Padding is one of the essential parts of wearing a modern Kimono and/or Yukata. While we can debate about the need for padding today -- as compared to several decades ago -- I'd like to know what you guys do for body padding and why you use what you use. For example, I tried using two Velcro bandage wraps to even out my hip size after putting on my body shaper. Sadly, they slip so much that I've decided to invest in padding specifically designed for the waist and hips. I also wear a Kimono Bra to flatten my bust before putting on the body shaper and make my upper body smooth as possible. However, the area under my breasts to my stomach will need some flattening. I have found that Rakuten Stores provide wonderful items. I plan to buy waist/hip padding, under-bust padding, and a covering to make the front of my upper body smooth. So, do you use and/or currently use? The links below are what I will be investing in:

bra- My absolute favorite go-to is a swimsuit that is a little bit too small... it flattens my chest well and there's no areas that dig into me (like the elastic in a bra). The problems with the suit are that it can be a bit hot and it also makes going to the bathroom a bit more difficult. It helps a BIT with the waist as well. My neighbor, however, uses gauze. She just wraps it around a regular bra to smooth/flatten it out and secures with safety pins. I've tried this but it is hard to wrap, imo. If I MUST use a regular bra, I use an ACE bandage over it.
I also have a sports bra, again- slightly too small (cup size, not band size,) that flattens pretty well. I was stupid and left it at home though. crying
So my bottom line is 'whatever works for you' - I'm not sure there's a great deal of merit to spending a lot on a Wa-bra as opposed to trying on a lot of sports bras and finding one that works.
waist- Honestly even with very large hips I've not had a great deal of problems with kimono... I just wrap my obi a little bit higher. In the past, I've used skin-toned ACE bandages over a folded hand towel (meaning my stomach is exposed but my sides and back are covered). It makes me very hot and I'm not particularly convinced it made me more "shapely." When my neighbor dressed me she avoided it altogether, so it's not a huge issue.

I use a 5L Kimono Bra, mostly because I'm so top-heavy that I don't fit into sports bras. It does a great job at keeping the girls down. My major issue is the hips / waist being smooth. Again, the bandages keep slipping when I have to adjust my Yukata, so I've pretty much given up on it. The waist / hip adjuster I posted the link to looks way more stable.

You might try wearing a thin undershirt below the bandages to give it something to "grip." But as I mentioned, I kind of like the bathing-suit because it smoothes out everything and doesn't pinch and slide.
If your chest is large, Moony can help.
Keep in mind though, the more gadgets and doohickeys you add, the more confining your kimono will feel.

I already have few layers -- Kimono bra, body shaper, wrap around skirt with a top, etc. Moving around in them isn't a burden. I'm trying to find a 3X camisole because I bought one too small. They probably won't be out until summer, so I'll have to make do. I will say that when I get all my padding, I should be pretty much complete. I bought an Iromuji a few days ago, so then I'll have time to look for zori, tabi socks, a Fukuro Obi, etc.

My current routine that I think gives me the best combo of comfort and smoothness is a too-small sports bra, then an elastic torso bandage up over my bust, and then one of those camisoles that have a stretchy built-in bra.
My biggest problem with kimono bras is that the dimension of my underbust is very small compared to the dimension of my mid-bust.

My biggest problem with kimono bras is that the dimension of my underbust is very small compared to the dimension of my mid-bust. Ouch. I've found that my Kimono Bra does wonders. I will probably remain top-heavy for the rest of my life, so it doesn't look like I'll be getting rid of the bra soon. I have more to worry about if the listed padding is too small for me. I'll have to add more length to the ties, so that shouldn't be too hard. I may just skip the front smoother if I can find a 3X Camisole. The shirts to go with the wrap-around skirts won't fit over my guy like regular 3X shirts do.
