Chimokko Kraigos Chimokko Kraigos Of late, I've been thinking about getting into falconry, so a red-tailed hawk would be amazing. I've also thought of owls, but they are not well suited for hunting, and I doubt I can have one in my area. Falconry is damned expensive. Sometimes just the permits alone are killer. But damn, I'd be in heaven with a raptor on my wrist. I doubt I'd be able to afford it until I was retired, but it is fun to look into right now. Between that and golf, I should have an amusing retirement. I know how you feel. I'd love to have a golden eagle. I watched videos of people hunting coyotes from horseback with them. I was jealous. I came across an old chivalry book and in it was a list of who could own what type of falcon according to class and profession. It was really quite interesting. I'll type it up after work today. This list goes from King and lower by class: A king may have a gyrfalcon

A Falcon Gentle for a prince. ( a young or female goshawk)

A Falcon of the Rock for a Duke. ( I am unsure of the species for this one)
A Peregrin Falcon for an Earl.

b*****d Hawk for a Baron ( Also unsure of the species)
Saker for a Knight
A Lanner for a Squire

A Lady may have a Merlin
Hobby for a young man
Goshawk for a yeoman

A tercel for a poor man ( A tercel is a male hawk, particularly Peregrin or gyrfalcon)
A priest may have a sparrowhawk.

A kestrel for a servant

Well, I am an animal lover, entirely. I only have few animals that I would hate to have as pets, and that is for snakes and bugs really. I just can't handle snakes. I just can't maybe you can, but me I just can't. I would love any other kind. I currently own a total, of 3 dogs and 3 birds. I just realized that both are three and three.
I have one cockatiel and two budgies. My birds live with me at my father's house where they enjoy themselves allot. I felt bad one day for the budgie that was alone because I am in school most of the day. And I am glad I am on summer brake where I can have some fun with them. So one day when I was really feeling sorry for him, so I went and got him a mate. She is a white and very light blue. As he is yellow and green. They both have learned to get along with each other very much. I even caught them doing it one day. I have read up on how to breed them ever since then. And I am prepared for when I want babies. This summer is when I really want some. The male is named Sprite, and the female is Lilac. They are not hand trained. Very, wild indeed. Unfortunately they are older and really just concentrate on each other, which makes it practically impossible for me to train them. But it is possible, but I know it would take way to much patience. BUT! If I ever do want to train budgies, I will simply let the ones I have mate, and I shall influence the minds of there children! It'll be better because I can train them when they are young.
Now for my cockatiel, his name is Hilo (High-Low) he is a little mean, but it is not his fault, I adopted him when he was about 2 years of age, and he was cage bound and hardly had human contact. He has gotten use to people but he will never come out of his cage.But not hands I have tried taming him but it's impossible with a million people coming in and out of your room and stuff. And I even changed the cage that he use to have to make him feel a little less attached to being in the same area so he can get use to a new surrounding but that didn't help either. He will never never leave. I even left the cage door open a full day even while we were sleeping and nothing. And mind you, I have dogs. So it was really risky business. He loves to wake up at 7 o'clock each morning and sing his sweet little heart out!
Now, I wanna reply to Goosies Moosies and Chimokko! A Cockatiel is amazing when you have the time and patience for them. When you train your bird to learn to trust you, your bird will love all your attention and you will love his as well. Hand training them is amazing they will climb up on top of you. Or if you don't have time you can buy a pair of them, they will entertain each other.

I wish I could get a falconry license but where i live there are no area's to take it hunting and I don't have the money for the training, food, big enough aviary and vet bill.
Another would have to be a trained grey parrot. It has to be trained though AND get along with other and smaller birds, children and other people besides me.

Ditto on the falconry - I want to do that SO BAD! But I guess I have to settle for volunteering in raptor rehab, which is pretty awesome in itself. It's what got me into birds of prey in the first place. So... yeah. I adore my little parrot birds, but my dream is to be a falconer - I'd love to have a red-tailed hawk and a peregrine falcon.

I have three parakeets smile
I got my first 6 yrs ago, His name is Rayne, he's blue with grey stripes on his back. when I take pics of him the blue on his rump glows and turns out as teal on camara.
Rayne is a sweetheart... he gives me kisses on the mouth (my first kiss lol) And he loves singing to lady gaga for some odd reason...
~~~
Second one I got 4 yrs ago, His name is Paopu. He's deemed himself alpha of the "flock" lol he has white cheek markings lol the rest of him is yellow with splashes of green on his stomach and a dot or two of white.
~~~
and I got Rei last year. I thought He was a she. im still not sure lol. But "He" is very timid and shy about me still. He's white with pale purple black and blue spots on his back.
~~~
Sadly I dont get to play with them as much as i'd like, cuz when i got married last yr, my husband came with alot of cats lol sweatdrop and they are very captivated by my poor little birds. We have no A/C so i cant very well take them into another room to play. So i just put my hand in their cage and play with them taht way.
But im getting them a HUGE cage, and considering getting a bourkes parakeet to add to my flock heart then someday i'll buy a green.
And someday i'll have a room with a door all for my little birds. and the cats wont be allowed in there. so i'll be able to play with them TONS
Boyfriend's been wanting a grey parrot... At the store the other day they had one, and it was 10 weeks old.. and just wanted a snuggle. But at $1200, it was too expensive of a snuggle. sad But I got to pet it and it was just soooo sweet.
So perhaps a grey parrot one day. But only if we can get it that young. Then I'm sure we can bond with it properly and it'll trust us. Only tricks I expect any bird to do are step up and give kisses. Obviously my finches don't do that, but all of my keets do. My cockatiel steps up, but I'm too nervous for him to give me kisses... he's not the most tame one of my birds, and has drawn blood from me before for no reason.
Hmm, I've been interested in birds for years, but this is still a hard to decide subject for me. When I first got exposed to birds, I wanted a Rose Breasted Cockatoo, but now I'm leaning towards the following birds: Green Cheek Conure, Cockatiel, and the Blue Headed Pionus
My best friend's mom-who is an avian vet-told me that I would do well with a Meyer's, too.
Honestly though, I'm going with the thing that several parrot owners have told me. "You'll find THE BIRD. When you meet him/her, you're gonna know."
