Ah, now wasn't THIS a pickle? He didn't realize he'd been so careless, up until a glance into his kitchen revealed that he had indeed forgotten to pick up groceries this week. He was rather surprised that neither Amelia nor Annabelle had reminded him, but they'd been doing their own things, of course. So, it was only to gather the money he'd need, and then head out onto the town. Looking up and down the streets, Amerald couldn't help but smile to himself. This place was actually rather nice, and to know that his children were out and about here somewhere. Though….he was always looking for new parents for his babies.

Sighing softly, he gazed about, gently picking item after item that he knew they usually had, but were currently without. After all, it was a good father's duty to provide for himself, and his children. The silver haired man's eyes caught something that jolted him out of his train of thought. Something rather stunning that made him think of both his daughters. Smiling, he turned the small, handmade, glass globe in his hands, the swirling dark purple and gorgeous blue entrancing him, drawing his focus away from anything else.

Well….wasn't this an interesting start to the day?

The market lay open in front of him, like a display, maybe a snapshot of human life. People bustled about their lives, each pointedly ignorant of all else but all the same silently aware. Geraldt was enjoying the thought of the paradox, really deriving far too much pleasure from his own dramatic and bloated vision of things, when a thought struck him. Why was he analyzing these people? What were they doing that differed so greatly from his own life? He forgot, from time to time, that he was a part of life just like every other person, a specimen in his own right.

Yes, there came times when even he found his detached, musing personality grating.

Not so different at all. The lightest of breezes, with just the faintest hint of spring upon it, played with the tail of his jacket as he plodded along the main street, toward the shops and ruckus of the market. Grocery shopping never WAS a field he found himself particularly well-suited for. Forget eating right, the many different shops all selling what seemed like the same thing to him put him off, and heading into town was always an ordeal. He must have been quite the site, the green professor all dressed in black, silent as he tread into town, face obviously deeply focused on whatever clearing his mind had become lost in.

From somewhere deep inside him there came a distant sound, a snippet of some song long past. Not much, but he remembered some of his life before he'd come to these lands, and he hummed a bar to himself. “Last night, I had a dream about you...” He paused in his low chant of the lyrics, concentrating hard on what came next, “In this dream, I'm dancing right beside you...” He gave up, nothing more came. All the same, it filled him with a great joy, the image it put in his head, and almost as soon as the joy came it was replaced, harshly, with a deep pang, like hunger but higher in his chest. These feelings came, but it was an absolute horrid time to be having a spell. He'd just put it out of his mind until he got home, maybe then he could puzzle out what it was.

As the main street started to shift into the bazaar of shops and people, Geraldt glanced up. A face he instantly recognized, or at least thought he did, jumped out of the crowd. Amerald, he was. Gazing at something with the cast of fascination laying over his eyes. Maybe Geraldt would try this whole “social” aspect of life that people seemed to enjoy, and have a conversation for once. When he was close enough, Geraldt called out, “'Hoy, Amerald! I haven't seen you in a spell!”

What he hadn't expected to hear was a familiar voice, something that brought up memories of the past as he was standing right before the fish stand, picking up a few for his lovely girls. Blinking his eyes, the young scientist turned his head to see who might have spoken his name, when his gaze caught the familiar sight of an old friend, "Surely my eyes deceive me!" He said, grin fluttering onto his face, "GERALDT! A spell it has been indeed! I have not seen you in such a time! Nor did I expect to see you HERE of all places. What DOES bring you here?"

Shifting the basket on his arm, just standing here with Geraldt brought back many fond memories. Memories of a man very similar to himself in ambition and drive, and of times much more....simple. Nowadays, he had to take care of his new family, and keep tabs on the children he'd made for others. What a task, but a worth while one. He enjoyed knowing that life he created was out there, and wandering about the city. IT made his heart soar.

There was indeed a question as to why Geraldt was here.....didn't he live elsewhere?

The booming call that returned to him left no doubt in his mind: This was most certainly Amerald, his old colleague and friend, depending upon how you looked at it, and a fellow student of the finer points of history. The warmth of the response brought a smile to Gerald's face, and banished any previous thoughts of loneliness he'd been having. He decided yes, they'd definitely been friends back at the university, and it was always nice seeing an old friend, wasn't it? Unfamiliar sensation, but most certainly pleasant, something he could most definitely get used to.

As he made his way across the market to Amerald, he was hit with a waft of fishy odor that he knew all too well from his days back as a deckhand for a fisher in Korr. Fish was a scent that you never really got used to, for once you built up a tolerance to what would surely tug on the gag reflex of most, you were sick of the damned things. He'd never eat another fish for the rest of his life, not if it was out of a high-end restaurant and on the house, not even if his mortal well-being depended upon it. Still, not even the smell of raw fish hitting him would deter him from his old friend.

Closing the gap, he held out his hand, noting the precarious way that Amerald gripped at his basket and taking care to present the hand that would not require him to shift around too much. “No, your eyes do you true.” He grinned, not risking himself to crack a joke. “What a wonderful thing it is to see you here again! Luck must have wanted us to meet here. I'm in town here for a little bit of further education. There's a book here that I can't find anywhere else. I had no idea you lived here, though!”

The fishy odor didn't even bother Amerald all that much. He'd been around the scent for so long now, that he didn't mind any longer. As Geraldt made his way over to him, he smiled brightly, unable to help himself as the other began to speak. So Geraldt was in town for education. That made sense. At least to Amerald it did, since he remembered Geraldt being that sort. Smiling his ever friendly smile, he was honestly delighted to see his old colleague! It was brilliant, it truly was. "Of course I live here old friend! I do some….research here and have a small family!" Taking said offered hand, he shook it vigorously. It had been far too long, after all.

"It's been so long. It's nice to see you in the city. Maybe you'd like to come over for dinner tomorrow or something?" Tonight, he needed to play one of his little games, and thinking about it, Geraldt would make a brilliant father to one of his little Hraapea! Which feather, however...Reaching into a pocket, making it seem casual, his fingers brushed what he realized to be the feather of the ring necked pheasant. How stunningly perfect~.

Geraldt's warm chuckle preceded any words. "Good strong handshake, now THAT'S the Amerald I remember." It was true, Amerald had the unique ability to shake hands like he meant it. The people in these lands seemed so foreign to the concept, and withered at his strong grip rather than meet it with their own. What a joy to see an old friend, indeed.

"YOU? A family man?! Gods, what happened?" He nudged at Amerald playfully. He'd never taken him for a father, but he realized the qualities were all there. Studious, intelligent, an incredibly level head and an openness to all concepts and schools of thought would make for brilliant children, unhampered by the overbearing father that he himself had been victim to. He was happy for his friend, and perhaps even a bit jealous.

He watched the hand snake into Amerald's pocket, and the disconnected thought that rose up was
(You're not going to shoot me, are you?)
but that didn't make any sense, it was nonsense. They didn't have guns here, and the memory of the things were fading from his memory altogether. Flashes of memory, like cards that come to the top of a shuffled deck and disappear again. Cards that are slowly falling away into darkness. These thoughts floated by in silence, and he watched to see what became of the adventure into Amerald's pocket.

“You sound surprised?” Amerald chuckled; he would never have seen himself being a father to not only one, but two wonderful daughters. “Well you could say life happened, I’m just quite happy that they’re both in my life.” Amelia and Annabelle filled his filled and seemed to complete it perfectly; he would never have done anything different. Geraldt would enjoy fatherhood just as much as he was right now, he made the perfect candidate. Gently petting the feather a few more times, Ameralds hand slipped out of his pocket to rest by his side. “You know, you could meet them if you come over for dinner! I’m sure my daughters would love meeting one of their dads old friends, I’m sure they’d love to hear stories about it too.” Another light chuckle, “What about you? No woman by your side or children running around?” While Amerald should have been interested in his answer, and he would have been if he still wasn’t thinking about giving Geraldt a feather. Maybe it would make his old friend stay in Nuan more, Amerald would certainly enjoy the company!

(( Sorry for the shortness, I have no idea what their relationship was like before so x.x ))

The smile departed rapidly from Geraldt's face, and the twinkle that his eyes had just begun to adopt winked out not long after. His hands hung weakly at his sides; the way the fingertips curled in and the knuckles pointed outward, just slightly, made them look deadened and unused. “No,” he mumbled, lips moving very little, “No women, no children...”

His voice trailed off, but his thoughts carried on, bearing his mind away again. Though the idea of fatherhood did indeed appeal to him, sometimes a great deal, sometimes just a little, he didn't know how he'd handle it once he held the baby in his arms. There was a terrible feeling of disconnection buried deep in the back of Geraldt's mind, of otherness. Something about him was terribly foreign to this place, something in his very nature, and when he looked too close at those he kept around him, it grated against him like screaming metal. The something was remote, but it's the tiny differences that make things uncanny, that makes them impossible to tolerate. Though he was loath to embrace the angst of years gone, Geraldt felt different.

Even as the ocean of his thoughts threatened to drown him, there was that voice, that gained strength every day, telling him to snap the hell out of it, he had just been invited to dinner by his old friend and the man was waiting for a response while he drooled on himself, musing over juvenile matters that he'd long since gotten past. He came crashing back down to the proverbial Earth so fast he was afraid his boots would click on the road.

All at once he was animated again, grinning again, and his eyes shone. “Dinner, then? I'd love to!” It was true, he couldn't help but wonder what sort of family Amerald could POSSIBLY have, and, more importantly, what his woman looked like. The idea of Amerald playing daddy, with not just one daughter but two, was simply surreal. There had to be some fiercely grounded girly behind THAT. He'd come to giggle at even having the thought later, once he got the far more interesting truth. “You'll have to lead the way, my friend!”

((heeee, don't worry about it. They were old college buddies, both fascinated and passionate in regards to the same field, that of ancient history.))

When Amerald noticed the change in his friends demeanour, he wished he hadn't brought up the subject of woman and children; it was obviously a very sensitive chapter of Geraldt's life. Though Amerald himself didn't have a wife, it had never really bothered him that much. This occurrence was brought on by the fact that he had Amelia and Annabelle early in his life, Amerald couldn't tell if he would of had the same reaction as Geraldt if he didn't have his daughters.

Giving Geraldt a feather seemed like an even better idea now, watching his old friend wallow in a pool of unhappiness was a little hard to watch. Considering Amerald had been over joyed about the fact that Geraldt had asked him about his family, he decided to cool down a bit. It would be hard to hold his excitement at dinner time when he would offer Geraldt something that he seemed to be dreaming of, and giving life to another Hraapea was just as electrifying.

As soon as the other's expression had returned to a more pleasant tone, Amerald clapped him on the shoulder. “I'm glad you can join us!” If Geraldt had said no, he would have told him a little white lie about having found one of the best discoveries and he just had to show him. “Come on, it's just this way.” Amerald started heading towards one of the markets exits, as the sun was going down and families settled in for dinner, the streets were starting to get less crowded. Once they got into the else busy streets, Amerald headed for his home and up the steps. There he paused however, should he tell Geraldt now what he had done? Explain so he wouldn't be overwhelmed by what he would see when his daughters came to the door.

Shaking his head he opened the door and let Geraldt in first then closed it behind him. “Welcome to my humble home, store and workplace,” than a little louder. “Girls I'm home!” He took off his jacket and hung it on one of the hooks on the wall, then turned to see Annabelle pausing in the living room as she inspected the visitor, Amelia was right behind her. “Geraldt these are my daughters, Annabelle and Amelia.”

As they walked through the city streets, filled with bustling people, Geraldt felt much more like himself. The noise and thrumming of all the people was almost comforting, making him feel like there had been no outburst of thought back in the street. It would weigh heavy on him later, when he was alone and lying awake with all the silly problems he had through the day. For now, though, he contented himself with following Amerald, up and down hills, around street corners, enjoying the thought of being a guest in his old friend's house.

When they reached Amerald's home, the man seemed like he wanted to turn, to say something. Before Geraldt could speak up, ask if they were going in, or if Amerald was embarrassed to bring a man as handsome as himself home with a grin, the man turned and stepped inside. Geraldt followed him up the front steps, boots clicking as they tapped against the stone of the landing. On the landing, he took two deep breaths, and once Amerald called his greetings in to who Geraldt assumed were his daughter, he ducked in through the door after Amerald.

As a child, entering other peoples' homes had always made him nervous. Something about meeting so many new people all at once, family and pets and friends alike, filled him with a sort of anxiety that made a positive first impression that much more difficult. That same old feeling of apprehension washed through him as he stood in the doorway of his colleague's home, eyes adjusting to the slight dimness compared to the sunlight out on the street. It quickly washed away, however, when he laid eyes upon Amerald's two daughters.

There were two of them, both gorgeous. The girl who stood in front regarded him with dark eyes that matched her complexion, and behind her stood a much brighter beauty, like something plucked down from among the cloudy skies and the castles that sat atop them. Geraldt's eyes sparkled as he looked between them, not staring at the wings, but rather taking them in with the rest of the two. He stepped forward, taking Annabelle's hand in his own, raising it to his lips to kiss it softly, smiling. He let the hand fall and did the same to her sister behind her, the girl Amelia. “A pleasure to meet you, girls. I'm an old colleague of your father's. My name is Geraldt.”

He cast a glance at his friend, adding, “You didn't tell me your daughters were actual angels, my friend!”

He smiled, the proud smile of a father who knew just what gems his children were. Looking side by side at both Annabelle and Amelia, he watched as Amelia gave Geraldt a sunny smile, "It is nice to meet you, Mister Geraldt!" Annabelle echoed the sentiment, this making the man smile. They were such good girls, his beloved ones. Glancing back to the other, he studied the look on his face, happy to see that he likely had indeed just made the right choice in the man to whom he'd give a feather. With the reverence that he showed the two, he would show the same love to his own Hraapea.

"They are actually not angels, old friend. Annabelle and Amelia are actually my children in a way. They have my DNA...and that of a bird. They are..." He smiled as they left the room, making their way to the kitchen, where likely dinner had been started, "my most precious creations." Those eyes turned serious, and he gazed over at his once-colleague, "And it's part of the reason I asked you here. I'm trying to understand more about these children. I've decided to call them Hraapea....and I would like your assistance...in the form of DNA to combine with this." Gently, he extracted the extravagant feather from his pocket, holding it up to show the man.

Hopefully....The other would approve....

As the girls left the room, the smile faded from Geraldt's face but remained in the man's slate eyes, dancing like the blazing blue heart of a lick of flame. He turned them upon Amerald, appraising his old friend. The man was smiling, full of himself from his daughters' perfection and justified in doing so. Just watching them conduct themselves, the grace and effortless beauty they showed as they greeted him in turn and then made themselves scarce, impressed Geraldt a great deal. Was it the careful work of the father, or was it just ingrained in their genetics?

No sooner had he begun pondering the question of whether good girls were born or raised, Amerald began to speak, quickly and confidentially, in a low voice that Geraldt realized was intended to hide the words from his daughters. When he finished, Geraldt blinked and shook his head, unsure of whether to laugh or reel. “My friend, you just told me a great deal all at once,” he said, though Amerald really hadn't said that much at all. It was just the sheer gravitas of the explanation. Dinner with a side of genetic modification, it all just seemed so surreal to Geraldt.

“I think I see what you're saying, though,” Geraldt added, after a pause. “And if I understand correctly, then I would be very pleased to assist you in this project of yours.” For his understanding was that Amerald would make him a father, and this appealed to him a great deal. Offered to banish the loneliness that had been settling in so deep as of late. A little child to raise and be held accountable for whenever said child breaks something. Though, if Geraldt's turned out anywhere near similar to Amerald's own, he doubted that'd be an issue.

“One question, though... the DNA. You're not going to harvest my organs for it, are you?”
