The Space Hulk Gargantua is a legend among space captains, smugglers, and treasure hunters. A massive amalgam of derelict ships smashed together over the centuries by unknown forces, it is essentially one giant ship. Several parts are identifiable, such as a first generation Imperial Battleship that makes up the main engines, and several types of cargo vessels, freighters, and warships of various design and antiquity.

The hulking vessel has breathable atmosphere, and very stable power and gravity in most parts of the ship, thanks tot he combined reactors and life support systems of the various ships that make it up. Likewise, it has a variety of engines and weaponry, most from a time when massive firepower was standard over precision weaponry.

Aboard the hulk, various sections are in better repair then others. A luxury yacht looks as if the extremely wealthy owner just left it, rather then it being part of the hulk for centuries. Others are mostly rust and decay. There are plenty of armories, mess halls, living quarters, and medical facilities for approximately twenty thousand souls, based on the last Imperial boarding operation, several centuries ago. The hulk has grown since then, and randomly drifts through out inhabited systems, at times, the lightspeed engines activate and take it to regions unknown, and it is not seen for years or even centuries.

It is also host to vast treasures of data, antiques, lost technology, outdated weapons that collectors want, and much more. It also has random infestations of vermin, such as rats, or rather deadly alien animals and other hostile lifeforms.

Usually, when this ship is seen, people go the other way, and fleets give it a wide berth, mainly due to the sheer size of the thing. Eventually, the Imperial Fleet is supposed to be tasked with tracking it down, stripping it, and then destroying it.

Persephone followed Saul's instructions, slipping into the bulky environmental armor and managing to find somewhere to stash most of her weapons. Still, she had to take a moment to steady herself before she slipped on the helmet, and leaned back against the wall to give her eyes some much-needed time to adjust.

After a minute or so, she eased her vision back into focus, making sure everything still appeared to be working-- which, thankfully, it was. As per the usual, she had to be a little careful focusing and zooming, but the design of this helmet made it a little easier than the rebreather had.

"Alright," she said making her way back over to Saul. "I guess I'm ready whenever you are... But why in the world are we being pulled in anyway? Gargantua's supposed to be neutral, isn't it?" She paused. "Actually, I had no idea people actually lived on it... Unless, of course, the tractor beam is a computerized response from one of the auto-pilots that somehow hasn't been overridden and assimilated by the sheer force of collision with something this massive..."

She shifted her weight slightly, glancing out the window towards the Space Hulk in question. It was a hodge-podge of parts-- she could pick out the thrusters from a stealth craft, the engines of a battleship, what appeared to be a chunk of the hull of a freighter...

"How does it stay together," she wondered out loud. "There's no way all of these ships collided at fast enough speeds to weld together... Some of them look so old, I doubt they could even breach light speed."

After checking all of his weapons, Saul had returned to the small cargo bay to speak with Persephone.

"Nobody can figure out what exactly drives the thing," he said. "It has a lot of automated systems, from centuries worth of ships being somehow added on to it."

He gazed out the side viewport, seeing a mostly intact Imperial Hospital Ship, several freighters bearing various merchant guild or company marks, an old prison ship, and several other types of alien ships.

"I think our best bet is to find the bridge, turn off the tractor beam systems on my ship, lock that idiot down here, and escape. We are only a small ways off course from Vorg, and as long as the hulk doesn't jump to lightspeed, we should be fine."

He thought for a moment.

"This ship is bound to have a wealth of old or valuable things on it, but don't get the urge to snoop more then necessary. All manner of mutant creatures and animals end up on these things somehow, but fortunately, this one hasn't been listed as having any life aboard for the last two centuries."

He didn't have to add that the newer ships could have carried something, or not. Who knew?

Persephone eased forward slightly, laying a hand on Saul's shoulder as he divulged his plan to her.

"Saul," she said calmly, speaking his name to grab his attention. "I know you don't like this guy, and the intel we have on him just doesn't add up... I don't trust him either... But has he really done anything that's worth murdering him for? I know I'm not one to talk about sparing people's lives, but sometimes there's more to a situation than what we can see from the outside... And besides, we might need him... Especially if there's a chance that the records of life on board this hulk could be wrong... And I think both of us know that the odds don't seem to like working in our favor."

Her hand slid almost absently down his arm, coming to rest a few inches above his wrist, and she stopped for a moment and looked at it, almost seeming to wonder if she should go any further. She chose to stay there, however, and continued, "He embarrassed you... I get that. The Gods only know that I've certainly poisoned people for a lot less than that... And he's a Rebel, which makes him... Well, it makes him your enemy. I get that too... I mean, come on, I wanted to kill Guy when you sent me out to meet him, and I hadn't even met him yet. But you have to stop and think about this... I mean, sure, our situation is... A little different... But I'm about as anti-Empire as they come, and you and I get along... And sure, all the intel we have on this guy says he's supposed to be dead, but for all I know, that could be Command trying to fool us. Command strictly forbids us from working with other saboteurs, or from even seeing their files or knowing who they are... It's a preventative measure designed to keep us from ratting each other out, if we should get captured and find that our morale should crack."

She was mostly speculating at this point, she knew, and was certain Saul knew it too, but he seemed to still be listening, so she supposed that was a good sign... If nothing else, he still seemed to have enough faith in her that she was at least worth listening to.

"Look, we're going to have enough to worry about once we get to Vorg just trying to keep ourselves alive, I'm sure... And dealing with Fate, too. Rather than waste out energy on this guy, why don't we just let him tag along, and whatever happens happens? If he lives, he lives... We'll worry about it later." She let her hand fall away, her fingers ghosting across his palm for a split-second before they were back at her side once more. "I love you, I hope you know that... And I don't want this to tear us apart. If you really want him dead, I'll help you, but I just want you to try to think about the alternatives."

She shifted again and turned away, taking a few steps towards what would eventually be their exit from the ship. Part of her was honestly surprised that she had made it through that whole spiel without him interrupting her... And that same part of her was currently making her stomach do a series of nervous somersaults over the way she had chosen to end the one-sided conversation.

Love? Why the hell had she said that?

...Because that was what it was, of course, she reminded herself. As much and as often as she had initially tried to deny it, she was head-over-heels in love with him... And that was the most frustrating part of this.

Duncan

Duncan went into his cargo bay, setting into the notion of getting his environmental armor ready and on his own body. Stripping out of his clothes right there, he stripped down to just the black stealth skin he wore underneath. It was formfitting to every part of his body, and sense it was a skin rather than a suit, there was no need to wear undergarments with it. But he puuled the hands of the stealth skin up and over, followed by the head covering. Completely in his stealth skin now, he looked like a apparition, but he stepped to his small armory for his personal things, stepping into the armor he would need.

Getting inside the armor, he felt it snugging in around his body. The armor fastened, colored black. Pulling the head of the skin off, he rolled it around his neck, before grabbing the helment and pulling it on. The neural interface locked in and uplinked with the armor's systems, transmitting neural thought to the armor, helping him move better witht he armor, so it wouldn't be a hindrance to his speed or agility. His style of fighting was very fast paced, avoiding damage rather than taking it to deal it back. He grabbed his sword, and fastened it to his back. Looking at his armory, he thought a moment before he grabbed a weapon. He did promise a replacement. Grabbing the pistol, he headed back for the cockpit, waiting to see what would happen next.

Saul listened to her talk, stunned by what he heard. She actually loved him? This would take time to sort out...

"I...This is a bit much to process right now. We'll talk first thing after this is over. You have my word I will not kill thus man unless it proves to be absolutely necessary."

They felt a slight thud as the ship settled in an abandoned hanger bay, the style and build of it suggested a centuries old Imperial fighter carrier. He saw another ship at the far end of the hanger, and his guts turned to ice....

He swore harshly, and went charging for the door release hatch.

"Make sure your helmet is one, we have to get over there! That's Guy's shuttle!"

She sealed her helmet on, and he opened the hatch, sprinting as fast as his new legs would carry him, which was impressively fast, reaching the shuttle in record time.

Scorch marks covered the hull, and severe damage showed through the thick armor of the shuttle in places. He entered the ship, the hatch had been left open and the ramp down....

He found five heavy flame troopers, all of them butchered and torn to pieces. None of them had even gotten a shot off, their weapons still showed as fully charged. He checked the bodies, but none of them was Guy....

"Something's off here...We have to find Guy, he could be in trouble."

Persephone followed Saul off the ship, doing her best to keep up with him, but he was way faster than her now, she noted, and by the time she reached the ship, he had already had a little time to look around.

"Saul, I'm so sorry..." She looked at the scorched hull and torn armor and shook her head. Whatever had gotten a hold of this ship had gotten it bad.

She followed him inside the ship and glanced down at the tattered remains of what had once been flame troopers, unable to fight back an unexpected relief at the fact that Guy wasn't one of the bodies...

"Something's off here," Saul said. "We have to find Guy, he could be in trouble."

"...And by "could," you mean "most likely is,"" Persephone supplied. "I don't like the look of this either." She paused slightly, glancing around. "Do you suppose he could be on the ship still somewhere, or should we check the rest of the hulk and come back?" She knew-- but didn't want to admit-- that if Guy was still on his ship, he was probably dead, laying in shreds on the floor somewhere like these other troopers were, and she didn't want Saul to have to see that right now.

That was another part of this whole "love" thing that was confusing her, now that she had it out in the open-- she felt... Protective. She knew that looking after Saul wasn't her responsibility, nor would he want it to be, but still... She wanted to do what was best for him, whatever that happened to be.

She knelt next to the bodies on the floor, hoping to find some clue as to what had maimed them so badly, and found nothing. With a frustrated sigh, she turned back to Saul. "This isn't like anything I've ever seen before... I don't know what could have caught five Imperial flame troopers off guard like that... They spend way too much money training those bastards for them to let their guard down." She stood back up. "We should probably move, before whatever got them comes back and finds us."

Duncan

Duncan's ship was being pulled by the tractor beam into the massive hulk, and from what he saw, he was pulled into the same hangar as the other ship saul was on. Once inside, he docked the ship properly, thought had a protocol program run on standby that would instantly put the ship into start up at his cue. Walking to the ramp, he pressurized his armor before opening the hatch. Walking out, he looked around, and saw Saul and persephone running. He took off at a sprint, he was on the other far side of the hangar, but as he ran, he caught up to saul at the other ship the same time persephone did, even though he docked after they did.

Arriving at the ship with them in his black environmental armor, he looked to the flame troopers whom had been killed as if with ease. He stepped forward, observing the scene, kneeling down. They were in pieces, some parts of the bodies were not even recognizable. Looking around, he saw no evidence of hull damage from interior weapon fire, their hadn't been a struggle of any kind, enforced by the fully charged nature of the weapons that layed there. The weapons were still there, perfectly useful, and they were left. Looking to the positon of the bodies, he saw no sign of having been killed in formation, they they fell as they stood, unprepared. He stood up and looked to the two.

"This is ominous, what could have possibly taken down 5 flame troopers with such ease and caught them unaware. they weren't even in defense formation, and theres no weapons fire damage inside here, and the weapons were left behind, perfectly good and full ammo, but left. Apparently whom ever did this has a weapon set much more superior to disregard them, or had the skill to not feel the need." he spoke out. He knew the feeling, he himself would never use a gun, despite he had training and skill enough to hit a target with a gun, he was a swordsman through and through.

Looking to saul, he extended his left hand to him, holding a gun, giving it to him. "I told you I'd replace it. It's a death hammer laser pistol. They stopped making these forty years ago due to a ban set by the Empire, as the weapon became commercially available rather than military specific. It has a unique system of energy management which makes the best use of ammunition, shooting more powerfully than a normal laser pistol, with a higher round capacity per ammunition pack. It's Illegal for anyone other than military personnel to own one. And the number of these is limited and dwindling, so don't lose it or break it, I'm not giving you my other one to replace it if you do." He told him, handing him the weapon. "So, plan of action?"

Saul took the proffered weapon, his estimation of this odd man going up, having access to rare tech was always a hallmark of something deeper...

He knelt and examined the bodies. They had all had no chance with whatever attacked them...

He stood up after a short while, and backed away from the remains.

"I think we would be better off disabling the tractor beams and escaping, rather then searching around here. If we find Guy along the way, that's great, but we cannot expect him to have survived when his men did not, he didn't train anything but elite troops. We have to get moving and be off this hulk as soon as humanly possible."

Persephone nodded calmly, shifting her focus to the mangled corpses on the ground as Saul spoke. She didn't know what sort of monster could cause this much damage to a body-- even the lowliest scumbags she had ever worked with had had more decency than this. She supposed that ruled out a human attacker, and most alien races wouldn't do this either... She supposed that for now, all she could really do was chalk this up to the work of some highly dangerous predator of unknown origin and pray that they never met one of the things themselves.

As Saul finished announcing the game plan, she shifted her gaze once again, glancing around the area cautiously.

"Whatever this thing is that killed these men, it's highly dangerous," she agreed. "We can't afford to risk letting it find us." She looked directly at Saul as she continued, "It would seem that speed and stealth are going to be our greatest assets." She decided at the last minute to leave the statement unfinished, but she was fairly certain he would know what she was thinking: And I happen to be skilled in both.

Duncan looked between Persephone and Saul. "I think staying together would be the best bet. whatever killed them surely wasn't alone. we don't need to be overwhelmed by them individually." He spoke, moving out of the ship, he put the sword to his wasit, the armor attaching the sheath together and he drew the blade, holding the sword at the ready. "We can't be sure of atmospheric stability either, so causing hull damage could be detrimental should our armors be damaged as well." He finished, looking to Saul. "Lead the way, I'll bring up the rear."
