She had a successful little chat with Roch, and Riley was feeling quite accomplished so far. Still, she had so many doors to knock on, ideas to absorb, and hopefully when the day was done, the accomplishment would extend much farther than this.

As it was, the walk to Sparrow's room wasn't very far at all. She reached out and knocked on the door, before adjusting the hem of the business suit she was wearing, to make sure that sitting with Roch had not creased it noticeably. Now it was Sparrows turn to give her some insight, a discussion she was not against by far. In fact, she looked forward to having a little chat with Sparrow - unlike some of the names on her list for the day.

Sparrow, for the most part, had spent his morning attempting to read.

It had not gone particularly well; he did not have the greatest ability to put together words and sentences in the proper format, after all, and his frustration had grown high. Numbers, that was what he was good at; not this confusing combination of letters and periods and commas and semi-colons and capitals.

After a while, however, he gave up, preferring to not spend his day disgruntled over something as small and meaningless as spelling, instead turning to work on composing a letter to his little sister, who would not care if things did not look quite grammatically correct.

Which was what he was doing when there was a knock on his door. Slightly bemused, Sparrow pushed himself back from the desk, reading glasses still perched on the bridge of his nose as he pulled open the door to his room.

He blinked in surprise. "Riley," he said, brows raising, but his shocked expression rapidly melted into one of mild curiosity, and he beckoned her into the room, smiling at the ghoul. "What a pleasant surprise. Please, come in."

Every word that came from Sparrow was a refreshing reminder of just why she had come to like him from the moment she met him. She greeted him with a warm nod, and took him up on his offer, entering his room smoothly. She turned once she was inside, and immediately went to work.

I hope I'm not catching you at a bad time, my friend. Her voice carefully slid the words into his thoughts. I'm mostly going door to door, making some visits in preparation for the upcoming Student Council presidential elections. I want to get a good idea of what the student body as a whole want from their president, so that I can give it to them when I win.

There was no hesitance in her statement, and no 'if', either.

How are you coming along with your campaign, by the way? Have you started on your speech yet?

The mindflayer was probably the last person Sparrow had expected to see, but her visit was neither unpleasant, nor unwelcome. He gave her a gracious smile, adding "Looking as beautiful as ever, I see," before shutting the door behind her and leaning back against one of the posters of his bed. Folding his arms across his chest, he listened quietly as Riley spoke.

"The time is never a bad one if it means conversing with you, my dear," Sparrow said breezily. "Might I get you something to drink? A glass of tea, perhaps?"

He was not actually sure whether or not she would be able to drink it, having no visible mouth, but it was polite to ask nonetheless. As it was, Sparrow went about fixing a cup for himself, and then he stood in front of her, holding the steaming mug in his fingers.

Sandy brows lifted. "What we want from our president? Ahhh, yes. That would be you, would it?" he said with amusement, taking a small sip of tea and absently pushing his glasses further up his nose (he'd forgotten they were there). "You're quite confident. I admire that, as you know."

Ambling slowly about the room one arm around his midsection, the other still holding his teacup, Sparrow regarded the illithid with a curious expression. "I am doing as well as can be expected for someone who is not particularly well known within the school just yet," he answered, a little ruefully. "Ah, well. There is always next year, I suppose."

There was a pause as he scrutinized Riley a bit. "Why do you want it?" he said. "The presidency, I mean. Why is it so important to you to have it?"

I would love that. Sweet tea, I hope? I take it with plenty of sugar. That was an understatement.

Her eyes quirked, creasing at their edges as he spoke. He was a flatterer, and she appreciated it - after all, flattery is an important strategy for effective, engaging conversation. She also appreciated his question, being that it was straight forward, and yet left her open to speak of exactly that which she came for. She knew she was going to enjoy her chat with Sparrow.

Ah, but the importance does not lie in me having anything, my dear Sparrow. My interests lie in the betterment of the school. I have proven, time and time again, that I can be a positive influence on the changes necessary to the school, and the events within it. I am merely a tool, that wishes to be used properly by the student body. She leaned in, clasping her hands in front of her. One must always be aware of their strengths and weaknesses, and use this knowledge to the best of their ability. I feel confident in my ability to lead. Therefore, I offer myself as a servant, a voice for the masses to come together as one and achieve their ultimate goal. Our combined voice.

She stood straight again, and tapped her smooth, featureless face. A little irony never hurt anyone. She joked of her lack of her own true voice.

His brows rose just a little, but Sparrow said nothing as he handed Riley a steaming cup of tea, several cubes of sugar sitting on the saucer beside it. He settled himself against the wall, breathing in the scent of spices and cream from his own tea. Slanting a scrutinizing gaze towards the illithid, all he said was "I see" in a noncommittal voice. However, his blue eyes twinkled merrily behind the wire-rimmed reading glasses.

"Such a straightforward answer," Sparrow said mildly, and took a sip of his tea. He did rather like Riley; she was quite unorthodox in her mannerisms, very confident in what she knew. "It's refreshing."

He crossed his leg over the other at the ankles, more steam issuing from the scalding tea. Pushing a stray lock of sandy hair away from his face, Sparrow said lightly "Irony is always a good thing, in my opinion."

Giving the mindflayer a crooked smile, he peered at her from over his glasses. "You say one must be aware of their strengths and weaknesses; what are your weaknesses, then?"

Mmm, Riley began plucking the sugar cubes up with her fingertips, and dropping them one by one into the tea. She seemed just a touched entranced as she did this, and Sparrow's last question had her looking up, still holding the last cube between her fingers. Her eyes bent into crescents in lieu of a smile as she held the sugar cube up. This, would be one. She chuckled, quite amused at her own expense. I do love sugar, it is such a pleasant thing.

Of course, she was well aware Sparrow was not asking her about such trivial things. However, revealing one's weaknesses to someone else was not the same as knowing one's own weakness. Her answer was careful and light to brush past the subject without too much thought. Even so, as her tentacle slid into the tea and looked as though it was taking a sauna bath in it, her eyes opened to a more piercing gaze. But of course, there are others. Thankfully, my weaknesses have to do with my passion. I do not like to do anything without passion, you see. At times, it can be a burden - but thankfully, it can be a blessing when dealing with issues that a president might need to face. I, for one, don't see myself sleeping on the job anytime soon.

A subtle dig to her running mate? Most definitely.

Sparrow's only response to Riley mentioning her love of sugar was a raise of his eyebrow, flickers of amusement crossing his face. Such an ordinary weakness, yet he was equally aware that her answer was merely a lighthearted one.

"Passion is indeed a necessary facet of being president of something," he agreed, taking a sip of his own tea. The hot liquid seared down his throat, a pleasant warmth as he listened to Riley speak. It was really quite a fascinating idea, being able to hear her within his own mind - quiet, but strong.

A snort escaped before he could stop it, Sparrow clearing his throat as if to hide his laughter. He knew quite well who she was alluding to, but like the mindflayer, he did not call attention to it.

"You are quite convincing, you know," he said finally, setting down his tea on his desk and removing the reading glasses from his nose, dangling them loosely in one gloved hand. "I find you quite an interesting acquaintance."

My dear, if you did not find me interesting, I would be sorely disappointed in myself. Her eyes crinkled at the side, clearly content with the observations he had mentioned.

One tentacle remained immobile within the tea, resting comfortably on the rim of the cup. But sure enough, the level of liquid in the cup began to go down in small doses.

So tell me, Sparrow. How are you liking Amityville so far? Any regrets in coming here? Or perhaps, things you would like to see changed?

"I would be sorely disappointed in yourself as well," said Sparrow with amusement, his eyes alighting with mischief above the cup he had raised to his lips again. His teasing was good-natured, however, and he smiled at the mindflayer.

"I have no regrets," he answered her, setting the empty teacup and its saucer down on the desktop and regarding Riley with a serene expression. Sparrow's shoulders rose and fell in a mild, noncommittal shrug. "I find that having regrets proves to be more problematic than helpful.

"As for changes..." Sparrow trailed off, lapsing into a thoughtful silence. After a moment, he said lightly "Nothing immediately comes to mind. I rather like it here, after all. I have had no complaints - as of yet - and the company here is much better than most."

This was said with a teasing glint to his eyes, Sparrow's mouth curling upwards in a smirk.
