his fingers through his hair. “My father had a network of informants, he always used to listen out for names he knew and he knew Grimsley. Gambling, y'know? I'm sorry to tell you that the last my dad heard, he'd been arrested by Omega and was being kept in Pandemonium.

▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉ ☆ ★ ☆ ZEEZEE

                  Atera remained, mercifully, asleep.

Hand clapped over her mouth, Zee took a step backwards. Max was giggling from atop her head. “Do you think I should wake her?” Zee asked the little Emolga.

Before Max could give a squeak in a assent there was a cry of hello from the shore.

Zee turned towards the voice to see a pink haired girl waving in her direction. The girl was walking up the gang plank and smiling broadly. She looked to be a similar age to Zee, perhaps a little older. “How many are there on board?” she asked.

I think my sleeping friend and I are the last ones. Unless you count the boy in the infirmary?

                  Someone unwell?

He's been unconscious since the Ambition went down,” Zee said, thrusting her hands into her pockets and rocking on her heels slightly. “Bosa's taken care of him but he's still not waking up. I was hoping perhaps there'd be physicians on the islands?

Oh, I'm sure we'll be able to find someone to take care of him,” the girl said. “I'm Lindy, by the way.” She held a hand out.

Zee,” she said, taking Lindy's hand and shaking.

I've been sent by Lucian to round up anyone without a psychic type.” She smiled. “I'd assume that's the two of you?

Oh,” said Zee. “I definitely don't, but I'm pretty sure Atera has a Grumpig or something.

A line creased in Lindy's brow. “Are you sure? I already met someone with one?

Zee pursed her lips. “Pretty sure.” She thrust her head in Atera's direction. “Got a lot of Pokemon native to Hoenn, that one.

Oh well, if you're sure, I'd let her sleep.” Lindy took a step towards the gangplank. “We're heading to Lorelei's. Coming?

Yeah, just a sec,” said Zee, swinging her bag around and unzipping a compartment. She began rummaging quickly until she pulled out a scrap of paper and a pen. She scrawled a quick note, folded it and handed it to Max. “I'm sure you'll be quieter than I will.

The little Emolga hopped from the top of Zee's head, onto her shoulder and then flung himself into the air, gliding down onto the decking, the folded note gripped in his mouth. He skittered over to Atera and slowly, carefully, inched the piece of paper under the sleeping woman's hand.

Delighted at his work he danced back over to ZeeZee and began climbing up her leg.

Good boy,” she said indulgently. She turned back towards Lindy. “Lead the way.

▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉ ☆ ★ ☆ ZEEZEE

It had been a long time since ZeeZee had been on the islands and they were not as she remembered. Before Omega, the Sevii islands had been concerned with little more than attracting tourists from Kanto and Johto. Now, the islands were stripped back and styled for function. The caves were being excavated by a few Graveller and ZeeZee thought, perhaps, this was for tactical reasons. Areas for storage and to perhaps even hide should the ice wall fall.

Lindy navigated their way across the island with ease, without giving much thought to the direction they were headed. She seemed to enjoy plowing through awkward conversation and ZeeZee let her. It was nice to hear someone talk about nonsensical things and not have dirty looks thrown in her direction whilst someone wanted to exercise the subject of OMEGA spies yet again.

Where are you from?” Lindy asked.

Kanto,” said Zee, pulling out a small bottle from inside her bag. “Though I was born in Unova.

Unova? I always wanted to travel there. Never had the money.

It's nice.” Zee took a swig of water and smiled. “Was nice,” she said, correcting herself.

Lindy wrinkled her nose but kept quiet. Up ahead was Ballade and Lindy turned away from ZeeZee and waved frantically at her. “Lorelei's is just up ahead. You two know one another, right?

Zee nodded and exchanged pleasantries with Ballade and, rather awkwardly, the three girls rounded the corner to a pretty cottage.

Lindy gave a brief knock on the door and, without waiting for reply, threw it open wide. "Found them!" she said enthusiastically.

The room was full to the rafters with the best and brightest trainers every region had to offer. Seeing so many of them in such a small space felt overwhelming. It had seemed strange enough passing Lance toast at the breakfast table, or having Wallace press a book about Marie Antoinette into her hands. This was almost too much.

A guy with purple hair looked at the three of them and said, "Two?" This must be Lucian, the guy that had requested they come here.

Zee tried to place his face. Had she ever even seen him before? He had a Sinnoh accent and Zee assumed he must have held a place on their Elite Four once upon a time.

"Well, I wasn't gonna bring the kid in the infirmary," said Lindy.

                  "No, there's another besides."

Lindy, clearly flustered, excused herself and went off in search of someone else. Perhaps she would be the one to wake up Atera?

"I appreciate you coming. I'm sure this isn't how you'd planned to spend your first minutes on solid ground. I'll be as brief as I can," said Lucian and Zee gave a curt nod.

She scanned the room again, only to catch Silver staring at her. She raised her eyebrows and he, at least, had the discretion to turn away.

How had Rocket Spawn wrangled an invitation to the grown-ups table before she had? It was Rocket Spawn, who liked to hang out in her bedroom whenever she wasn't around and quite frankly that was creepy enough without his association with one of the most notorious crime gangs in Kanto's recent history.

It was stupid though, ZeeZee thought, as she tugged nervously at a loose strand of hair. That despite his weirdness and the blatant thrill he got out of irritating her, all she could think about was whether or not he might've preferred her with pink hair.

▉▉ ZEEZEE ☆ ★ ☆ ╱╱ ▉▉ SILVER ☆ ★ ☆ ╱╱ ▉▉ WALLACE ☆ ★ ☆ ╱╱ ▉▉ LUCIAN ☆ ★ ☆

Zee stood awkwardly in the doorway watching the exchange between Lucian and Ballade. She could understand her fellow trainer's frustration. The thought of being experimentally plugged into an extensive network of psychic masters was a little daunting. But at the same time, it was a relief to know there'd be help available if it was ever needed.

I'm in too,” Zee found herself saying. “I've not had a psychic type for a long time.

She could feel Wallace's eyes on her. She wondered if he knew that that long time was from her trip across Hoenn? She looked to Lucian and smiled widely. “Can I choose my psychic type, by any fluke?

You may, to a certain extent,” he said, indicating the bag hanging from the Bronzong's arm. “We have a limited number of choices available.

Of course,” she said, with a nod.

They have been bred especially for your use,” he said. Lucian looked around the room, his eyes landing on Silver. He nodded briefly and added, “Silver. Might I have your assistance for a moment?

Oh,” he said. “Oh, yeah, sure. What d'you need me to do?” He clambered to his long legs and looked at the psychic expectantly.

There are several pokeballs in the bag. If you wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate if you'd retrieve and distribute them for me.

Without a word, Silver wandered across the room and lifted the bag from the Bronzong. “Who's having what?

Pick one and I'll inform you as we go,” said Lucian. Silver rummaged around until he plucked a Cherish Ball from the confines of the bag. “Ah. That one is for Wallace.

I'm getting given entirely too many Pokemon recently,” said Wallace, winking at Zee from across the room, who blushed and shuffled her feet. Silver pressed the ball into Wallace's hand.

He released the Pokemon from its ball and a Slowpoke appeared on his lap. “Oh how lovely,” he said, running a hand across the pink Pokemon's head. “I've been meaning to train up a Slowking since becoming the Hoenn Champion.

We thought it best you have a Pokemon in a type for which you have such affinity.

Wallace nodded. “Much appreciated.” He clicked the Pokeball and the Slowpoke returned in a splash of red light.

Before Silver had even pulled the ball from the bag, Lucian was saying, “That one is Lance's.” A little awkwardly, Silver wandered over to Lance and passed the Heal Ball to him. “Will was quite insistent that you have a Ralts.

Lucian looked to Red, Ballade and Zee. “There remains a Chimecho, a Solosis, an Abra, and an Elgyem,” said Lucian before Silver's hand could pick up any ball in particular. “Would you care to take your pick?

Could I possibly take the Elgyem?” said Zee. “I never got the chance to catch one. Unless...” No one made any noises of dissent so Lucian smiled.

Silver has, serendipitously, just happened upon that particular pokeball.

Feeling suddenly flustered to be centre of attention, Zee stepped towards Silver who held out the Pokeball. “Thanks,” she mumbled as her fingertips brushed against the palm of his hand. She tried not to blush but she failed miserably. She turned away quickly and caught Lucian's eye. “And thank you, for the Pokemon. I'll do my very best to look after them.

▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉▉ ☆ ★ ☆ JOSEPH

Joseph wandered down the halls of Pandemonium, leaving a tacky trail of blood in his wake. It was perverse, he knew, but Sinister wouldn't mind.

Sinister didn't mind much of anything, closeted away in amongst his ruins, fasting and praying and driving himself to the brink of madness.

Johto. Why did it have to be Johto? Oh sure, it was nowhere near as vile as Hoenn, but it came a close second.

He settled himself behind his desk, only to spot something rather troublesome on the computer screen before him. He clicked the link, pressed play and watched.

Watched as Steven Stone prophesied to a crowd in a storm; backlit by lightning and speaking in... was that the Old Language?

                  His hand trembled.

And before he knew it, his rage had exploded out of him. The computer screen was slamming into the far wall, glass was showering everywhere. He heard the tell-tale sizzle of Daitengu leaving his Pokeball and sniggering wheezily as he scaled the wall into the darkest corner he could find.

Breathing heavily through his nose, Joseph collapsed back into his leather chair, unclipped a Pokeball from his belt and tossed it from one hand to the other, thinking.

Images and words. That's all it came down to.

Oh he was good, was Steven Stone. He shouldn't have underestimated him. His first misstep, first miscalculation.

Steven Stone had been in the public eye from the moment he could walk and talk at the same time. The famous son, of a famous business man, that headed a famous corporation, taking on the famous Hoenn League and winning.

Oh Steven Stone knew publicity well and boy had he given the people a show.

Joseph had work to do and very little time in which to do it.

He picked up the phone. “Camden? It's Joseph. I've got a job for you. Meet me in my office in ten minutes. And bring that Aerodactyl of yours.
