-The Story- In the realm of Faereen... There was once a god and a goddess, born of Father Time and Mother Flame when the universe was created. Fabled to be siblings, the two divine beings were given a planet with which to rule and watch over. The goddess was given dominion over a nation made of multiple islands, while the god was given an enormous continent to rule over.
The goddess' large island nation was a beautiful place of flowers and plants, of benevolent animals and spirits and of everlasting twilight. It was in that nation that the goddess first developed the art of magic and healing, an art which she gave to the mortals who lived in her nation. She taught her people how to care for and tend to the world around them, and there was peace in the nation of the goddess. The god's nation, however, was ruled over differently. The god loved combat and strife, and he quickly divided up the people of his nation and pitted them against one another. Some fought for supremacy against the others while others fought for the god's favor. Whatever the nation's reason, the mortals only served as sources of entertainment and amusement for the god.
The goddess disagreed with the god's treatment of the mortals, whom she had become quite attached to in her years of rule, and withdrew herself from her brother, longing instead to care for her people. But it was not long before the god grew annoyed with his sister and her love for the mortals, and he ordered the strongest of his nations to conquer the island nation.
The first wave of the god's army was wiped out completely, for though they had the strength and the power to fight, they had not counted for the island nation's magical abilities. The goddess' people had a bond with the land that they had nurtured and had learned how to give the forests the strength to fight back. The invaders were destroyed by the land itself. The god became furious, but decided to withdraw all of his armies and to wait for the perfect time to strike. He waited, and one day a volcano on one of the islands exploded and many of the forests were burned and destroyed. It was then that the god saw his perfect chance to strike. The god brought forth all of his armies to come and slaughter the goddess' people. The mages tried to fight but because many of the plants and forests were dead, they were left defenseless and without hope. The war was lost before the first drop of blood had been spilt. A treaty was drawn up, stating that the god was to rule over the goddess' nation. The god sent forth the mortal ruler of his nation, King Karash, to secure the throne of the goddess' mortal ruler.
The ruler of the goddess' nation, Queen Verdandi, sensed before the war began that something evil was going to occur. In an attempt to secure her bloodline and to make sure that there would be an heir, she gave her only daughter her most trusted friend, an ancient and powerful sorceress. The sorceress left the kingdom with the baby princess just as the war began to erupt, and fled into her tower, far away from Queen Verdandi's castle.
The sorceress watched in horror as Queen Verdandi and her entire court were massacred by the invading King Karash, and as he took his place at his bloody throne. She watched as her land was torn apart and as the goddess' people were beaten and enslaved, watched as the world that she knew collapsed around her. She longed to help her people but stayed in her tower - not out of duty to her queen and to her nation, but out of fear. And so the sorceress stayed hid away in her tower, with the baby princess and her young apprentice, unable to do anything but protect Queen Verdandi's baby, and wait. Twenty years later... Twenty years after the war, the world is a very different place than what it was. The goddess decided to set aside a few things to ensure that her people would be able to fight back when the chance for rebellion struck. The goddess took one of her nation's greatest warriors and sealed him in the form of a cat, to lie in wait for the time when he would be able to return and serve the princess.
And now a shaky peace has fallen over the world - the warriors of the god's nation still come and go as the natives of the islands live in never-ending fear. The forests have grown back but are no longer filled with magic and life. All that was pure in the islands is now gone or has been corrupted. Rebellion is in the hearts of all of the goddess' people, but many are still waiting for a person to lead them, not knowing that the last heir to the throne, now a grown woman, holds the key to revolution. Whether she likes it or not. The Introduction // The Story // The Setting // The Rules // The Cast // The Players

-The Setting- Ballad of the Queen is a fantasy roleplay that takes place in the realm of Faereen, home of the world of the god and the goddess. The main storyline is split between two locations – the continent of the god, where the king and his court reside, and the continent of the goddess, where the sorceress and her tower is. Eytharan The God’s Continent
A country built upon the principles of war, Eytharan is a testament to the combative nature of the god. But despite being a country built upon war, crime is surprising low in populations outside of the large, urban areas. The rates of starvation and poverty are also very low. The largest city on the continent is where the royal palace is, where the king and his royal court reside. --- Estora The Goddess’s Continent
A land of everlasting sunlight and beauty. The dwelling of some of the most beautiful sights ever beheld by man, Estora was considered by many to be a paradise on earth. But now that the land has felt the steely touch of war, much of the magic has left this place, and little remains other than a land of broken spirited people. Far away from any village or city there is the sorceress, where she and several others live. The Introduction // The Story // The Setting // The Rules // The Cast // The Players

-The Rules- Literacy. Literacy, at least to an extent, is an absolute must. You must be able to type full, proper sentences, which includes using proper punctuation, grammar, spelling, adding “quotation” marks while talking and italicizing when thinking. The occasional misspelling of a word will not get you kicked out of the roleplay though, so please do not worry about a typo here or there. It is suggested that you post a minimum of one to two paragraphs [two – five sentences to a paragraph] per post to make it easier for the other roleplayers. More paragraphs are always encouraged, of course!
Romance. Romance is more than allowed in this roleplay, and it is encouraged. But please adhere to the Gaia ToS, and keep it PG-13 while posting in the guild. If you want to go beyond that, feel free to take it to the private messages. And send them to me later…No, I’m totally kidding. But keep it clean, kids.
God-Moding. This is an offense that will not, and I repeat, will not be tolerated. This means manipulating another person’s character in your own post without the permission of the other roleplayer. This could also mean, but is in no way limited to making your character the most supremely powerful being the universe has ever had the delight to behold. Unless you are The God or The Goddess, your character can get hurt, your character can die, and your character cannot destroy tiny, miniscule sentry watchers that are virtually invisible to even the keenest of eyes with just your stupid-a** little sword, which has an enchantment that was from a sorceress that someone who is aligned with the king like yourself cannot come into contact with because that would be fraternization with the enemy. And again, unless you are The God or The Goddess, you can run out of magic. It does not matter if you have been around the block longer than most humans, you will run out of magic eventually, and you most certainly can die. *ahem*
Originality. This is something I cannot stress enough! Practice originality when you are creating your character, as well as roleplaying as them. It is fine to use a picture of a well-known anime character (although it would be nice if you used something that was not from a popular series), but please do not steal that entire character’s identity! Follow the outline of whatever character you’ve chosen, of course, but feel free to make that character your own and to make them unique! Do not make a character that we've all seen before, and do not stick to stereotypes - Be creative!
Acceptance. Please send your character’s profiles to me so that I can paste them on The Players section of the roleplay. You can make the title whatever you’d like, just please follow the skeleton that I have laid out for you at the bottom of The Cast section of the roleplay.
Democracy. The last, possibly the most important, factor of this roleplay – that I am not the goddess of this roleplay, that this is not ruled by one person, and that everything is open for discussion. If you have a suggestion, or if you simply do not like how things are turning out, please tell me! I am simply here to guide everyone in a general direction and to make sure that this whole process goes by smoothly. What is the fun in a roleplay if there is one person standing there telling you what you can and cannot do with your own character? So please, feel free to make suggestions. We would love to hear them.
Posting
When you are posting as your character, please follow the following example that I have placed for your viewing pleasure below. A coded version for roleplaying purposes can be found just below that.Little Miss Nexis
“Gee whiz, I sure am bored right now,” Megan said to herself, sipping lightly at a cup of Hawaiian Punch while listening to the pleasant sounds of crickets chirping outside her window. She looked at the clock and wondered vaguely why she was still up at three o’clock in the morning working on some stupid roleplay. That notion, however, was quickly replaced with another thought – I would totally kill for some barbeque chips right now. With that thought in mind, Megan rose out of her comfy computer chair and went to the kitchen to get her beloved barbeque chips.[imgright or left] Image URL Here![/imgright or left][color=insertcolorhere]
Text text text text text text text. Also, when you are ready to roleplay, I will give you a smaller version of the picture you have decided to use for your character. It will include the face of your character, of course, and possibly the shoulders and below that, depending if the picture allows it. This will eliminate huge pictures that take up your computer’s entire screen, and it will make it easier for people to see what you have written. -The Cast- Those Loyal To The King
The God –The God loves combat in all its forms, and from the very beginning of existance he has enjoyed warfare and battle. He enjoys the sight of lesser beings fighting, and he often pited and watched as his mortal subjects, or his 'play things' as he called them, fought against each other for his entertainment. After becoming annoyed with his sister, the Goddess, and her love for the mortals, he ordered the strongest of his armies to take over her island nation. Through the King, the mortal ruler of his continent, he manipulates what happens to the now conquered nations. He is not able to directly interfere with the lives of humans, though he loves to meddle in the plans of his sister and influence those who are on his side. He does not see any value in human life, and he is extremely violent. Played By: DarkwalkerThe King – The son of King Karash, conquerer of the goddess' islands. After Karash died of old age, the King was left the empire his father had created, expected to rule with the same amount of cruelness and savagry of his father. But this new King does not want to rule; he would much rather live a quiet life without fear and strife. He does not want to be the man who stands in the way of the goddess and her people when they will fight for their kingdom, but out of love for his nation and his people he will not abandon his position as king. Through his uneasiness, the King tries to look strong in front of his people. He knows that the moment he lets down his guard or shows the slightest hint of weakness, his role as King will be questioned. And in a country built upon blood and cold iron, weakness is the last thing a king would want shown. Played By: YamiIsMyLolipopThe Chief Assassin – The Cheif Assassin is the fore-most of the King's trained mercenaries. She doubles as the King's personal body guard, and because of the court's fear of an imminent attack on the King she is required to follow him wherever he goes. To avoid any rebels finding out her true identity as an assassin, the public has been informed that she is his mistress, giving her an appropriate reason to be near him at all times. Deadly in hand-to-hand combat, the Assassin is lightning fast with incredible reflexes and agility. She guards the King with her life, and she holds an incredible loyalty for the king that is unshakeable.Played By: Little Miss NexisThe High Mage – The Royal Mage to the King, the Mage was a very young man when the war began. In his youth he was arrogant and conceited, for he had been born with a surprising magical capability that few born of the God's continent possess. He felt that the magic he possessed gave him dominion over all, and when he first heard of a magic user known as the Sorceress with similar abilities his thoughts were initially those of dislike. But when he saw her for the first time, he knew that she must be his, and he persued her for many years. Each time he asked that she be his she turned him down, and for years he chased after her. Years of denial have made him obsessed with both her and his own power, turning him into an even more cruel and vicious man than he was. He is now bent on seeing the Sorceress - along with any one else who displeases him - suffer. Played By: DarkwalkerThe Spy Master – The King's Royal Spy Master. He was born years ago in Estora, and was one of the last apprentices that the Sorceress ever took on. He was a very young boy when the Sorceress took him in, and she taught him not only defensive and offensive magic, but she taught him how to be a stronger person. He grew very attached to the Sorceress, a woman whom he felt was above all of the pettiness of the rest of the world. His father, however, withdrew him from the Sorceress' training before he could learn all that he could and fled with him to the country of Eytharan just as the war broke out. When he grew older he joined the royal court and became the King's Spy Master, and though he is aligned to the King he still feels a connection with the Sorceress and his homeland of Estora. He feels that he was meant to serve her, and by extension, the Princess. He will not betray the King, but he secretly wants the Princess's side to win. He is a very indecisive fellow. Played By: Momo KonekoThose Loyal To The QueenThe Goddess – The Goddess is a devastatingly beautiful - but beneath her exterior, the Goddess is an incredibly proud, vain, and ultimately selfish creature. She does not hold human life in very high regard, and she treats them more as play things than as actual living beings. In fact, she does not seem to hold many things in regard except for her islands, which were so rudely taken over by her brother the God. She does not care how many human lives are lost, so long as her islands are reclaimed and are given back to her. She wants her islands back much like a child wants an amusing toy that has been taken away back. Played By: YamiIsMyLolipopThe Princess – The daughter of Queen Verdandi, and the true heir to the throne of Estora. She grew up, kept away from the outside world and it's cruelty, believing that the Sorceress was her real mother. She was raised in the Sorceress' tower by the Sorceress and her young Apprentice, who acted as both caretakers and educators to the young princess. She has the same innocence that the Sorceress seems to maintains, believing that all of the conflict and strife in the world will end well. She has not left the tower in her entire life, and because of this she often feels very isolated from the world. But despite this, the Sorceress and the Apprentice have been slowly grooming the Princess to one day become the perfect ruler of the True People of the Islands. Played By: Doki_AnkokuThe Warrior – The Warrior was the greatest warrior of his age and for the last twenty years has been at the side of the Goddess, stuck in the form of an ordinary black cat. He had been changed so that some day he may serve the Princess when the time came for her to take back her kingdom. He was a young man when the war began, and was an apprentice to the King of Estora, Queen Verdandi's husband. The king was the captain of the guards and had taken a liking to the young lad, taking him under his wing and teaching him everything he knew. But after the war ended and Queen Verdandi was killed, the Goddess decided to change him into a cat so that he may be of some use to her in the future. He hopes that he can serve the Princess, and he will do whatever it takes to ensure that she will return to her parent's throne. Played By: Little Miss NexisThe Sorceress – A mortal mage who was once said to have been one of the most powerful women in the world. She was a young woman when the war first began and was one of Queen Verdandi's dearest friends. It was she who the queen entrusted the life of her one and only daughter to. But when the time came for her to help her people fight back against the invading army of King Karash, the Sorceress backed away and fled out of her own fear. She ran back to her tower and watched as her beautiful homeland was taken over, as Queen Verdandi was brutally murdered and as the world as she knew it burned before her very eyes. She now lives in shame of her own foolish cowardice, and has set in motion a revolution, led by her Apprentice, so that the Princess will be returned to her throne and so that she may repent for her past spinelessness. Played By: Akuro_ChikamatsuThe Apprentice – The very last student that the Sorceress ever took on. Abandoned by her parents at an early age and taken in by the Sorceress, the Apprentice was only eight or nine years old when the war started, making not too much older than the Princess. She acted as the Princess' nursemaid when she was still a baby, and she helped make sure the girl knew there was more to the world then just hope and peace. After training under the Sorceress and learning all that there was to learn about magic, the Apprentice was taught that she would one day lead the revolution against the kingdom of Eytharan, and that it was her duty to both the Princess and to her nation to help regain Queen Verdandi's throne. She now acts as the leader of the revolution, aiding those in need and helping to build an army that will take back Estora and restore the Princess to her throne. She will fight for her country no matter what - even if doing so costs her her life.
