The murmer of voices rippled through the blindingly white room as the cell doors pulled open, the grinding of metal against metal causing many of the gathered to cringe. The rasping sound echoed painfully from the bare walls and after a few agonising moments the doors were fully opened. The cell beyond it was dark however - the light from the room they were standing not strong enough to reach the far side.

"It's empty!" One angered voice rose up above the nervous whispers, and for a moment it seemed that he was right, for the cell did indeed seem void of life.

"We were promised a test subject!"

"Calm down, there has to be some explanation."

Then as if it had been planned another grinding sound echoed from somewhere at the back of the cell.

The prison room had been secured for a long time, its brick walls thick and sturdy and the viewing window made from reinforced glass. It would give the viewers a wonderful view of the subject held inside, if there was one to see at all.

Apparently the door at the far side was the only barrier keeping them from seeing the subject. For as soon as it was open lights in the cell flickered on and revealed to the scientists what exactly the subject was.

Ruby's legs twisted in opposite directions, slithering madly up against the wall to feel her way up toward the strongest light point (the exact point where the light shone on most brightly). Dissapointed when only the light dimmished in shadow when her feet met up with the point, she cursed out loudly in German, a confused - yet mutated voice - and yet amongst all; a sad, trapped girl still nestled within albeit the dramatic changes in character, the changes inflicted during the virus outbreak.

Her head lolled back with a whack against the hard, cold, cement flooring; fresh blood dribbling off into all different directions upon crack. She was smartly upsidedown, balancing her weight all upon her head by this point, it was hardly surprising the amount of blood doubled by the time she was in straight up-side-down-stance. Her hair thick black hair proved a useful mop, soaking up a third or so of the total bloodpool which gathered underneath her.

"You, Breeteesh bast-urds." She pronounced, screaming it out toward the door. "Out me let!" Her english had really taken a toll since the outbreak, and she was at constant war with word order, and the actual language itself, it just seemed to be draining out of her by the second (and that wasen't the only draining thing at that particular moment - the bloodpool was leaking all off into corners).

Her arm oddly fell off just randomally, with a light splash into the depths of the blood, hitting the solid ground beneath it, with force. Ruby let out a scream of terror, her neck twisting and cracking once more. Her body lopsided, and all weight cracked the side of her neck again - and too soon she just wasen't breathing at all. Her windpipe had cracked completely.

Ruby dropped down alongside her arm, her head almost dislocated off her body. The bloodpool soaked on through the underneath of the celldoor.

"She's almost fully transformed." One of the scientists whispered as she stepped forward to the glass, pressing her hands against its cool surface to peer inside. Her heart thrummed violently within her as she stared at the bloodied woman on the floor. Staring at Ruby made her feel oh so alive. The woman brushed back a few stray locks of hair and then turned to the collection of people that huddled just behind her.

"How did they get such a specimen?"

"Who cares?" The woman shrugged, turning back to gaze at her, "it seems that during the transformation they still feel pain. She can talk which means she still has some intelligence, I wonder how long it takes for one's mind to be completely consumed by death." She tapped the glass as a child would a fishtank and watched the dark-haired infected writhe on the ground, her screams echoing from behind the barrier.

"Amy, don't you ever feel queasy looking at this type of thing?" A nervous voice fluttered from behind her.

"No, now everyone take a seat, get out the note pads and start making observations." She snapped, moving over to the console which showed the status of the living...or dying thing that was in the cell.

Heart rate....fast and irregular.

Perspiration rate...higher than average.

Vital signs...off the chart.

It seemed that her body was overworking even though Ruby was doing nothing but laying on the ground. She was indeed dying, but she wouldn't remain that way for long.
