 Sara was sick with worry.
When she got the letter this morning her heart skipped a beat and panic swept through her body, Yue needed her, she needed her as soon as possible. So she had literally run out the door as soon as she was dressed and fed. ( Though admittedly her breakfast had FLOWN down her throat). The young teal haired girl soon found herself in the marketplace looking around for some familiar magenta eyes. She hoped she was okay, what if something had happened to her? Curse the spirits were was Yue! She took in a deep breath, telling herself that panic was not going to help anything. Whatever it was it could not be that serious, knowing Yue it was another one of her schemes but Sara was not too sure, she had a funny feeling in her gut and she doubted it was from her stomach trying to digest almost whole slices of toast.
The young Mongolian looked at the busy streets scanning every face that went by like a hawk, surprised that even at this time people had flocked to purchase goods. The sky was a lovely shade of blue and if she was not so worked up it would be the kind of day she would appreciate. She started to wonder if Kiran may be around, though she did not have any time to hunt him down, however she knew finding that fish stall of his would not be too hard. Raw fish stunk.
Her foot tapped impatiently, if it was so urgent Yue would have got here early! What on Earth was so important it could not be put in the letter, any indication about the reason behind the meeting would have made her feel a hell of a lot better. Her light green eyes closed as she leant back against a wall trying to go to a happy place in her mind, letting the sounds of the market echo around her.

Yue Lao had not personally written the letter. It was actually Chishio, who knew that her daughter would need her female best friend around for the preparations, and Yue was reticent to tell anyone, for some reason. Probably because Yue Lao had always been like that; to expose personal details felt like a weakness, and so she would keep them to herself. Her mothers knew that her wedding would be a large and joyous occasion, as well as overwhelming if she had no one to see but her newly engaged Jianyu. So Chichi had written the letter, bullied Yue into mailing it. She used one of the leftover stamps from the Bataar-stamp-throwdown. It was slightly dirty, a crane stamp that had once been on Bataar's hand.
The market was comforting her, and she strutted around in her usual fashion, swaying drunkenly, browsing the booths. She wanted something to give to Sara... finally, she found an ornate comb, carved from a sweet-smelling wood. It had little birds etched into the surface, which were paler than the rest of the comb's wood. She had it wrapped in a pretty, if plain scarf and stashed it in her sash, Hime-san chittering away on her shoulder. He wanted breakfast. Yue's stomach grumbled: As a fighter, she seemed to be perpetually hungry. Perhaps she could convince Sara to go to a buffet with her.
Yue Lao finally circled back to where she had agreed to meet Sara, and saw the Mongolian leaning against a wall. "Sweetpea!" she started, approaching Sara and scooping her up, spinning her slowly and gently before setting her back down. Yue grinned madly at Sara, and shoved the comb in its scarf into her hands. "A gift, for being you. Let's walk! I'm starving," Yue complained, rubbing her stomach, smiling wryly.
"So... I was thinking. For my wedding gift, I want you to tell me what "neg" means," Yue stated, without looking over at Sara or changing pace. Yue appeared to be very tactless when it came to announcing her engagement.

Sara could have screamed when she was suddenly grabbed, at first she thought someone was trying to mug her however when she opened her light jewel like eyes to see Yue she could not help but smile. The magenta eyed girl always seemed so happy to see her and thankfully she did not seem to be in any state of distress. This in itself was a instant relief however she was still curious to the urgency of their meeting. When Yue finally put her back down she decided it time to voice her concern. "Neg I was so worried, I got your letter. Whatever in Lunaria is going on?" She cursed, it was clear to hear both the confusion and the strain in her voice. Sara was like her mother, she worried about the well being of everything and anyone and this meant she felt the need to know everything. Being kept in the dark was a feeling that she could not stand above any other. However before she got a answer, something was forced into her hands.
"A gift you shouldn't have. What is the occasion?" She looked down at the scarf in her hands dumbfounded, she carefully unwrapped the package to see a beautiful little comb in the palm of her hand. This could not be the reason behind her sudden urge to meet, she could have given it to her anytime unless it was some special occasion. Oh dear, Lunaria had so many traditions and festivals - was this one was where you had to give gifts to your friends, rats she had nothing for Yue! "Oh Yue, it is lovely!" She beamed tucking it away neatly in her fur hat for protection making sure it was secure and had no chance of falling out. Yue was walking fast today and she found her short legs having trouble keeping up with her. It lookd like they were on their way to get something to eat, Sara was not too hungry but would never refuse a meal with her friend, she seemed to have lost so much weight since her studying had caused her to forget to eat regularly, so it might be good for her to have two breakfasts.
She still did not get it, why was Yue acting so casual. "I told you, its a secret I am taking to my grave." She smiled before looking at her friend curiously when she realised what she had just said, it seemed like a odd thing to bring up. Though Sara admittedly did not get Yue's humour at times and just smiled putting the odd statement down to her quirky disposition. 'Haha, could you imagine Yue getting married, heck could you imagine her with a boyfriend? It would have to be one hell of a guy... I did not know Yue thought about weddings, maybe there is a side to her I do not know yet. I wonder what kind of person she thinks of marrying. Oh spirits, does she have her eye on someone? I sense a girly breakfast! I need to get information!' Sara could have cried, the young Mongolian loved weddings and she was in love of the idea of maybe getting married someday. Yue would make a beautiful bride! If she knew that Yue shared that desire it would open a whole new chapter in their relationship. Maybe some time she could even convince her to go dress shopping! Oh the joys! Maybe she was more feminine than she let off!
She smiled and grabbed hold of her friends arm, a new enthusiasm to her movements. "Though when you finally get married I might reconsider. It seems like my secret is safe for quite a while yet, oh indestructible Neg." She stated with a small chuckle, Sara did not even know Yue had a boyfriend, she never talked about love or that side of her life so you could imagine how she misunderstood. The smaller girl looked up at her friend and gave her a sweet smile. Yue was her best friend, her big sister and more than anything her idol. She loved her with all her heart and even though they did not look anything like her she saw her as her blood. She would not have made it this far with out her...

She didn't really mean to startle Sara so badly. She hoped that Sara's normal hearing was better. Though it was true Yue walked around barefoot, so she was harder to hear than most. She also hadn't even realized that Chichi's letter could scare the poor girl. After all, Yue was positively beaming, so the idea that the letter could infer she was unwell seemed so ridiculous it was nigh impossible. "Worried?" Yue asked, confused, "Why would you be worried over it?" Again, forgetting the letter hadn't even said what was going on. Chichi thought Yue would want to tell her in person. Sometimes, her mother made strange choices, forgetting Yue was not like most Lunarians.
Yue pulled Sara close to hug her and kissed the top of her head. "Don't worry so much, Sweetpea! I'm the one and only; what could possibly happen to me?" she asked, grinning, before pulling away for the gift-giving.
"The occasion is I missed you and wanted to get you something!" Yue replied, "It's not really that much, don't worry about it, you know?" Yue rubbed the back of her neck. Sara was her only real female friend, and it was such a small gift compared to the value of that relationship. Yue grinned as Sara complimented it.
She tried to slow down when she realized Sara was almost scuttling to try and keep up with her, even though she wasn't that much taller; Yue did tend to walk fast, when she had something on her mind. Yue directed them into a buffet off the market, paying for her plate and Sara's (in case her friend was hungry) before dragging her off to the buffet tables without a pause. "Delicious, gross, I'll pass, hey! More of these! ... I think I saw that one move..." Yue narrated every dish, picking up some, letting others lie. In the middle of picking up some kind of curried chicken, Yue said, "Well, you don't have that long, so you might want to reconsider over the next few weeks? Let's go sit down! If you have your food, that is," Yue said. "Wait, are you even hungry? I forgot to ask." She smiled sheepishly, looking at Sara's plate.

"The question would be what if something happened to you? There is only one of you and if anything did happen I would not know what to do." She stated in a moment of true sincerity, she did not want to think about anything happen to Yue. In truth she did not even want to think of her friend as a fighter in this damned war the city was consumed in, she did not want to loose Yue. If she did then she really would have no one, it was not like she ever wanted to see Mei ever again, not after what she did. Though she shook her head a little wanting to change the subject, she would always worry about her, always. She smiled and gave a small bow, her fingers touching the comb lightly. "Thank you anyway Yue, it was a kind thought." She smiled as she followed her friend into the buffet. Sara was not a fussy eater but she always had a weakness for honeyed rice and it was always her first choice off of every menu, she had such a sweet tooth. She put some on her plate and slid it across the table looking at her friend. It was probably a good thing she was not holding it in her hands because if she was the whole dish would have been scattered across the floor with Yue's next words.
"A few week-" She mumbled to herself repeating the words of her best friend in a tone which showed how confused she was. Then in a instant she felt like she was about to pass out, her legs turned to jelly and her heart skipped a beat. The teal haired girl landed on her knees but put her hands out to stop her head from pouncing off of the ground. She waited there on all fours, her hair covering her eyes and her mind just beginning to process the information that she had just come across. Maybe she had not heard her right, maybe she was dreaming. Whatever it was in this reality Yue was getting married, Jesus how long was she passed out in Bataar's yurt? Not long enough for Yue to fall in love surely! "What."
She finally mumbled shaking her head a little, out of all the things that Yue had ever done to take her out of her comfort zone and shock her this was the mother of all her surprises, she would have to work out to get a reaction like this again. At first she did not know if she was being serious but she knew that Yue would not joke about something like this, it was just all so sudden. He best friend was getting married and she knew nothing about it, she did not even know who she was getting married to, if it was arranged or anything. Her head slowly turned to look up at her with large jewel like eyes. People at the buffet turned around to look thinking that Sara might have come down with something and just fainted, it was silent but after a moment this silence was brutally ended, or murdered depending on how you would like to look at it.
"WHAT!" She shouted her eyes widening, she did not know if it was shock, excitement, happiness, curiosity or all at once but what ever it was it caused Sara to be unusually loud. In a moment the shorter Lunarian was off of the ground and after a quick sprint to her friend she found her hands on Yue's shoulder shaking her a little. "YOU ARE GETTING MARRIED IN A FEW WEEKS!" She announced with a huge smile, a couple of people already seated clapped at the news. All attention was now on the two girls and the monkey who had come along for the ride! If you did not want to create a scene then it was a hope most certainly dashed by Sara's outburst. "How did this... I did not... oh dear I need to sit down." The teal haired girl wobbled over to a seat, her legs still a little unstable after the shock. Her eyes still firmly on her friend, Yue was getting married... the words seemed so alien, the idea so random she knew it would take a little while for it to settle in.
"I think... you need to awnser some questions my dear Neg, do not say you were expecting to dodge this arrow so easily, I am afraid I must demand them!" She stated with a small smile shaking her finger, she had unleashed a whole lot of trouble now. Sara would not be satisfied until she heard every detail of how this came to be. She wanted to know his name, what he looked like, how he proposed, how they met, if she had a dress, where was the ceremony going to be held. Indeed it was going to be a long breakfast for Yue.

Yue Lao grinned widely and struck herself on the chest. Well, the part of her that did not have ladybits. "Nothing can happen to me, I'm invincible." Her eyes glowed brightly, as if she really meant what she said. She knew, somewhere within her, that of course she had her weaknesses. She'd shown them many times over. But in this case... she always fought to improve upon whatever was making her weak, didn't she? So why not feign invincibility? Over a long enough playing field, any error she made could be erased. As far as she was concerned.
"Yeah, I'm getting married. To Jianyu. You know. After I loved him for all this time, turns out he was a sucker and fell for me, too." Yue replied, without making eye contact with Sara. She focused on the food, digging into buffet dishes so that she could find something with meat in it. Lots of meat. Yue Lao could settle for tofu, she supposed... but beef, delicious beef! ... Really, her mind was half on the wedding, half on food. What was someone like Yue Lao supposed to do about getting married? In the end, she could only treat it the way she always had: with mild shock, gratitude, and tenderness. Whatever tenderness she had. Typically, it was reserved only for Sara and Jianyu anyway.
It wasn't that Sara had been passed out for that long, but rather that Yue Lao had sheltered her love deep within her, never letting on. It was hard to admit that the one and only had found her own one and only, so Yue just... hadn't talked about it. What could she say, anyway? She had known the man whom Jianyu had loved before her, and she had never fathomed she could be with Jianyu in this way... but their wedding was fast approaching.
"Sweetpea... are you okay?" Yue finally looked up from her food, to notice that Sara was kind of... wide-eyed. And then suddenly she was yelling, and Yue nearly toppled over, hearing her sweetpea yell with such a volume. Yue set the plate of her food down in order to not spill her precious meats. "YES, I AM," she replied back, equally loudly-- for Yue, it was not really a great feat to raise her voice in excitement, or otherwise. Yue helped Sara sit down, sighing at the plate of meat which Mr Princess was now guarding... for some reason. All he did was eat fruit. Weird. Whatever, maybe the little brat was finally looking out for his owner.
Yue smiled, somewhat sheepishly, as Sara wiggled her finger at her and attempted some kind of chastisement. Yue Lao winked. "It's just Jianyu, Sweetpea. Just me and Jianyu. He proposed on Cherry Tree Hill. It was uh... a surprise," Yue said, laughing. It was more than a mere surprise: Yue Lao could never have seen such a thing coming.
