zOMG Gold Curve
A new gold curve has been implemented in zOMG. Details and explanation below (but it's LONG).

Overview
For a long time zOMG has been giving out too much gold; we've made several tries at adjusting it, but there were still some issues. The main feedback from the community was that new content was the key thing they wanted -- so how can we do that while getting the economy more into balance? (There are other issues of fairness: for example, there are people that are buying the zOMG items to show their support, but they aren't getting very much tangible benefit from it).

Details
So, what we're going to do is this:

- we have 4 people working on an entirely new area for zOMG. This is a substantial investment in zOMG, based on community feedback.
- we've simplified and upped the curve for donators and AutoCash subscribers. Every day you can earn up to 160k in zOMG without any effects, and then the gold scaling goes down to 20%.
- for people that are not donators or AC subscribers, the new scaling kicks in at 10k. ..... (See below - it will be 30k, not 10k.)

However, some people do not have access to cash -- so we're offering a zOMG gold potion in the cash shop that will confer the donator gold-earning levels for 3 days. So, you can spend some gold, drink the potion, and for the next 72 hours you'll have the benefit of the gold curve.

This allows social players to play zOMG with their friends, confers some benefits on people that buy zOMG items, and allows people without cash the chance to earn gold at the same rate as others.

So, an entire new area is kind of a big investment. How can we know if it's successful? It's obvious that zOMG items / powerups / rings / whatnot are important, but there are other things we'll be looking at:

- total traffic in zOMG. Right now zOMG is behind Towns and Rallies in popularity; we're hoping that with a new area that it will be the most popular flash game on Gaia.
- number of new registrations driven as a result of zOMG. If you refer a friend, or get them interested in the game, try to make sure that they register through zomg.com.

More details in the zOMG forums or journals, as appropriate.

Explanation of Donator Status
Lots of confusion about this, and it's been a while since we've done an announcement, so: "donator" is the term that we use for anyone that's purchased an item for 249 GC or more in the past month or has subscribed to AutoCash.

How can you tell if you're donator? Go to Account Settings / Gaia Cash Purchases and it'll tell you "You have nnn days left." (Subscribers don't see this message, since they always have donator status).

Weekend zOMG Tweak
We've been talking this over internally, based on feedback from the mods and a number of users, and as a result we're going to change the limit for gold scaling from 10k to 30k for people that don't otherwise have a higher limit.

zOMG! update and Gold Potions

Tue Jul 19, 2011 2:01 pm -
Nicolae
Bend your ears this way, friend-- I've got some news you're going to want to hear. zOMG! has some things on the way, and your pal Nicolae's got the inside scoop.

My frontier friends say they've heard rumblings of a new area called Dead Man's Shadow. Word has there are new quests waiting for hearty adventurers, but there's also some kind of dangerous overlord brooding over the place. I'll let you know when I have better intel-- it sounds like it'll be a few months before Dead Man's Shadow is open for all.

You might've noticed that Gold just ain't worth what it used to be. When I was a boy, if you could steal five Gold you'd live like a king for a week! To get this inflation under control, the Gold granting in zOMG! will be more like what you can expect elsewhere in the Gaia world. Part of the reason is to be fair to Gaians who don't spend time in zOMG!, but also to keep Marketplace prices under control for guys like me-- humble shopkeepers trying to make an occasionally honest living.

For the zOMG! champs out there-- I'm talking to you, buddy-- you can still bring home the shiny bacon with the new Gold Potion. Rub your body down with one of these (or drink it) and you'll earn more Gold on your zOMG! adventures for three days. Just click on it in your inventory to activate and you'll be living the high life. I've partnered with the dudes in the Cash Shop to get these potions to you quicker.

Where am I getting these Gold Potions, you ask? None of your business, that's where! Just messin' with you-- I'm getting them from the good folks clearing the way to Dead Man's Shadow. Buying Gold Potions gets that project closer to completion and fills your pockets; you can help others by helping yourself.

You're going to want to be ready when Dead Man's Shadow opens. Head over to the Cash Shop to grab some Gold Potions-- they're only available there for the time being, but I should be adding them to my own shelves eventually.

I'm back guys and ready to do some major zOMG! detective work. After 10 mins of browsing the forums I can tell the z!F is in utter chaos. I still don't get what's bad about a potion that gives you more gold but whatever I'm staying out of it. smile

It's because of the way the new gold nerf is set up.
"Donors" = people who have Auto-Cash or spend 249 GC. They get normal gold up to 160k before the curve hits.
Everyone else gets curved at 30k. (Unless it was raised today)
Gold Potion lets a non-donor get the donor curve for 3 days.
(Once curved, you get 20% of normal gold until the curve resets at 0:00 GMT)

Oh that makes sense. Hm, I guess that does stink. Only 30k... didn't it use to be 100k? Oh well Gaia makes weird decisions all the time.
I know they'll change it later.
Thank you. smile

The last incarnation of the gold curve was:
- Normal gold up to 80k
- Gradually reducing gold between 80k and 200k
- 20% of normal at 200k+

Now it seems to be more wall-like. Normal until 30/160, then 20% after that.

The ceiling was raised from 30k to 50k, but I left this clan after it went inactive, so haven't updated this thread. I don't have much up in Heartfire yet, but will be posting updated threads there.

Do you know Feevil? She was looking for someone to play DMS with a couple days ago...am afraid most folk I know are dms'ing or are otherwise preoccuppied. My neighbor's giving me an intro to Linux, so I may be up and running for zOMG and BG again soon. For now, Doll Shrine is about as far as I can go for gameplay.

You might also try last angel served (online right now) or lost the grasp of life.
