User Image Name: Casswin
Age: 19
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: (Only if applicable - put N/A if not) N/A
Rank: Candidate
Physical Description: She's a very attractive young woman who takes care of her body. Standing a little over five and a half feet tall, she is well aware of her appearance. Her teal-blue eyes have a slight slant at the corners giving her an exotic look with her long wavy dark brown hair that is often left down—even in the heat.

Personality: Casswin got all the attention she ever wanted from both of her parents, which lead to her self-centered, attention seeking self. Pern revolves around her and she can't stand if someone else is getting more notice than her. She has issues with authority and will rebel when no one is watching. Often she'll lash out immaturely and dramatically at being upstaged, but never to the point that she'll hold a grudge.

However, that doesn't mean she's instant friends with everyone. Having a very firm belief in herself, her confidence is sky high. She'll refuse to associate with people who constantly belittle and put her down. She has very little tolerance for that kind of attitude that just ruins her high.

She knows she's attractive, but that doesn't mean she can't pull her own weight with tasks. Her competitive drive has helped her focus on her chores. If a crafter can do it, why can't she do it better? And besides, when she does it well there's more attention for her.

She hates to be alone and she'll instantly seek out others, preferably in a group, and hopefully have them bask in her glory. But don’t take her for all fluff and curves. Behind the looks is a mind that turns everything to her advantage, something she had to learn when her sister was born. “Friends” are only needed when they can do something for her. And if you don’t want to be her friend, she’ll find a way to blackmail.

History: Casswin was born to Holders Gladwin and Cassarah. Her birth had been very difficult and the family feared it had left her mother barren. She was their pride and joy, spoiling her with whatever her heart desired. Even the people of her hold seemed to dote on her. After all, the responsibility of it would fall to her and her future-spouse's shoulders after many turns and her parents were beyond the between.

But when Casswin was eight turns, her family had news that Cassarah was pregnant with a second child. Another girl was born and the first born had to learn how to share. How unjust to be forced to give up her old toys for another to damage, having to share a room, as well as helping take care of the infant with her mother.

When she was fourteen turns, her lessons began to include the management of the hold. Talk about the unfairness for her to learn how much was sent off to Paradise River Hold for protection. Instead of paying attention to the hold lessons, she daydreamed about the dragonriders. She thought they must live. And they made it into the ballads!—the peak of attention. It was her history lessons that she showed the most interest in, so long as dragonriders were involved.

Other/Talents: Understands the workings of holds.

Original Casswin - First Pern Character

Name: P'per (Formerly Piper)
Age: 25
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual (tends to go bisexual depending on rider gender on male dragons)
Craft: N/A
Rank: Wingrider
Physical Description: She's a very attractive woman who takes care of her body. Standing at five and a half feet tall, she well aware of her appearance. Her teal-blue eyes have a slight slant at the corners giving her an exotic look with her long wavy dark brown hair that is often left down--even in the heat.
(Notes to self: 5'6" & 36-38" bust)
Personality: Being an only child, naturally P'per got all the attention she ever wanted from both of her parents, which lead to her self-centered, attention seeking self. Pern revolves around her and she can't stand if someone else is getting more notice than her. Often she'll lash out immaturely and dramatically at being upstaged, but never to the point that she'll hold a grudge.
However, that doesn't mean she's instant friends with everyone. Having a very firm belief in herself, her confidence is sky high. She'll refuse to associate with people who constantly belittle and put her, her dragon, or others down. She has very little tolerance for that kind of attitude that just ruins her high.
Having a firm foothold in her own self-confidence also means that she'll come off sexual or interprets everything in the sexual content. She knows she's attractive and uses it as much as she can to her advantage.
That doesn't mean she can't pull her own weight with tasks. Her competitive drive has helped her focus on her chores and care of her dragon. If a crafter can do it, why can't she do it better? And besides, when she does it well there's more attention for her.
She hates to be alone and thankfully Impression with her dragon means she's never alone inside her own head! But still not having anyone around her drives her crazy, so she'll instantly seek out others, preferably in a group, and hopefully have them bask in her glory.
History: Piper was born at Espygini Hold to Holders Gladwin and Cassarah. Her birth had been very difficult, leaving her mother barren. She was their pride and joy, spoiling her with whatever her heart desired. Even the people of her hold seemed to dote on her. After all, the responsibility of it would fall to her and her future-spouse's shoulders after many turns and her parents were beyond the between.
When she was fourteen turns, her lessons began to include the management of Espygini Hold. Talk about the unfairness for her to learn how much was sent off to Paradise River Hold for protection, who then sent marks to the nearest Weyr.
Instead of paying attention to the hold lessons, she daydreamed about the dragonriders. She thought they must live lavishly with so many holds sending their marks to them. And they made it into the lore!--the peak of attention. It was her history lessons that she showed the most interest in, so long as dragonriders were involved.
Two turns later, she told her parents her desire to be a dragonrider. They refused flatly, a first with Piper. Naturally, she threw a tantrum, whining the unfairness, stating she'd do it without their blessing by running away, never speaking to them, etc. Gladwin and Cassarah had never denied their daughter anything before, so in the end they gave in to her wish.
The life of a future dragonrider was nothing she had expected. She had to do chores along side common folk. But if they could do it, she could do it better! Her competitive side rose like the flight of a bronze, especially with other girls. She wanted to prove a girl of her position could haul twice her own weight.
A few more turns and she was standing shoulder to should with other candidates dressed in white, waiting for the impression as each dragon hatched. Her would narrowed down with each crack of the shells, forcing herself to remember to breath.
How do you describe impression? Simply put, Piper fell to her knees from the force of it. It was a flood of feelings, desires, thoughts. Out of the rapid jumble between the green hatchling admiring a bronze and being hungry, she got a name. Maliath.
Now the real hard work began. Between her chores, feeding Maliath, and keeping the green away from any striking or good-looking dragon, training began for them to work as a team. Often on down time, they'd people-dragon watch. Both making comments on the appearance of the other, what features they found the most appealing. Even P'per (now re-named) could see the beauty in some of the other dragons' structures, skin, and wing strength. Probably the most unsettling thing was when she'd start to flirt with a few female riders of the current dragon crush Maliath had, but eventually came to accept it as part of the connection she shared with the boy-crazy green.
Maliath and P'per have reached graduation and they're curious what new pretties they might get to enjoy watching between their daily exercises.

Silver Rain

Name: Poleth
Color: Green
Final Size: 18 dragonfeet

Personality: Her small stature says nothing about Poleth's personality. Poleth is adventurous, and playful. But more than that, she's a busybody. Being small, she is harder to detect than other greens, and uses this to her advantage. She pokes that muzzle into anything and everything.

That Weyrling that tripped over his dragon's tail the other day? Poleth will make sure all of Pern knows about it. That scandelous romance between two green riders? You can bet Poleth knows all about that.

Poleth is a dainty thing, a queen in green's clothing, and she acts it. She knows she's delicate, and tends to be quite the drama-queen. Did she knock something down with her tail?

She'll blame that item. It ran into her, not the other way around. Doesn't hers care that she's hurt? Did she get hurt during a Weyrling lesson? The instructor should have been more careful! She could have died! Is it raining? They better get inside before it decides to flood, and she drowns!

In and around flights, Poleth will be just as happy to provide information. She will probably tell her rider if she has any dragon in mind. Her flights are not an unexpected thing, and she won't be as picky as to who flies her, as long as they can keep up a proper conversation.

Mind Voice: A higher, but pleasant tone, Poleth talks fast, and sometimes her words blur together.

Green Cthoth

Inspiration:

In Greek mythology, the Lernaean Hydra (Ancient Greek: Λερναία Ὕδρα) was an ancient serpent-like chthonic water beast, with reptilian traits (as its name evinces), that possessed many heads — the poets mention more heads than the vase-painters could paint, and for each head cut off it grew two more — and poisonous breath and blood so virulent even its tracks were deadly. The Hydra of Lerna was killed by Heracles as the second of his Twelve Labours. Its lair was the lake of Lerna in the Argolid, though archaeology has borne out the myth that the sacred site was older even than the Mycenaean city of Argos since Lerna was the site of the myth of the Danaids. Beneath the waters was an entrance to the Underworld, and the Hydra was its guardian.

The Hydra was the offspring of Typhon and Echidna, both of whom were noisome offspring of the earth goddess Gaia.

Origin of Name:

Chthonic (pron.: /ˈkθɒnɪk/, from Greek χθόνιος – chthonios, "in, under, or beneath the earth", from χθών – chthōn "earth"; pertaining to the Earth; earthy; subterranean) designates, or pertains to, deities or spirits of the underworld, especially in relation to Greek religion.

The Greek word khthon is one of several for "earth"; it typically refers to the interior of the soil, rather than the living surface of the land (as Gaia or Ge does) or the land as territory (as khora (χώρα) does). It evokes at once abundance and the grave.

The pronunciation is somewhat awkward for English speakers. Most dictionaries, such as the OED, state that the first two letters should be pronounced as [k], /ˈkθɒnɪk/; others, such as the AHD, record these letters as silent, /ˈθɒnɪk/. The modern pronunciation of the Greek word "χθόνιος" is ['xθonios], although the Classical Greek pronunciation would have been something similar to [kʰtʰonios]

Personality:

Cthoth is unimpressed. Very, very unimpressed. With you, with your rider, with the world in general. Meticulous perfectionism is this green's watchword, and she judges others just as harshly as she judges herself. If you fail to live up to what you should be, if you miss the target for that flame, then that is on you - and she wants to know why you didn't work harder. There are no excuses for Cthoth, and she will not hear them or use them: not from her rider, not from her friends, not to excuse her own failings.

She is a conservative in thought and in deed, and strongly believes in her place in the world - and in other's. The world was set up this way for a purpose, and attempting to change it seems a waste of energy and effort: if you cannot fit into the role given you, that is your failing, and she does not want to hear about it. She does not seek more then what she was made for, merely perfection in her own role in life: that is it's own reward.

There are good reasons to have her as a friend, or a partner - and she is not entirely unlikable. Cthoth is an intelligent green who enjoys conversation and philosophy (even if her own ideas are firmly set from birth), and she is always - always - reliable. Cthoth keeps her promises, no matter what it might cost her, as though she were bound by an iron chain, and she will never, ever, lie - or even twist the truth, as some dragons might.

She does have a tendency to fuss, especially over those who're close to her, and her care for them is second to none - she will endeavour to be there for them when they need her, with whatever blunt words she believes they need (she is not a soft dragon, and harshness comes naturally to her). Her affection will usually be practical, rather then emotional - what can she do to relieve this pain? Will a herdbeast help? Perhaps she can chase down the party who wronged her friend and give them a good tongue lashing.

Cthoth does not play her strengths down, but neither does she inflate them: she is a modest creature, and will always seek to direct praise to where she feels it should be received... which is normally not herself. Of course she did this thing, but it was only made possible by her sibling who - and so on. Her intelligence also has a tendency to backfire on her: when it is possible to see and understand many outcomes, she worries deeply about what is the correct route to take, what will lead to perfection... as well as about those she cares about. If not checked by her rider, this worry will lead both to Cthoth overworking herself, and some severely sleepless nights as she demands their memories and tries to work out the best cause of action.

Strengths: Modest, Meticulous, Reliable, Practical, Diligent, and Intelligent.

Weaknesses: Fussy, A Worrier, Overcritical, Harsh, Perfectionist and Conservative in thought and deed.

Body Points:

Cthoth is an elegant green, who will - when fully grown - be somewhat of a beauty (at least in the eyes of other dragons). She denies this. She is slender, for a green, with narrow wings and a long neck and head, and a rather sinuous tail. She will be fast in the air, and her flights something to marvel at, but she will need to monitor her stamina in threadfall and under harsh conditions - and to remember to report her condition to her wingleader if she needs to drop out.

Why Me?

Cthoth and Casswin are a team - Cthoth will always be there to remind Casswin that, perhaps, Pern doesn't revolve around her... and that maybe she should look at what her role is in life and accept it (though no doubt that will always be a bone of contention), and Casswin to remind Cthoth that she deserves some praise and attention for what she does and does well.

Cthoth will always be blunt about her rider's flaws, and constantly seek to make her a 'better' person, to whatever standard the green might set... but at the same time, she'll always be there to give Casswin the attention she craves, and to fuss over her and worry over her and love her. Together, the two of them will be hard workers, ready to take on whatever load is necessary, and together... well, there's a world out there waiting for them.
